Today we had our local Pace rep drop off the brand new Scag V Ride 2 for Demo! I have been eagerly awaiting getting to test out some products from Scag lawn mowers and it finally came together.
I reached out to the folks at Scag last fall to line up a demo, so I could weigh in and test out the Scag V Ride 2 and the Scag Turf Tiger 2 on our channel. Lot of you guys know I enjoy using my Exmark's, but I wanted to see what all the hype was about with the Scag V Ride 2!
We met up with Michael and Rich and did a full walk around, signed the paper work, and got to get some initial tests on Michaels property. We really enjoyed our first initial uses and impressions with the Scag V Ride 2! I can see why you guys like this one!
Stay tuned for a part 2 and 3 this week as we put her to the test and capture a bunch of footage with us mowing, and then my final review/thoughts on the mower by the end of the week!
Do you guys like the Scag V Ride 2? What's your guys experience with Scag been like so far? Leave me a comment down below!

This was exactly the video I was looking for. I ride a 61” Cheetah for a large volunteer mowing job I do. At some point before retirement I’m looking at starting a residential mowing company and I’ve been looking for a demo video of this rider. We beat the Cheetah up really hard mowing 55 of 110 acres and that mower keeps working along with fairly minimal issues. When I start my lawn mowing business this unit next to the trailer and truck will be one of the most important purchases to get right the first time. More Scag, ExMark, Walker mower reviews, also appreciate the reviews of blowers and other key equipment. You earned a subscriber off this video and your other blower review videos. Thanks for keeping the reviews about the machines and less about personal bias or things that have nothing to do with the machines.

I Love my V-Ride 48 edition 1, nice review of version 2. I like the new operator safety switch, some guys disable it from the handle on version 1. It's a fast mower with a superb cut & pretty good on slopes. I've used it on a 20 degree grade & it cuts like butta

Thanks for the video. I use Scag and they are great machines. The Scag rep mentioned that you lean more into this machine with the 2 vs the 1. I have the Scag VRide 1, I was noticing the difference for taller operators, if you noticed having to bend over a little when riding partcularly with the different lean into the machine design. I'm 6'2. Looks like taller operators would be more comfortable standing straight up. Wanted to know after several hours of operation if you prefer leaning in or standing upright. Thanks.

We run tiger cats and a tiger cat 2. Down here in the south, the bahia grass is rough on blades. When bahia comes out, we will change blades 2 or even 3 times in a day to keep from stringing. We use an impact wrench and a simple floor jack and can do it in about 5 min. The exhaust placement on that would make changing mid day rough if it doesn't have time to cool.

Brain, one more thing about the Toro. The grandstand has the ability to take attachments, like a boss snowplow, a broom, and more. The Grandstand has a 60 inch deck, and a 52, if I'm not mistaken. Whatever the case, the plow and broom can be extremely useful during the winter. Either one is great, but you may want to consider a Toro.

Hey Brian! I saw your video on the scag demo. I'm a Scag user for some 20 or so, using the walk behind (36s & 48s) sometimes using the velke. I was looking at the stand on V2. My question is, what's the trick cutting for mowing a straight line/stripe using the stand on. I've never used a stand on before.

Hello Brian. Great video. Like you I am a BIG Exmark fan. I am interested in getting a new 48" Vantage. I'm still debating whether to get it with a discharge deck or a mulching kit. Something I like from the scag V Ride 2 is that 18-inch opening and the fact that the hydros remain locked while the handbrake is on. That is sweet. Will you be doing a Vantage demo anytime soon? Thanks again and keep up the great work!!!

I have a Scag V1 48in. Before starting my business, I worked for a guy that swore on Scag to be the best. I’ve had it for 3 seasons and put about 300 hours on it. The first year both axels came loose from the motors and damaged both rims.(under warranty) Then the hour meter stopped working and took 3 computers later to get one that worked. Year two the carburetor went with 180 hours on it. I was told that at the factory they use torque guns similar to a auto garage, not industrial guns that torque properly. To add, a deck bolt came loose season 3. Besides the poor manufacturing, I like my Scag. It’s fast and cuts nicely. I’m conflicted to buy another. I’m trying to convince myself that I got a lemon.

