When I first tried the SC Trainer, I found its jumbo midsole to be a rare combination of stable and squishy. But can a shoe this tall retain all that goodness in the long term? Let’s talk about the SC Trainer after 100 miles

I am at 450 miles on SC trainers. Paired with NB Elite V3 for workouts. Love the tall stack, durability and snap/bounce. Feels like I will get over 600 miles similar to my NB Elite V2s which kicked around 650.

@@mason.n3259 on the SC trainers? Yeah, just ran a fast tempo in them. Feels like there is some snap still. These are becoming my easy run shoes because of the cushion longevity like you mentioned. Elite V3s for everything fast but gonna keep on with the SCs till I lose the bounce. 500 miles on them now.

Are you guys on the lighter side? I’m larger (6’3, 190lbs) and both pairs of my SC trainers started to show significant wear in the exposed foam area by around 150 miles and had to retire them at 200. Even the more v4’s started to wear down around the same mileage.

I have the cloud colored ones, been wearing them for 8 hour shifts nightly at work on my feet, lots of the time carrying heavy stuff to stock, and they are f"ckin amazing, I came off of Invincible Runs trying UB 21s and being highly disappointed, then got these and they changed my f*ckin work life fr, stable, comfy, bouncy, hell 5 months in and still bouncing around to this day in amazement of how awesome they feel, no joke, love, love love my SC Trainers 🥰

As a mid/forefoot striker like you, I definitely consider the SC trainer a luxury purchase. I don't regret buying it, but it's hard to defend the price and like you said, it's pretty heavy and not very versatile. That said, I love what I use it for. It's what I reach for the day after a hard workout. It's great for gentle recovery runs, but I do think the shoe performs well for hill sprints and strides at the end of an easy run. For my purposes, it's been a great recovery shoe. Really keen to try the superblast if they ever go on sale!

I have about 150 miles on mine and love them. Just got back from a 9.5 miler. They’re so much faster than mine Rebel V2’s and V3’s. It’s hard for me to “slow it down” in the SC Pacers. I kinda just bop along in them so easily.

Nice review, a very fair and thorough assessment of what it is and isn't. Probably doesn't fit in my rotation for now, as I use the RC Elite 2 for long runs with faster segments, More v4 and 1080 for long and easy, and the Rebel (have yet to purchase v3) for daily and tempo-ish stuff. Really pleased with the NB line-up and will keep coming back as long as they don't screw things up.
@Burps___

I have the exact same shoes as you, JC, and same purposes. I bought the Rebel V3 and tbh, it's not at all fast and low like the V1 and V2...so much so that after I biought the Rebel V3, I was so disappointed I immediately went out and bought a second pair of Rebel V1 and Rebel V2s LOL. If I was in your shoes (get it lol) and using them as you are, I would spring for a pair of NB SC Pacers over the Rebel V3 (see Kofuzi review of the Pacer). I think you'd like them a lot, and they are less costly than the Elite 3, and they're sublime. The SC Pacer is, indeed, faster than the Rebels and my SC Elite 3s (which are fun but a tad squishy for me). ymmv enjoy!

Mike - your first review on the SC Trainer was how I got into this shoe. I’m @180 miles (black color way) and keep going back to it ever time over some of your other super shoes which I have switched off and on for during my Boston training block. Being a heavier runner, I feel this shoe has improved actually for me over time and held up well from the carbon plate from my first run. I have been able to use it now for long easy to tempo/threshold. This is now my “go to trainer” and just ordered the green color way for my upcoming summer training block. Thanks for all of the solid shoe reviews.

