This is so timely, we just got a 890R for track/racing as well. Thanks for sharing! :D

Hey I saw your videos. I'm a total beginner but really wanna get the 890 R.. would you support that decision instead of wasting money on a 390?
@vtranmoto

@@johnadams3038 hi John, thanks for watching, that's a great question. The answer is going totally depend on what your goals are with riding. If you 're looking for a bike to commute, do some casual rides around town, and that immediately looks cool. The 890R is a great option, I think its forgiving enough for beginners (just set it to Street mode to learn and gradually work up to the sportier/more aggressive throttle feel). If you really want to invest in skill development and learn how to ride fast properly (in corners, not just in a straight line on the highway), then I do recommend the Duke or RC 390 (Ninja 400 is another great option). Get some seat time like a month or two just riding on the street, then try out a trackday to get some proper guidance and begin your skill development. Some people are satisfied with more casual experience, in which case either option is fine. If you're hungry to learn to develop *skill* then start small and work your way up. I'm sure if you go at it on the 390 with an open mind and focus on skill development, you'll move up to an 890/middleweight soon enough (OR you end up sticking with lightweight bikes and become really really fast at it, beating guys on bigger bikes is always pretty satisfying because its 100% skill). No wrong decision, just think about what it is that YOU want out of riding.

Keep the mods coming! The 790 & 890 hardware/bolt-on’s are pretty much all identical minus a few things here and there. Like the radiator guard for example.

Very informative, thank you for the video. I think Ill be upgrading to a Suter clutch in the future for my 890.

As a longtime track rider and racer, I can say that only so many things transfer to the street... cornering is not really one of them, we just don't have corners like a track does on the road.

So the Akrapovic map was used to obtain 120Hp?

This may be a dumb question but were you having the slipper clutch issues in track mode? The track mode on these bikes disables the MSR so the slipper clutch is not really fully functioning. Also if you didn't get the tech pack then MSR isn't on ever. I'm nowhere near enough the rider to tell on my 890R if the slipper clutch isn't working good enough.
@thejudge3040
@thejudge3040 2 жыл бұрын
I think the MSR does work in track, but if you use supermoto abs it disables the rear sensor that the MSR uses so no more MSR. Same though I've never had rear chatter on mine, don't abuse it enough
@SounderMusician
@SounderMusician 2 жыл бұрын
@@thejudge3040 I read that KTM disabled MSR in track mode so "the rider can experience consistent engine braking" or something like that. If I find it on the website I'll copy paste it here lol
@SounderMusician
@SounderMusician 2 жыл бұрын
@@thejudge3040 if you go to ktms website and navigate to the 890 duke R, the last section for software and electronics has a short write up for each rider mode. At the bottom it has track mode and says "MSR is switched off in track mode to allow more control"

@@SounderMusician yep. This is in the manual too. It’s a lot more rowdy & gives a lot more rigid feedback.

Nice vid. I’ve noticed downshifting to 1st is useless for anything but slowing for a stop. Might need to pick up a Suter clutch.

I’m not a racer and I wanted to know what the point is in upgrading the slipper if the autoblipper is supposed to downshift and take all the chatter out making the downshift seemless? Great videos, very much looking forward to this one!

Even if the shift is smooth its a lot of compression braking on an un loaded rear wheel.

I wonder if the KTM map was done at high elevation, them being from Austria. That would bring the air ratio ratio down.

I'm curious about what you'll be doing on the intake side. Quite shocked to hear you're not a fan of the Rottweiler intakes. I always assumed those were the absolute best for KTM twins.

I am finding a lot of conflicting information on the internet about the Akrapovic Evolution full exhaust. Did the dealer add the engine mapping? Some sites say it doesn't need any mapping but others say it will wreck the engine without the Akrapovic map installed. Then several forums say that adding the mapping will disable your turn signals. Is any of this true? Thanks.
