You really ought to do a ScaleTrains conversion using a Nixtrainz decoder buddy. So much easier! You don't need to add any resistors, it takes a 21 pin decoder and very few splices are needed. Its a great assist.

That is a whole lot of resistors! I’d feel safer using a motherboard with resistors. A good video and this answered my question of if I need resistors when fully replacing the board with a board decoder. Now I know I’ll just get a motherboard with built in resistors and the 21 pin decoder.

Excellent video, George. I was wondering what the workaround would be and this is what I had figured. Not terribly tough of an install and the upgrade will be worth it.

Nice conversion George. Two questions: One - With all of the models now using LEDs shouldn't SoundTraxx produce a PNP-8 decoder set up for LEDs? Two - When are you going to repair that poor old GP18 that has been sitting one your workbench? Also, your comment about the speakers in the ScaleTrains diesel made me think. I have a pair of their Operator series C44-9W's that I replaced the original decoders with your Econami NEM decoders. I am going to check the speaker arrangement in them.

Thanks for the feedback. many of our newly released decoders are coming with LED-friendly function outputs eliminating the need for resistors. The TSU-PNP8 has not made it there yet, but we will keep this in mind. The TSU-BH1 available in EMD, GE, and ALCO is slightly bigger that the TSU-PNP8 and it offers 8 LED-Friendly outputs so it may be an alternative for some installs. Is there a way to get all the class lights working on a Bowser SD40-2 with a TSU2? They used a different approach than ST and surface mounted all of their LEDs onto various lighting boards. In the end I model the modern day so I don't 'need' the class lights to work, but they sure would be nice to have anyway.

I thought you could just use the “V1” pad for micro leds because its 1.5v?
@SoundtraxxDCC
@SoundtraxxDCC 2 жыл бұрын
On the TSU-PNP8 the V1 is for 1.5v microbulbs. Not for LEDs. LEDs need about 3v, but are primarily current sensitive, so you need to use the +14v and resistors. Please contact our Support Department directly for more help with this, thank you. SoundTraxx Support Department: soundtraxx.com/contact/technical-support?

Why would one want to downgrade? Less functions and loss of factory capacitors.

I wouldn’t say downgrade. It’s personal preference. I’d choose to ride In a Cadillac, while some like to ride in pintos or station wagons. I choose Soundtraxx over loksound

@@SoundtraxxDCC I’m fairly new to DCC and have installed an Econami decoder in my ScaleTrains SD40-2, but I’m having trouble getting lights working since it seems the Soundtraxx and Loksound decoders do not operate the lights with the same function buttons. Does it require reprogramming the functions? I have found your videos to be interesting and helpful. Incidentally I’ve bought Econami decoders because I was converting numerous locomotives.
