If we do not vote for NOTA, then nobody will take NOTA seriously in future. If we vote for NOTA, we might get wrong candidates for one or two terms but we will bring NOTA into the light. And judiciary will start taking notice of it and can bring in better regulations and laws with respect to NOTA. That is my thinking.

My opinions, what if there is no democracy left till the 2 or 3 terms you're talking about? Also, after all these years of democracy, we have evidences as mentioned, of NOTA voter share being strong, but any action taken? Sorry to say, but, I can only see the country getting more deaf towards NOTA in the future.

@@adityapathania1080 Exact same thought was going through my mind too what if we lose the right to vote in those terms. But I think we are a strong democracy not because our politicians are democratic but because we indians are democratic. And risk of losing right to vote is comparatively less. And the reason we are talking about NOTA(even though in negative sense) is because we voted for NOTA. Had we not voted for it, nobody would be talking about it and no one will talk about making better laws about it. But in the current situation, in this election we do risk losing democracy, hence voting NOTA for this election is not advisable. Better select a less risky candidate than vote for NOTA. But we need to keep NOTA alive in future elections to get better and meaningful NOTA laws.

Totally agreed 👍🏻 But even if there is One Candidate and NOTA Options, people will give their vote respectively right? Even if the NOTA gets highest votes, right now rules that are implied would make that One candidate win in the election of Surat. The only thing would be beneficial will be the statistics of counts which would be only helpful for future elections as rules aren’t implemented correctly for NOTA !

Courts in India are part and parcel of the drama, to pretend they r impartial. In reality the job of Courts are to do Damage control of the reputation that the goliath level corruption, vicuous ruse and intent that GOI and its agencies posses(which work only for interests of Hindustanis at the expense of looting, sabitaging, and restraining growth of Non Hindustanis) .

Ever since NOTA was introduced, I had this exact thing in mind and I did discuss it with a few friends. If NOTA wins, it is a clear indication that the voters don't find any of the candidates competent enough to represent them. Till there is a clear clarification of what would happen if NOTA wins, it is a wastage of votes. On the other hand, if NOTA is implemented with clarity, like re-election with new candidates, it can very much help strengthen the democracy of our country. The only downside is that it would be an expensive affair.

No question, NOTA has to be strengthened as you said. Even the way it is right now, NOTA has strong power, Imagine 60 out of 100 voted for NOTA, one candidate has 11 votes and the other has 10 votes, rest is divided.... Because the margin of win is so close and they know that they will have to win the hearts of the NOTA voters, they will have to come down from their palace and work their asses off to be safe next time. So it has no immediate effect but it has long term behavioural effect. I am not compromising my principles, ideology and values in the name of choosing the least bad, sure no-one is 100% good but saying 30% good candidate is better than 15% good candidate is not a good argument, my bar is high and I want 90% good candidate otherwise I am voting NOTA.....

I will still press NOTA. The reason NOTA is powerless is because not enough of us have ever elected NOTA. If even for once NOTA receives substantial votes in national level elections, then all of we citizens, SC, EC will rethink and re-question the political and democratic ecosystem of India. Full form of VVPAT is VOTER VERIFIABLE PAPER AUDIT TRAIL. But our Supreme Court neither allowing voter to verify their vote nor ensuring paper auditing trail. Then what's the use of VVPAT with EVM. Remove VVPAT and save tax payers money which will help our politicians.

Akash, your story makes sense. It's like if one candidate is a bahubali and the other has short reach and no power. But what if both candidates are evil? What if we know that if either of them wins, they'll make our lives a mess? So, I want NOTA to be there as an option. I agree that if NOTA wins, those two candidates should not be allowed to participate in elections for the next 6 years.

India is going through political crisis. Indian people need a new and strong political party. I have some suggestions for ECI: (1) If a politician changes his/ her political party, his/ her MP or MLA membership will be revoked and can't contest any political election for at least 5 years. (2) There should not be any provision for "independent" candidate. (3) There should be provision for an entrance examination which every aspiring politician should pass before filing nomination.
