Doki Doki Metal Club is a story of a high school club of metalheads.
Instead of literature, this time it's music that the girls are passionate about.
MC, a poser listening to metalcore, joins a club where every member has a different taste in metal.
Yuri, a metal elitist, is a fan of "true metal" and all things kvlt. She introduces MC to the world of black metal.

Personally, it would be cool if the music was replaced by a heavy metal cover.

I like how the Yuri and Natsuki are satanic metal heads in this AU and still apologized to each other unlike in the original game where they're supposed to be "nicer". Don't judge a book by its cover I guess.

Hi, resident metalhead here, if anyone needs help understanding all the references I got you covered. 1. "Poser" is a term used commonly to refer to people who don't like metal or a specific subgenre, which I personally find stupid. Like what you wanna like, just don't give other people shit for liking specific music. 2. Now, the "poser shit" that is AC/DC and Black Sabbath are probably just a cheapshot from someone who thought it'd be funny. Black Sabbath is considered the very first Heavy Metal band, forming up in 1968 and releasing their debut album in 1970. While AC/DC is considered not a metal band by many people (myself included), they DID however contribute to its evolution in the late 70s and 80s. 3. There's a bit of clever word usage by referring to Slipknot and Korn as new, despite the bands forming in 1995 and 1993 respectively. The subgenre they're considered to be is called Nu Metal, a subgenre that fuses metal with hip-hop elements. In fact, Korn is widely credited as the first Nu Metal band. 4. The line at 3:36 is a reference to Left Behind, a song from the aforementioned Slipknot, off their sophomore (and most popular) album Iowa. 5. Mosh pits are common at metal concerts. 6. As mentioned, Natsuki made cupcakes to look like famous metal musicians, though the only one that's confirmed to be in the tray is Ozzy Osbourne, who I feel like needs no introduction. As for other notable names, we could include Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Lemmy Kilmeister, Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, James Hetfield, and a few others. 7. The reason Yuri calls MC "not much of a metalhead" for saying his favorite subgenre is Metalcore is because a lot of metalheads (we call them gatekeepers, although that's a long story) don't consider Metalcore a true metal subgenre. Metalcore, by the way, is a fusion of Metal and Hardcore Punk, and also has some of the most accessible metal bands out there. You hear of bands like Bad Omens and Sleep Token that have been blowing up lately? That's what they are. 8. In the 1990s, Black Metal began to gain notoriety across Northern and Western Europe, specifically in Norway, although we'll get back to that. Summoning, an Austrian duo, is one of the more... interesting groups, to say the least. While bands like Darkthrone, Mayhem (oh, we'll GET to these guys), Burzum (this one will also come back later), and Gorgoroth were chanting about Satan, hell, and whatnot, Summoning was telling tales of nature and fantasy themes akin to that of Tolkien and Moorcock. They're worth checking out, although be warned, 6 of their 8 studio albums go for over an hour in length, so make sure your schedule's clear for the day before doing so. 9. Black Metal is one of if not THE most extreme major subgenre of metal. Its origins can be traced back to Newcastle trio Venom, with their 1981 debut Welcome To Hell, more akin to the sound of Motorhead at the time, but darker. It didn't reach its most known form in 1984, thanks to Swedish one man outfit Bathory with his self-titled debut. What the gold standard of Black Metal is came to be in Norway in the early 1990s, with Mayhem, Burzum, Darkthrone, Emperor, Gorgoroth, Immortal, Dimmu Borgir, Enslaved, Satyricon, and Borknagar emerging as some of the key pieces in its development, along with Dissection, Dark Funeral, Rotting Christ, and Behemoth emerging out of other European nations. If I had to recommend any of these bands, 100% they would be Behemoth, Emperor and Enslaved. Fans of these bands and others from the 90s scene and fans of those bands ONLY are considered Trve Kvltists. The name's stupid, I know. Black Metal is riddled in mainstream controversy for some of its notable figures not being the nicest people on Earth (more on that later). 10. Deafheaven is a Blackgaze band from California, a band that merges, as the name implies, Black Metal and Shoegaze (yes, THAT Shoegaze). Riddled in controversy by Trve Kvltists for lord knows what reason, Deafheaven is most known for their 2013 sophomore album Sunbather, and its influence on the metal world can still be felt even ten years later. I'd HIGHLY recommend you listen to it, it's a spectacle of the time period. 11. While metal doesn't dive into the topic of love too often without being twisted, there are some bands that tackle it, most notably Type O Negative and Opeth. I promise you, despite that comparison, they are NOTHING alike. AND NOW THE FUN PART 12. The "Norwegian black metal idiots who burned down a few churches" refers to a mass attack carried out by members of the Norwegian Black Metal scene throughout the early and mid 90s of the burning of churches. Some members who carried out these attacks were Faust (Emperor), Samoth (Emperor), Jørn Inge Tunsberg (Hades Almighty), and most notably, Varg Vikernes (Mayhem / Burzum). All were charged with arson, and some of the churches have been restored. SPEAKING OF VARG... 13. In 1993, two members of Mayhem, Euronymous and the aforementioned Varg Vikernes had a dispute over a reason still unknown. This got heated very quickly, and Varg stabbed Euronymous 23 times, leading to Euronymous's death. Now, Euronymous wasn't just another guy in the scene, if Norwegian Black Metal was a circus, he was the ringmaster. So, naturally, this sent shockwaves across the scene. Varg was charged with murder and sentenced to 21 years in 1994, but got released on parole in 2008, and now lives in France with his wife. He's also a Neo-Nazi but that's a footnote in this story by now. 14. Oh you thought we were done with Mayhem? Ha, NOPE! Their original vocalist Dead was kind of a psycho, constantly wanting to smell like a rotting corpse. In April 1991, he slit his wrists, then shot himself. Euronymous got a disposable camera, took photos of Dead's... well, dead body, took bits if his skull and made them into necklaces, and gave them to those he deemed worthy. He also made stew with parts of Dead's brain. I swear, I am not making any of this up. 15. HAHA WE ARE STILL NOT DONE WITH MAYHEM! De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is the band's debut album, released of 1994. Considered arguably the pinnacle of Norwegian Black Metal, its influence is still felt to this day. Me personally? I think it's fiiiiiiiiiine. Once again, Emperor and Enslaved would be my recommendations. The production on De Mysteriis, among many other classic Black Metal albums, is horrid, but that's intended, to make it sound as evil as possible. And I think that's it! You're welcome.

Hey, I'm the mod's creator. 2. The "poser shit" line (and the one about Korn) was just meant to make MC sound like a dick and to show he has no interest in anything other than nu metal and the like. Basically, think of it like a poser calling others posers. 6. I actually had all of those people in mind while writing about cupcakes lol 8. I really, REALLY fucking love Summoning. 11. As for "songs about love", I was thinking of hair metal bands like Motley Crue but Type O Negative and Opeth work better with Natsuki. TON will appear later in the mod, by the way.

I plan on continuing to explain some things people might not understand, and if there's any corrections, let me know! Cheers man

IDK guys black metal always sounded to me as pleasant as a mother's ramblings but I kinda liked some of the stuff from burzum I sampled earlier which I will give it a try if I can get past the subconscious guilt I feel from knowing the various satnic and antiChristian behaviour within heavy metal.
