I wasn’t mad at Damelza. I love her and Ross, but after Ross was with Elizabeth it was fair game.

100% agreed! Ross always took Demelza for granted, amoung many other things. I've had a very similar relationship like what Ross and Demelza had, so much so that I could very well understand Demelza. She should have left Ross, she will always be in Elizabeth's shadow, trust me. Hugh and Demelza were definitely who I was hoping for, being 2nd best is never a great feeling..

He played her and the game was never about his love for her it was about taking something that was never his. When he sent that last letter it wasn’t about love it was about rubbing Ross’s nose in his escapade and wanted to do it again to make the matters worse. Why didn’t she ever respond? Why did she ask Ross for permission to see him after? I hope this doesn’t happen to you…

I think Ross did love Elizabeth once, but it became lust and obsession. Elizabeth used her beauty to her advantage in gaining fortune and climbing the social status quo. She would have never been a good fit as a wife to Ross. She would have been miserable. Demelza is the woman for Ross, he does love her but not in the way Demelza deserves to be loved.

@@annieoakley153 Elizabeth did not climb socially because she was at par with the other gentry folks. She already had the required social status as being part of the gentry and her family had been for centuries which George aspired to be. However, in the UK a higher social status didn't always mean having more money because some merchants or tradespeople got wealthier than some of the gentry as time passed.

Well, It`s seems some people think Demelza will be happier with Hugh, but Hugh never offered nothing, he only wanted “ a bit the love Demelza felt for Ross“, nothing more. Demelza never thought of leaving Ross, Nampara and their children.

Hugh is ill. But I think he really was in love with Demelza, and if it would be possible, they would be together, because she is in love with him too. She can love Ross, but also Hugh....maybe if Hugh could give Her more than his love ( house, a new life)...they would be together...in the few moments they stayed together, Hugh loved her so much.....and in real life, they do a beautiful couple!!!

You don't think Hugh picked up on the fact that Ross is an older man, that he isn't paying attention to his wife, that Demelza was feeling a bit neglected? He was nothing but an opportunist. He caught Demelza a little off guard. I think Demelza regretted letting it go as far as it did. What I don't understand is Demelza uncontrollable sobbing at his death. Anyone? I couldn't watch that.

Well she wasn’t sobbing because she was in love with him she was sobbing cuz they were friends and he was probably the first person who could walk into a room and not see her as second place to elizebeth and that must have felt really good for her because even Ross can’t do that. And I do think Hough really loved her to an extent

I think Hugh did have land and he gave them to her after his death. I don’t think Demelza was in love with him, he just made her feel special when although she was only ever in love with Ross, Ross always made her feel second place to elizebeth. So did most people die to her standing Ross is good in a lot of aspects of the show but a good husband is not one of them. He should have married Elizebeth when he had the chance and given demelza land so she wouldn’t be homeless. Also romantically Hugh’s probably better for her even though she doesn’t love him. Although I think the affair made Ross change and she ant her more in a way it didn’t change him as much as he should either love her more than anyone else or give her up When the love of your life is free .

He is kind and hardworking, and both a servant and Master at the same time, like Jesus, but at the same time Poldark falls prey to lust when he's empty or feeling inadequate or lost. He speaks of God sometimes, and he despises the gossip and snobbery of others, but instead of proving them wrong he proves their rumors true by disobeying God and going around with women he's not married to. He's someone you admire and relate to,, yet at the same time, what kind of man sleeps with prostitutes and then his maidservant before marrying her? Someone who lacks control. Demelza said ''Let it be true'', the terrible rumors nasty people are spreading. But it's encouraging pride in your sins and fallen nature, that is not love, love is not a feeling or excitement, it is an action, it is to will the good of another. And if you aren't looking after each other's souls then you aren't truly loving. He could've proved those fake Christians wrong. Just because nasty people claim they're Christians but then gossip and treat people bad doesn't mean they're true Christians, it means those people aren't following God's true laws. By rebelling against God and falling to lust you're not fighting the evil of nasty people, you're fighting goodness and purity itself.
