Scott 'Dolf' Hoying, if you watch him, he is gripping the back of the chairs. He uses his hands so much when he sings, and they wanted this video to show little motion so he had to grip the chairs to keep from using his hands. The emotions that they convey just screams 'break up' I love this one and the way you two reacted to it! and BTW: Kevin's Cello is named Beyoncé

Radioactive is the song you were talking about with Lindsey Stirling. BUT they also collabed with her on their brand new Christmas album for a crazy version of Over The River. You just wouldn't expect that to be a beautiful song and yet here we are. I also like Mitch's beard. Alas, some years ago, Kirstin said in an interview that she would also like its return and Mitch wasn't having it... he snarked that she just liked Masc Mitch 🤪 Echoing the earlier commentors in requesting a reaction to The Prayer. They released the video two days ago and it NEEDS more attention. The original was Celine Dion and the Italian opera singer, Andrea Bocelli. They killed it. And people don't seem to be having trouble getting it blocked * knock on wood * I'm also not much of a fan of Christmas music... but I got Evergreen and have been listening to it obsessively already 😑

Yes, you have to check out more PTX/Kevin stuff that includes his celloboxing! Their cover of Imagine Dragon’s “Radioactive” with Lindsey Sterling is badass. And their cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” and Lady Gaga’s & Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow” also have similar vibes to this song (both feature a lot of celloboxing and background vocals that mimic stringed instruments). Also check out Kevin’s videos for “Stay With Me” and “Down”. He uses lots of looping to build up the songs, and the man’s many, many talents will blow your mind. 🤯 I basically squealed when you said you would dedicate a week to PTX Christmas music. 😂 I associate the two so much that “Christmas” and “PTX” are basically synonyms in my mind. LOL. They just released “The Prayer,” and it’s an absolute must! Some of my other top suggestions would be the live version of “Hallelujah” from their TV Christmas special, the live version of “Silent Night” that they recorded on a whim in the hallway of a cathedral in Europe (you will swear that a choir of angels is singing you a lullaby), “Mary, Did You Know,” “The First Noel” (that one really shows off Avi’s range), “O Come All Ye Faithful” (has a really cool African/tribal vibe to it - sounds like you would imagine “A Very Lion King Christmas” would sound like 😂), “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” (Matt shows off a fun, theatrical side in that one), “Thank You” (an original that Scott and his boyfriend wrote reflecting on everything that happened in 2020), and “Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Gone.” Then there’s also “Coldest Winter,” “Little Drummer Boy,” the Grammy-winning “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy,” etc. Maybe just dedicate a month? 🤷‍♀️😂

Gentlemen, welcome to celloboxing! Your reactions are truly entertaining and while your comments are musically spot on, watching your friendship is just as entertaining. Thanks for sharing it with us. This continues to be one of my favorites of Pentatonix for several reasons. It was the first time I heard Kevin and his cello (see suggestions below from the others for more). It is indeed one of the most solemn/stoic and yet powerful covers they've done. I believe I heard that they were supposed to minimize their posture and hand movements as if they were painted in a framed portrait. It adds to the emotional angst of the song and lyrics. But I can only imagine how hard that was for them when filming and if you rewatch it, you see occasional movement but it is very minimal. Kevin is the only one who really moves much and it's because you can't play a cello without it. One of my favorite parts is when the cello is silent and Scott starts, then Avi joins, then Mitch, then Kirstie, then the cello reenters and it builds. Thanks again for another delightful reaction.

For more, "I can't believe there are no musical instrument moments. . .. " Check out: "Happy Now" (Original) and "Be My Eyes" (original) and just a FUN one you have to watch that is pretty cool, too (what stuff of theirs ISN'T?) is "Come Along" (It's a cover of a British artist, I believe - could be wrong on the artist.)

If you haven't checked out any of Avi's solo stuff, Change on the Rise is a really awesome song where he does all of the parts in it.

Kevin was first discovered by PTX when he had a viral video of him "celloboxing" in college (he was at Yale ... pre-Med). In classical music, you either pluck the strings of your string instrument or bow them (bow pronounced like the thing you tie with ribbon, not like the whole-body gesture you give during your curtain call). That guy with the blond hair is Scott Hoying - he had a fresh new bleach job just before this was filmed (it shows up in one of their travelog video, which are a lot of fun). "Masc Mitch" makes occasional appearances - Mitchy likes to mix it up. In the new drop, The Prayer, he's doing a variant of it, slyly sent up by both his angelic high vocals and the emerald green silk blouse he's wearing under the big winter overcoat. Avi was everyone's favorite for an emotional, sensitive performance. Someone has mentioned that Kirstin had an eye infection, but also it's a sad song, for heaven's sake, and her performance near the end is cries of pain. Really, really great. ETA: classical string instruments, highest to lowest: violin (fiddle), viola, cello ("violincello"), bass ("bass viol").

As I remember Wyoming used to have only 2 seasons winter and the 4th of July, but ever since 1988 it snowed on the 4th of July. Which threw everybody into a tizzy so they came to with a compromise they now have 4 seasons just like everybody else just we call them different now Wyoming's seasons are, Early winter, mid-winter, late winter and next winter (LOL that should be good enough to let you know where I used to live but by 50 it was just too damn cold so's I just had to ramble on)

Plucking to bowing. Yes violin truly is a fiddle. Difference is, violin is orchestral music, fiddle is country, bluegrass, ho down music.
