People asking about some particular subjects not in the video- -What's new Scooby Doo is great but it's just modern scooby, and it mostly exists because of Zombie Island's success, so I ain't got nuttin else to say bout it, was kinda just going for broad strokes here - Tried the apocalypse comic and I love DeMatteis but ehhhh, yet another post apocalypse comic or hilarious shonen parody, which do you think i'd have had more fun editing c'mon fam -Ain't nobody even mentioning Laff a Lympics ya heathens smh

1.really good video,I love this. 2 one thing which you didn't mention ,that before John Constantine,Before Buffy "The Vampire Slayer"Summers, and to a small point,Kolchak:The Night Stalker. Scooby Doo (and The Scooby gang) were the First Super-Famous "Paranormal Detectives" that everyone knew. And plus the famous trope that have been Aped in multiple tv and Movies:The Chase scenes with pop music,Scooby snacks as Drug Reference,SHAGGY as a Marajuana Icon(even though he's based on Maynard G Krebs, played by Bob "Gilligan" Denver ). And the implied ,by the fans sexual tension of Fred/Daphane and Velma/Shaggy and of course "I would've gotten Away with it if it wasn't for you Meddling KIDS!!"

Given that you persuaded me to give one or two Scooby series I'd decided to pass over a second chance, I am a little sad you didn't say more on _Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!_ I was in my 20's when it aired... but since I was still a "big kid", I watched Saturday morning cartoons (usually by recording them and watching them after work). I'd skip this show because the first episode was _meh_ as were the handful of others I'd sometimes "accidentally" watch (because it was on in the background or I was too lazy to fast-forward). *Except* for the finale. I hadn't planned on watching it, but I did and it was actually decent, maybe even good. However, the local affiliate (or maybe the network itself) stopped airing it shortly after, so I never got around to seeing if I had been too hard on it or if it was truly as bad as it seemed _except_ for a handful of good jokes. I mean, from what I do remember, I think I was relating to and rooting for the series main bad guy...

One thing about Zombie Island that I love is that when the villains' masks are removed, it isn't the moment that the conflict is over, like usual. Instead, it's the moment where the threat of the movie reaches its absolute peak.

Yeah it's genius. To go a bit deeper, if I may: normally in Scooby-Doo, when the mask is removed from the monster to reveal the normal person beneath, there's a sense of returning normalcy. The characters and audience are reassured that the world is normal after all, and there really wasn't anything to be afraid of. But in Zombie Island, the entire formula happens in reverse. The mask is removed from the normal humans, revealing monsters beneath. All that effort that previous Scooby-Doo properties have put into reassuring you that at the end of the day, monsters aren't real, is suddenly shattered. Everything is turned on it's head, and the situation seems hopeless. The characters don't know how to deal with the situation they now face, which reflects the audience's shock at the movie going in such a different direction. It's no surprise, then, that the only ones who can save the day are the ones who have *always* believed in the supernatural explanation until proven otherwise: Shaggy and Scooby.

@@satansgayniece6246 very good analysis, as a kid I felt what you described and I think that's why zombie island still sticks in my head. You get shadow ghosts, to dragons, to evil toys, to gator people, to the traditional universal monsters. @Will N Considering that what's new scooby doo had episodes when they went to places like Russia and when they did go to already visited concepts it was done differently enough to not warrant comparisons. Second, nearly most of your comment has barely any correlation to mine. I didn't say anything about the gang's traits, or "Contemporary Placement". Third, how are you gonna accuse what's new scooby doo of nearly killing the series when evidence says otherwise? It had multiple movies based on the artstyle, using voice actors after the show already ended. Shaggy and scooby doo got a large negative reception, it was not a liked show and it ended with less episodes and seasons.
@sontho6995
@sontho6995 4 жыл бұрын
@Will N The foundation of the show was taking the original format of the show and modernizing it for the 21st century, because there was no 2000s era scooby do television show. Scooby doo does get better ratings when it changes the status quo, but stuff like 13 ghosts or get a clue, or any of the scrappy shows were just adding characters to see what sticks. Not stuff like Mystery Inc which actually furthers the show; also a pup named scooby doo had 4 seasons, not 3. Mystery Inc by its structure is so drastic compared to any of the scooby doo shows, and Return to Zombie Island wasn't status quo it was nostalgia bait for the original film and the tv films have little in common with What's new when it comes to the writing structure, artstyle, and animation.

A Pup Named Scooby Doo was my favorite growing up. I love how they were always making fun of common Scooby Doo tropes while still doing them. It was actually the only series Fred wasn’t voice by Frank Welker.

I love that Zombie Island switches the villain reveal. In a regular episode at the end the gang unmask a monster to reveal a human. In Zombie Island they end up unmasking humans that are revealed as monsters.

Well made and very good. Let me say, you are the only reviewer who I have ever heard focus the point made that "A Pup named Scooby Doo" takes place in a 50s aesthetic. I had an argument with someone about that claimes it was supposed to be the 1990s. Well said...thus, I am subscribed. Carry on!!!!

THANK YOU! I can’t believe I finally found a Scooby video with good things to say about Be Cool. I’ve been annoyed at it’s bad reputation for years, I watched the whole thing through with my dad, who’s also a Scooby fan, and we both loved it. I can’t wait for it to be appreciated after it’s time ala Wind Waker. Also yes, Scooby in Be Cool is the best, by far many of the funniest lines in the show. Also it’s subtle, but the wheezing noise he made after blowing up balloons in “Into the Mouth of Madcap” was great. Also great video, I’m loving the sudden attention Scooby’s getting on KZfaq now that the 50th anniversary is here.

This was "my" show growing up. My bedroom was decked out in all scooby stuff, I owned every one of these on tape, and was obsessed. I don't do anything in film for a career, but went to school for it my last couple years of highscool, and since then have had a good eye for critiquing everything I watch. The nostalgia and now critical eye coming together on something like this as an adult is pretty satisfying. This was an extremely enjoyable surprise , your videos never let me down lol.

I gotta tell you, I’ve watched this video around 10 times and have recommended it to people who share my love of the Scooby franchise. This video truly dives into how grand of an icon Scooby doo has become, influencing other franchises, becoming a true standard, even being a gateway into horror/suspense and even being able to respectfully scale up or down itself in that sense. Scooby will continue to influence for years to come.

Another fantastic video! Seeing so many cartoons and franchises rise and fall, I never stopped to question why Scooby Doo just kept going and always felt relevant. There's so many interesting takes for the same characters and premise, kudos to the writers who keep doing great things with these characters. Also mad respect for the Scoob and Shag call out, that silly webcomic is TOO GOOD.

For the latest series, Mystery Inc. had the most interesting storyline and it was cool having an episodic Scooby Doo with the entire story being the huge mystery. Be Cool Scooby Doo was definitely the funniest of them all. I missed quite a few episodes but those that I did see kept me entertained and I felt like the gang grew with me as it was still entertaining to watch. I will definitely give the webtoons series a try but also hope there will be a new Scooby Doo universe show coming soon!

Honestly them making the hex girls and Vincent regular parts of the SD universe that show up sometimes makes me wish they would do the same for Flim Flam, the ghoul girls, and yes...even an updated scrappy. I mean even the "scooby rip off" characters have shown up to be parts of their universe so I'd love to see other characters from other series or movies show up every now and then.

My head canon about the solo Scooby/Shaggy (and sometimes Scrappy and/or Daphne) is that all those "real" ghosts and stuff were actually some guy in a mask, but the two of them were just too scared to solve the mystery.
