I am not a girl, I am a man, but Jinhao is very different from Sailor... The nib is the same that you could find in older models, it is only cased in a new body. They have very nice colors & you can swap parts. You can also buy 10 Jinhaos & you're still away from the price of a single sailor. My advice: use the pen, do not let it inked for long with no use or the ink will dry inside the feed.

I prefer a hefty pen but was pleasantly surprised by these. I like that I can mix and match the colors. The cap and barrel finials can be switched as well as the barrel section. It is fun changing them up. I only have 2 right now but plan on getting more. I also am interested in trying other nibs in them like I have in my x750’s

I have 2 Sailors and really like them. I’m glad because they are expensive! I’m always drooling over the colours that Sailor comes out with but costs too much for me. So I bought a whole bunch (like 20) different coloured Jinhao 82 pens and mixed and match finials, barrels, caps, etc. I really like how they all write. I have mostly F nibs but got a few EF and M. Just fun to write with…and all the great colour combos. If they break or get lost…no worries about it. I just recently got some of their sparkly ones…reminds me of the green blue nebula or lucky charm…which I dreamed of getting but never could. Now I sort of have it! 🎉

I got one in the peacock blue and its translucent and has shimmer its so beautiful more fancy than any of the sailors in my personal opinion ;)

I got the Ivory one and the blue one and at the time it was BOGO for $12. I was wondering if you could do a video on some of the different ways to fix a nib before you give up on it 😊I enjoy these pens

Gosh, I have such mixed feelings. I’m so anti “dupe” or fake or copy but for a beginner, this is nice and not everyone can spend the money on a high end pen.

Sailor, Pilot, Platinum & others manufacture the same pen under different names --1911, 78g, ....& nobody complains or say they're ripping each other

Good way to introduce oneself to fountain pens. I'm always conflicted with knock-off pens. The gold nibs of the Sailor 14k (Pro Gear Slim) and the 21k (Pro Gear), to me would make a difference to me when using Sailor inks. Good thing you know how to tune your nibs. Thanks for sharing.

Love the review as ever! I have several 82s, and keep getting more to give away to people who might like to know more about fountain pens. Convenient size. Totally reliable nib, feed, and converter. Fun color options. Far cheaper than what fountain pen curious friends might find in certain brick and mortars. These are my pigmented ink pens. Work fine, no failures yet. What's not to love? Sailors? Love them! If the matter is writing with a good pen with a sufficient line, Jinhao all the way. If we are looking for our signature pens . . . if we have to ask how much they cost, then get a perfectly fine pen, not a grail pen.

RE concerns about leaking and other durability issues: At under $10? Let's just be careful! Any fine pen is worth taking care of!

I have a PGS and it has not written well since day 1. I’m hoping to take it to a pen show and get it fixed. Just bought a few Jinhaos to try out. I love the look of Sailors but the price and bad experiences with the two gold nibs I own left me hesitant to buy more.

Nice review. I have four Jinhao 82 dual-colored in a Medium nib and one light green in a F nib. I've used one of each nib type and they have worked perfectly for me out of the box (padded bag, actually). I've heard they can be inconsistent in flow though so I don't know how my other untried Mediums will work. Of course the steel nib is completely different than the gold nib on my Sailor PGSs. You can't compare the nibs, it'a like oranges and apples. But for an inexpensive starter pen with a steel nib, I think they work great. I have a small hand so I prefer pens in this size range.

I really do think these pens are excellent starter fountain pens and maybe even a permanent fountain pen if one does not want to spend much. I have the light green that kind of looks Tiff Blue. In one of these pens I have a shimmer ink that's been sitting there for a couple of months and it worked fine when I just tried it. I have some grail fountain pens but these I do not mind bringing anywhere because of the cost. Thank you for sharing.

Awesome. Yes I forgot to mention that they can be used for those special inks as well, which you may not want to put in your more delicate fountain pens. It’s good to hear that it is working well.

I bought the same set and immediately swapped all the parts.. so now they’re sort of oddly color-blocked. They write really well but needed some flow help at the beginning.

Yes I have noticed that with the two I mentioned in the video. I think separating the tines a bit really help.

Yep, two of my three needed widening, so I used Inkquiring Minds “seven strokes to inky happiness” method, which worked great. I’m glad you’re enjoying them!

Got one of the newer Turquoise sparkle translucent ones at $1.35 shipped! Really the price was a novelty factor, but it is quite amazing how low they can go for.

I bought a transparent pink right after it came out. Reviews were positive in size, shape, and overall experience to that of a Sailor PGS so I had to order one. Sailor PGS pens are so cute but when my jInhao 82 arrived my suspicion was confirmed. These pens are too small for my hands. I was able to use the converter that came with it in my Benu Euphoria but I have no plans for the shell. It's adorable and in perfect condition (never used) so I don't want to throw it out, especially since I know these pens can be mixed and matched - grip sections, bodies, caps. If you or someone you know is interested in an 82 transparent pink body, send them my way!

Good to know! Sorry the size didn’t work out for you. When you compare the Benu Euphoria to the jinhao 82 there is a significant size difference so I can see how they may not work for you. 😞 but I’m sure you may be able to find a new home for it

I recently bought the Jinhao Centennial 100, in the mutlicolor style. It’s a little bit big, but it write very smooth. I might have to try these. Do they feel bigger in width (handgrip) compared to the Sailor Pro Gear or the SPGS versions?

Great ink choices… I have just become so enamored with Sailor’s Shikiori line of inks… And JetPens has a great lineup….Yonaga is my latest fav! And with Nike Volt, Lamborghini Mantis Green, and Porsche’s Weissach (i.e. Acid green) being my signature shade(s) of green… loving that 370… I have to get… I was curious to how does the actual “feel” of the resins feel compared to the Sailor’s… I find that this can be a deal maker/-breaker for me. I have migrated away from pens of a certain price point due to cracking issues or that the materials just feel what the purchase price dictates…. Great review/comparison.

The various copies from the likes of Jinhao and MaJohn/Moonman can be a great way to see if you like the feel in the hand of pens like the Sailors, just remember the writing experience isn't exactly the same. For the writing experience, they can be good, but nib quality control can be hit or miss. I know with my Jinhao 80, the one worked great, another was decent but dry, the third would dry out in under an hour of no use.
