🙄 You do know that this episode is around 15 years old, yes? As well, every single reaction and comment is directed by the producer shooting onsite. What's hilarious is how clueless and gullible almost all viewers are about these shows. It's very well known, if one watches more than just the stupid "reality" shows, that this junk is all directed by the producer---there are documentaries all over YT that tell just how false all of this is, and how much of it is done to the producer's instructions. These women typically get stuck with an 8 hour shoot, no water or food in there, barely any kind of bathroom break, and they try on dress after dress after dress, but the producer picks only 3 or 4 and then tells the brides that THIS is the one I want you to wear for the "Yes to the dress" part. Very often the brides do not choose that dress, but go with one that the viewers aren't shown at all. It's the same garbage on the home improvement shows, the home buying shows, every single bit of so-called "reality" tv. Nothing is the truth, but viewers swallow up all the drama and angst of the shopping brides (or house hunters, etc.). It's nothing but "entertainment," and the one form of it that sucks so many people in, it's the most successful format since daytime soap operas. If one watches with the knowledge that nothing seen is reality, it makes the show look entirely different. BTW, this particular episode is from around 15 years ago, not new at all.

She was way more supportive than the father though, so I don't think it's fair to blame her for this. Given the dynamics here I would imagine the father probably suggested double appointment because it "was practical" and the daughter and future wife are used to trying to be agreeable so they agreed... It's not impossible that that's how it went down so, again, blaming the stepmom seems a little too convenient. I mean, the dad was the problem at the appointment, quite clearly.

Dad admitted that he doesn't see his daughter as a bride. He's more interested in what his own future wife looks like. Every dress the wife came out in was fawned over - every dress the daughter came out in was "meh". You could see the hurt in the daughter's eyes. Terrible idea to have a double appointment like that. It did rob the daughter of a special moment. At the absolute minimum, have successive appointments on the same day, Daughter in the morning, Dad's fiancée in the afternoon, with a clear break between the two. But the two brides showing up at the same time with their potential choices, just no. I blame Kleinfeld's for this. This being said, it's hard faking enthusiasm for a dress that one doesn't find attractive at all. Glad the bride liked it, but from the esthetic point of view, I'm with Dad. At the minimum I hope the dress was altered so that the bust didn't sag.

@@lysem4392 i'm sure they had it fitted to sit on her properly. the only thing i would change about the bottom is make the skirt out of lace instead of tulle (or whatever that's made of). the more antique lace especially combined with the belt really suited her, it just didn't fit the modern-style bottom. but if it's a choice between that dress or losing that top, i'd keep that dress.

You know, considering how many brides look forward to the day they finally shop for their dress, I can't begin to fathom why any woman would want to share the spotlight on that day. Some will say it doesn't matter to them, and what matters more is sharing the spotlight with someone they care about, but that is rarely the case once it comes to that fateful moment when both brides step out in a gown and suddenly find themselves competing for compliments. I feel like the future step-mom was the most caring and supportive of Courtney of the group. It was unfair for her to have to share her appointment and I feel like it was probably because of her dad that they had the double appointment. The dad really didn't seem to care at all about his daughter and was even speaking kind of negatively about his future wife when he was saying he thought she'd have a harder time having a dress she'd look good in. Courtney deserved better from her entourage and especially from her dad, and Rita deserves a high five for being so caring and supportive of Courtney.

I feel a lot of empathy for this young woman, but my unpopular opinion is that sometimes it's best not to take family and friends to these appointments. It's a fun idea in theory, but there's a lot of pressure on everyone to respond a certain way to the "perfect" dress, and so often the bride's feelings are crushed when she doesn't get that. If my own best friend were getting married, I'd tell her to go shopping alone and find a dress she loves, because that's all that really matters. Never let other people's opinions and reactions determine how you feel or what you want. Not to mention, as someone with friends on the spectrum, people don't express themselves the same way, so basing any decision on another person's reaction just doesn't work lol.

I can kind of understand making a trip together to save time and money, but the bride didn't really have anyone there to support her. It would've been better if they had separate appointments completely, like one after the other or one where the bride had her own entourage and the step mom had her own as well and they were in diff areas of the store. They could peek in on each other if they wanted to but it wouldn't have been like this where it feels like they're constantly being compared.

How many of you think that any bridal shop should never allow for two brides to have a fitting at the same time? They should have scheduled one bride for an appt. then the 2nd bride for an appt. after the first bride was finished. It is NEVER a good idea to have two brides competing for attention and approval. The future step-mother should have known better than to take anything away from her future step-daughter and should have allowed her to try on gowns first before she even tried to look for a gown.