I bought this a couple months ago and only took it for one run after an especially painful leg-day induced DOMS. Then saw it in my cupboard as I was thinking what shoe to wear after another painful leg day, and thought let's rewatch some reviews. Thanks for this. I usually see first impression type of things but rarely something on very long term durability, which on my budget is important

Amazing shoes, I've run about 330km in them on a treadmill now, they are still like new, amazing feeling when I run in them, bouncy and responsive, so much fun, my feet never feel tired! I usually run 10km 3-4 times/week, easy pace, I am a beginner though... Hands down my favorite shoe ever!!! Just ran 10km in Hoka Mach 5 for comparison and my feet were so tired and numb after the run, I had to work sooo much harder in the Hoka... I just want to go back to the SC trainer again asap, they are really sooooo much better!!! The Hoka Mach 5 stand no chance in comparison indeed, although they are lighter... Maybe due to the carbon plate, it does make a difference and compensates the heavier weight (+65g)!! The fit is perfect for me too, the weight is exactly 287g (us9)... I got them on a great discount, about 115 Euro, for this price a non-brainer!! ❤❤❤

Loving this review! It took me a while to truly appreciate this shoe because while it ticked all the boxes for comfy, stable long runs and also allowed me to pick up the pace too (and surprisingly so), i had an issue with rubbing on the left shoe's collar which soured things for me. Thankfully that has died down and it's a shoe that i am really beginning to truly enjoy as a result. The price point is totally wrong for sure, and it costs even more here in the UK. It will be interesting to see what they do with v2 - if the stack and weight is being reduced as word has it, then if they also put it at the correct price point, it really could be something special.

thank you for the review. i think the sc trainer is the black sheep for new balance, it keeps changing, it seems that at new balance they don't believe in their products, or they just like to experiment. i find it a bit disappointing. the first generation the fuelcell tc, was a really good trainer, very much underestimated by lots of people, yes it was a bit unstable and the upper could have used an improvement, but NB decided to create a totally new concept, the sc trainer (probably following the success of the adidas prime x ?), also a pretty good shoes, like you said, a bit expensive and not very versatile, but a very good long run/recovery easy run shoes. NB is changing it again, do you know why they keep changing it?

@@ryanblackburn Hi Ryan. Thanks for sharing! My HM pace is about half a minute /km slower than yours. I was considering doing my next marathon in the SC trainers, because, although my vaporflies make me faster, they beat up and hurt my feet a lot during a HM. I’m afraid my feet won’t survive a FM if using vapor- or alphaflies. On the other side: the SC trainers will protect them but might be a bit too heavy for those 42.2 kilometers. My next step is to find out whether the SC elites might give me more protection than the Nikes. If that is the case, the issue would be pretty much solved. If not the SC trainers might be the best option. Tried them out a couple of days ago and I’m not disappointed at all.

Run like Heller ran a marathon pr in these and i wonder if for me, who finds things like thr Alphafly v1 and Endorphin speed v1 too unstable due to the softness of foam (i have used Glideride,Rocket X 1 and Mach 5 for last 3 marathons) this will be a good marathon shoe 🧐🧐

6'3" 180lb novablast 3 fan here...I ran in the new supercomp trainer v2 today and it was wider than the Novablast 3. They felt similar in bounce...I was hoping for a bigger difference given the trainer has a plate. I'd say they are both solid daily trainers...it didnt make me want to spend more $ to upgrade.

@marceloago9862
@marceloago9862 Жыл бұрын
@@kofuzi let me try to explain: sc trainer is a platted shoe for easy runs that in some cases may be used for long or tempo runs. The propel v4 is also a platted shoe for tempo/long run and may be used for easy runs. So if the objective is to have a shoe for easy/tempo/long propel v4 is a good alternative for a lower price comparing to sc trainer.

Nimbus is not a workout shoe and doesn't have a carbon plate. Purely for easy or recovery runs. I think it feels closer to the Fresh Foam More v4 than the SC Trainer.

these "daily training" shoes is getting ridiculously expensive. I hope the sales of these are low enough to make brands reconsider their pricing. $200 should be for race shoes or ones capable for racing only
@kofuzi

I hope the opposite. I hope that when brands experiment on different kinds of shoes that they each find a niche following. I think more options are better. What works for some may not work for others.
@duydnguyenn

@kofuzi Agree more options are better, but eventually they have to be consolidated in some ways. Right now it feels like brands throwing punches while what people love usually get changed pretty soon. And when all follow suit with a $200 price tag it becomes a new normal, but it should not.
