Scabies is a commom and highly contagoius skin infestation caused by a tiny burrowing mite, Sarcoptes scabiei. The main feature is intense itching in the areas infested by the mite. It is one of the commonest dermatological conditions, accounting for a substantial proportion of skin disease in developing countries.
