What is autotune?

I was gonna say, the vocals and instruments sound great and you would certainly be hard pressed to find a modern act today that could sound as good live as they do in the studio.

@@davidlambert3892 If you've heard any pop or rap song in the past 25 years you've heard autotune used in various ways. Sometimes it's used to enhance weak vocals, sometimes change the sound completely.

Yeah... everyone's too flippin'' uptight now... whiners, everywhere! No fun to be found anywhere... not to mention not much heart, soul and musical "feel" to be found in rock and pop. There are great players around today... but sadly, they are not mainstream. The 80's had the best of rock and pop... vocalists who could truly sing live and in the studio, and guitarists who did not fall off of their fretboards when rides were needed. I've played music professionally for most of my adult life... including a LOT of cover bands. Out of all of the eras of music, the 80's were the most challenging to cover, and best of all, the most FUN! Again, no one cares about fun much any longer... they're too busy whining about everything they perceive as "bad" in the world. Bad thing about today's rock/pop musicians, they never do anything about what they whine about, yet they bust everyone's balls over issues constantly... only "hostess twinkie" whiners acting as if they're superior to everyone else for having whined so much. Not much fun in rock and pop now... only self-righteous hypocrites. Oh, and did I mention "whiners"? 😛 There will probably never be anything close to the 80's again. My .02 cents anyway!

Great improv on the piano. The original was synth. He just went with it. Hard to do and he pulled it off.

She's a good singer, with a good voice,....in my opinion, the music/songs scandal produced just wasn't good enough for her voice and ability. She was asked to join the mighty Van Halen but she turned them down. If she had join Van Halen together they would have done great on a bigger stage/scale.

I think she has a lot of charisma and a wonderfully strong voice for rock. She didn't have a lot of good material to sing, and her management was ... what it was.

Ha ha! I know. I see that word used so often to describe anyone that person likes. Someone described The Kinks as "way underrated". The Kinks! One of the most revered bands of the British Invasion. Ha ha ha!

Well said!! Patty Smyth's voice a long with excellent musicians in Scandal....WOW!!! Such a rockin' band!! Every single track on their first album is well written, well played and well produced. The entire band is so well polished. Bands like them DO NOT come around anymore...period!!! We were very lucky to have lived through the '80's and got to witness such incredible talent!! Thank you for sharing!! Aloha from Hawaii!!

@@funfreq9282 They would've wrote material for her...and I would've loved to have heard her voice paired with Eds gtr virtuosity...it would've worked and would've sounded even better than the stuff they did w/Sammy...who was and is at a level Roth will never or could never attain. With Patti Smyth on vocals they would've sold more records than with Sam and Dave combined.

Most of the guys in Scandal either were already, or soon became established New York session and live musicians. It shouldn’t be a surprise that they sounded this good. Back in the late 70’s-early 80’s, you had to be superb to get anywhere as a player, as the competition was all world-class.

They were great musicians. Look up who they played and recorded with besides Patty. And they toured constantly which gets you in great playing shape!

I saw Scandal and John Waite at Constitution Hall in DC and security made everyone stay seated and would remove you if you stood up and danced etc. so it probably wasn't the crowd's fault here. They sure responded at the end.

I think this is the same concert I went to in L.A. around 1981 or ‘82. It was a super small venue, they opened for Billy Squier. They were attempting to revive a Don Kirshner’s rock concert and filmed the entire concert. Tickets we’re given away for free. We got ours while attending another concert from some promoter. It was an awesome night. Crowd was def up and about when Billy came on.