The new v2 is almost an exact copy from the wrights, so if you like one you should like the other(there is a reason they copied so much of the wrights because they had it right). Id get the v2 over the 1 hands down. The biggest thing is making sure you have a solid support from the dealer! Ive heard of a few people that werent happy with the support they got from scag fwiw, ymmv. Ive used both scag and wright but use wright now so i just kept with them got me a new 48 I gotta pick up. The one thing any company should do is add a dam ocdc built in! (even if its just a piece of flat stock that moves up and down to close the chute) I love the design of them so im sure you will really enjoy getting to use it, put it on some hills and really test its limits you will be surprised how much better they hold imo.

Great video Brian! I'm 18 and actually bought my v ride 2 a few weeks ago and I love it! However in the spring when the grass grows crazy fast I actually have to double cut Because it lays the clippings directly on top as quickly as possible lol. However, I think it will be single cut after the initial spring growth 😉👍 For the cut qualyand speed, it's a hard mower to beat!

Hey Brian, thanks for the videos. I am considering a stand on mower this spring. I have run Scag walk behind mowers in the past and found them to be very heavy. Good for durability, but tough on any type of wet turf (yes I am from California, but we have a lot of clay soil and is a bugger when wet). Let me know if the weight is a factor on that machine. Does anyone else have grass (a lot) coming up over the front of the deck? I'm not sold on the velocity deck. I'm caked in grass after I mow. 2018 Tiger II - 72" w/37hp

Brian's Lawn Maintenance Hate to say it but I wasn’t to impressed, lacked power and cut quality in the taller grass. I’m thinking most of the issues was due to the smaller 23hp Kawasaki. It sure does good on hills though!

I've demoed exmark, toro, gravely and scag and wright standers, save yourself alot of time and just buy the scag. You will quickly find that no deck cuts as nice as the velocity plus deck!.. I think I need to sell my vride for a vride 2 I would love to see a review of the bobcat quick cat with the airfx deck....if you have a bobcat dealer around. I heard great things about bobcat and they are very reasonable price wise

How long does a tank of fuel last in the 52 vride.
@BriansLawnMaintenance
@BriansLawnMaintenance 5 жыл бұрын
Most engines are .8-1gal per hour. Can’t say but if you look up the gas tank capacity, you’ll get a good estimation. I’d imagine 8-12 gallons. 8-12 hours.

Brian - would you prefer an efi powered 61: v ride 2 compared to the 37hp big block vanguard powered turf tiger 2?

All depends. Wide open, TT2. Subs, 52 V Ride. I’m torn between both but the main issue: my dealer only sells Exmark.

Brian's Lawn Maintenance -- since right now scag is offering a promo that can equate to getting 3 scag v-ride 1 machines for the price of 2 would u go the route of a 36" and 2 of the 52s/61s or 2 of the 36's ammdd a 52/61 since they're brand new and good machines? That extra machine could give you the luxury of being able to afford the extra down time it would take to fix 1 of them

Don’t understand why put all that extra fuel on one side of the mower instead of centering the fuel tank over the axle to help with stability. The battery on the opposite side doesn’t counterweight this.

Own one, and liking it so far. Only thing I've noticed so far to be aware of are: Those larger new wheels and tires can be aggressive to grass. Must totally take your time in the 3 point turn in order to not have turn and burn marks on the lawn. You can not walk behind this mower while it's running. I personally am ok with that safety wise, however, if there is something in the lawn, and you want to hop off and move it before hitting it, you must disengage blades, set brake, get off, idle down, then start blades again, idle back up and off you go. Just more thinking ahead and being aware. Move items in lawn on previous pass vs waiting until you come up on it. Deck belts have a small side cover on them, however it is not a closed or boxed in area around pulleys so lots of debris and sticks seem to find their way into the pulley area while you're cutting. Be sure to blow them out after EVERY cut. Long term I am worried about sticks and debris getting lodged in there and prematurely wearing out belts or pulleys , but that's yet to be seen. Other than that, super smooth machine, solid on hills, stripes well, zero clumping. Mowed beautiful 6" wet and fertilized thick lawn the other day and yes I had to triple cut because of how lush the lawn was, but never did it clump AT ALL. Just had to go over wind rows a few times. Homeowner came home and was thrilled at how his lawn looked.
