My wedding dress seemed meh to me when my mom showed it to me. I put it on just for her and I ended up in tears. So I get it.

The details on the white dresses never show. During the ceremony people are not close enough to see the details, and at the reception it often is too dark for the details to show. All this attention to the lace, the bling, etc. is really wasted on a white dress. The only thing that really matters is the silhouette.

I didn't think that was why she was crying, and I don't think the woman was tactless about it. I think she was crying because when you weigh more than you wish you did, and someone else talks about their weight loss, it can be easy to feel like "That will never be me" and that makes people emotional.

There was probably an inspirational or sad story in between. I interpreted it as she may have felt overcome because she immediately saw that woman as an adversary who didn't know her struggles, but upon learning more, realized that maybe things weren't as impossible as they seemed.

@@jenettemerlini6035 what was harsh? She assumed the lady was the same weight and therefore made conclusions the dress wont fit, and the lady enlightened her why it would fit her to encourage her to try it.

@@jemmaj2919 because it suddenly hit her that she's heavier than the other lady and would like to be smaller for her wedding. Perhaps she was trying very hard to lose weight but couldn't; it would be like a slap in the face.

I always dislike when I say I'm fat and people (usually other women) automatically reply with "No you're not!!" Yes I am. I know I am. It is a fact that I am fat, but I also like who I am. I think it's become the culture to say "No you're not" as a way to replace "But you're pretty" or "but you're really nice." The two aren't immediately mutually exclusive.

It is a very, very lovely dress, I think. And a little bit different.
