Tightening optics down on your SCAR is totally optional. As you can see here, Brandon has chosen to leave his loose as to dampen the impact of the heavy hitting .308 cartridge, thereby extending the life of his optic.

I neither own a gun (European here) nor am especially interested in them, but I've just subscribed to your channel because you are genuinely funny and passionate about your hobby.

I remember picking one of these up in 2012 from this shop in Hookset NH. 10 years later it’s still one of my favorite rifles.

The nice thing about the SCAR is that you can gets parts pretty easy for it. For instance, if your folding stock breaks you can head down to your local Home Depot and replace that door hinge.

I finally shelled out the money for a SCAR 17 in December. Got to take it to the range a couple weeks ago, and I love this rifle. Not gonna worry about the torture test results. Definitely my favorite battle rifle.

YES! My SCAR 17 is my "lambo" gun and definitely the crowning jewel of my gun safe. Not only is it a unique rifle but the way it handles recoil is second to none. Such a blast to shoot. Stay safe out there!

Hey thanks for sending me over to SDI. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, but now I'm going to be going into their gunsmithing program.

What I've noticed with my limited experience with the Scar-H (no experience with the civilian version) is the recoil on semi is FAR more manageable than you may think and the recoil on full pew pew is not quite as bad as I was expecting being a .308. Also the OOBE is quite nice overall. Do I have hundreds of hours of combat experience with one? I can't say I do but with my experience and what I DO know about the weapon system I would be willing to take it into combat even if just for a limited time.

I'm canadian. Last year I got to go down to Nashville with my buddy. The most memorable part of that trip was going to royal range in frankin and shooting a full auto ak and scar 17. It was so fun. First time going full auto and first time shooting something bigger and a .22

Hey Brandon, when disassembling the scar slap the lower receiver forward rather than levering it. It pulls the tongue out of the stock and you can pull straight out from there.

The scar and fal are my top 2 grail guns, well when it comes to semi auto. I'm more of a western gun lover ( colt Saa's and lever guns). Great content brandon !!

7.62 Ugg Boot Rifle

One rifle I’d like to see you do a deep dive into is the Ruger Mini 14. A favorite of fudds everywhere, fully California compliant without neutering, and operate not unlike an upside down AK.

I'M a battle rifle guy from head to toe. I was trained on the HK G3 way back when i served (i'm german, served in the 90's). One day our regiment shared the range with an american unit and i had the chance to fire an M16 A2 (standard drill, 20 rounds, varying ranges, pop-up man-silhouettes) and an M60. The M16 felt like a Super Soaker to me and i fucking fell in love with the M60 (the sheer sound of it, magnificent^^). Needless to say i shot "rifle expert" because the firing drills of u.s. and german forces couldn't have been any more different back then. Bundeswehr trained for accuracy with 6 rounds in the mag shooting at what i would translate to match targets (y'know from 0 to 10 points with an X in the dead center.) Shooting the M16 felt like no effort at all, like a toy gun. The SCAR-H looks like something i would love to shoot with and probably never will :(

I have both the 17s and then bought the 20s a week later. i really love the 17 better. The 20 seems like a baseball bat in comparison. great video. I added the ATN 4K PRO digital 5-15 scope to mine, you should try the scope out on a video.

Back in my days, I used FAL and FAL Heavy Barrel. God those were good rifles. Now want to get a SCAR 20s with a good sight but not enough money yet. I was really good shooting them, miss a lot.

I was going through some of you old videos and I found this one and as someone from Costa Rica I'm happy knowing that you are willing to come move here and it's true, they will not find you here, I know like 4 guys with the last Herrera and they are all from different families, the only thing that could give you away is that you are fluent in English and that you know stuff about guns

Think the issue was the first versions of the gun had problems in the field but they ironed that out and it's a really solid weapon.

After plenty of experience with building and shooting fal's I got a 17 its like a fal much lighter and 400% more accruate. I run a 1-6 Swarovski on mine.

Garandthumb did a video of it in the cold, a SCAR 17s, It was a magazine fit issue, solved in 2013-4, but Garand Thumb proved the recent models are okay in ice and frozen too. His recent videos are awesome in the cold tests. The modern rifles from FN have a bunch of updates that make the SCAR 17s more accurate as of 2022 models and have less recoil than any other year, plus it's lighter. The SCAR 20s has the most updates. Worth 6k, but FN is at a loss until 2024 for the new models. But the updates got approval. Check out the 2026 model that is 1/10 lighter, with a different barrel. FN, my hats off to this company. If they had this rifle model year 2022 in Vietnam, we wouldn't have lost so many young Americans. Russian war will require FN to pick up the pace buds. I think it's great if the stock is replaced with a lighter and tighter one with a compartment. I would take off a rail. Switch rifles for use of job then switch off all the components and lose the zero or comfort levels, tightness, or lose anchor points/attachment falls off! More than likely to will, we use balene wire in the Army to tie down our optics if there shot off. We did this in Iraq. Damn Soviet snipers.

I sold my Scar 17 about 4 years ago so I could get an M40A1. While I love that M40A1 I miss the scar17 so much cuz it was such a great gun. My round count before getting rid of it was right around 5k with only 3 failures. Two were ammo related and the 3rd was a weird one where the brass case didn’t eject and kind got stuck in the chamber. There was no claw marks on it or anything. Anyway, that was at about 1800 rounds and I couldn’t get it to do it again. Accuracy was good as it was always 1-3 MOA with cheap ammo and 3/4 with good ammo. My only issue with it was that it would shake my Larue QD optic mounts loose. I eventually got a non QD Spuhr and that held just fine. Still love that gun. I have a scar 20 now which is way more accurate but it’s heavy as hell and is more of a bench gun than a lightweight battle rifle.

I remember (poorly) watching a Shawn Ryan interview with a Chad Marine who recounted taking down a terrorist with one of these. What stuck with me was the smile on his face when he described how definitively it ended that POS’s day. He said it was gnarly.

First introduction to this was MGS4 which called it “Mk. 17” as it hadn’t been assigned “SCAR” when the game was being made. (XM8 was also big at this time) Then BF3 and 4. Good times. Wish Canada had better gun laws.

I wonder if the SCAR would be looked at differently if it were introduced nowadays instead of 10yrs ago. The new ones with non reciprocating charging handles and with the availability of optics that can stand up to the recoil I feel like it might be more widely accepted.

As a Belgian, I love the enthusiasm people have for the FN. Even though I personally have had no part in any design aspect of any gun for that matter, a part of me feels a lot of injustifiable pride that a country filled with soyboys was still able to come up with some of the more badass weapons. He was about to shit himself after seeing this SCAR-17. he examined the scar, took PMC's dogtag, checked it and the PMC had died to gluhar. His heart started pounding while running towards CP fence. He proned in the corner while staring at the extraction timer. He succesfully extracted with the SCAR-17.. and thats how he got it.

The amount of wobble that sight on the top had was just perfect. After all, the .308 isn’t made for accuracy.
