Great video. When Joe went back to playing his Mark VI after the Supreme, it was very apparent how much more density and color is present in the Mark VI. In comparison, the Supreme sounds just like another modern horn that lacks the core and complexity which makes the Mark VI so desireable.

Good video. I would've liked to have heard the guys play for longer. That said I could clearly hear differences which isn't always the case for me on these videos. The Supreme sounded brighter and more 'digital' to me. I think for many of us the way the horn 'feels' and responds is a big factor and this can't come across by watching others on a video.

There's a difference of focus and maybe some volume, but the SBA is also a more focused and quieter horn than a VI

I bought a Signature Selmer tenor and I have to say it is way better than any vintage horn in every way- I also play a 1963 Mark VI that is way above average compared to other VIs, perfect intonation and the Signature still wins, I won`t get rid of my VI but my point is...these new Selmer Tenors are fantastic in every way, Selmer finally got rid of the old line of saxophones that kept them in the middle of the pack for years, the Supreme and signature tenors put Selmer where they should be.

Thanks for doing this amazing comparison! It may simply be the better/ wrong mouthpiece pairing, but man, I'm listening on very good professional JBL studio monitors and that TM horn sounded much fuller and more complex than the Supreme. The Supreme had less of everything with your mpc/ reed/ ligature. Clay's VI sounded more compact and louder than the Supreme, and Joe's own sax sounded much more complex and sweeter than the Supreme. Joe was the most stark contrast where his tenor setup sounded HUGE, and his mpc setup on the Supreme sounded thin and puny.

Very interesting re tenon ring position. Will have to experiment with my Supreme alto. Definitely seemed to warm up and make the sound seem more free blowing when lined up with the notch. I’ve been playing it unaligned for the past 18 months, and it has a certain resistance in that position.

How does the neck angle compare to the Mark VI or say the Yamaha Custom Z2? The Yamaha has a lot less bend vs Mark VI

Nobody is commenting on the choice of mouthpieces being used. But no matter how it plays, I wouldn’t spend $11,000 for it when I have a 61,000 Mk6. It probably plays like a good Yamaha.

MOUTHPIECES! Vandoren Jumbo T97...too bad they don't make them anymore. Here's mine on 64 MkIV closet queen I scored in 2017. My acidic spray has it alredy looking like my last 62 Mk IV I played for 40 solid years. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f5Z-g9Npq9e0k6c.html

I have played the Supreme and it is far better than the mark vi especially after you allow yourself to get used to it. The only thing I didn’t like is the front F is a Spatula and I prefer the front pearl but it’s not really a big deal. Please stop with the nonsense about the different finishes it is purely psychosomatic plating is less then the thickness of a sheet of paper. If you like Silver Plating then get it but it won’t be any different in reality when it comes to the sound than any other finish offered.

The Price is still less than a “like New” condition Mark VI and the Mark VI is not a rare horn they made them for a very long long time.

I agree, I have the Signature tenor and I have put my fantastic Mark VI 1963 vintage in its case, the Signature is so easy to play and has that Selmer sound that was missing in the other Selmer horns.

I am amused at all the hate Selmers is getting for the Supreme. These people are willing to pay even more han $10k for a horn that doesn't play well.😆

I see the same thing, I think Mark VI lovers just can`t accept that Selmer made new horns that are miles better than the old VIs.

my $ 700 dollar 1956 buffet dynaction tenor totally outclasses the supremes in sound and for a 56 horn the action is slick and easy and i have no need for any selmer at all
