This whole affair screams some of Dan's favorite things: 1) A classic song 2) Dan can sing in the cadence of a Renaissance bard 3) Animation paired with music that has mythical creatures, stars a unicorn, and uses a style reminiscent of _The Last Unicorn._

I love how this animation uses the actual mythology of unicorns, especially for the end. Unicorns are the magical embodiment of life itself. And to give up that life is truly something sad. That forest dragon cannot breath life into the little things of the world like that dear Unicorn, but they can plant them and wait. Ugh, gods, I'm crying. (Knowing the mythology just makes this harder T^T)

The original folk song of Scarborough Fair was about politely telling an ex lover that they are no longer interested. Paul Simon came up with and made Canticle, an anti-war song, then blended the two together with his pal Art Garfunkel, in Scarborough Fair/Canticle. In effect, it tells the warmongers and people who love death and violence that we are no longer interested in their bull, and why. It’s one of the prettiest break-up songs with war itself that was ever made.

The amount of despair and fear in the dragons eyes as it dies is incredible, if i wasn't already ugly crying this would have made me do it

The way the dragon shakes her head as she fires off a giddy flame as she plays with the unicorn: it feels real and natural. The sheer amount of the emotion in the unicorn’s eyes as he lies with the dragon is powerful, and my heart beats with his eyes as he gazes at her. The consternation and heartbreak in the dragon’s eyes, looking about wildly as she suffers her fatal wound is mind-blowing to me. You can see it; you can really see it. You see it, and you can feel them in your heart. It’s in every frame, every blink, every turning of the head. The submissive, lack of belonging as the unicorn looks away from his herd members fighting. His eyes as he cries over the body of his lost love, his fear for the worst come to pass; it’s as though denying him pride or dignity wasn’t enough, that the others of his herd had to take even this from him. As his form goes alight, his expression is calm, touched with sadness; he’s made up his mind. And as he gently touches her snout, you see all his love, all his regret for what happened, all his yearning for things to have been different, and you feel his goodbye. The pensive way she touches the gift he left when she wakes, quiet, understanding, sad, with love still warming her heart even though he is gone. I may not know the meaning of the song itself, but the sounds of it and the story accompanying the video enchant me in ways I can’t explain. I don't mean to wax poetic, but if anyone who worked on this sees my comments, I just want them to know how it captivated me.

Between this, his cover of The Last Unicorn and Night Runner, I'm convinced Dan and all the art teams that work with him are trying to launch us into an 80s animation and storytelling revival. And I'm *here* for it.

The thing about the song is, it's not about actually successing in these impossible tasks. (You can't make a shirt without seams nor needle work) it's about trying to. It's about trying to do all this for the one you love, even when you know that you can't possibly succeed.

The biggest shame about this video is how hard it is to watch and appreciate it through the tears in my eyes.

Honestly the poor thing looked so confused and shocked. The animation and everything was gorgeous, I’m glad I looked this song up again and came back to this video. Dan: constantly reminding us that he sings like an angel

For those who don't know, this is a cover/rendition of Simon & Garfunkel's song by the same name and, personally, I like this version so much more. The original is slow and calming, this version is also slow and calming but feels like it tells a story; the pacing, the tone, and, paired with the animation, evokes emotion rather than just calmness. Especially comparing the line "generals ordered their soldiers to kill", the original line is sung more quietly and in the background, this version is more out in the open and evokes emotions in the listener, it tells a story with the way its sung here. In short, ya'll did an AMAZING job! I love it!

the creatures faces had so many emotions in them that just looked so goddamn real I am crying, the unicorn when it came back and saw the dragon and then the dragon when it was being attacked oh my goddd

When I was young and we had to write short stories in school the teachers would say "write what you know", and I knew I loved mythical creatures... so I would always write about unicorns, dragons, pegasus, mermaids, etc. The main story arcs would always include two creatures from differing species meeting and becoming friends against the odds. Often because both were outcasts. These are the stories I would write from grade 3-onward. I distinctly remember the one with a young winged-unicorn running away to the top of the mountain because the rest of the herd was mean to him... and that's where he met the dragon who was feared by everyone else. They ended up saving all of the creatures in the entire valley from some sort of evil threat. NEEDLESS TO SAY. Watching this made my mouth fall open, I was speechless, seeing something I had imagined over and over so many times for so many years come to life so beautifully through someone completely separate from me. While accompanied by Dan's voice... I just had the best cry I have had in ages. I immediately purchased the CD. You cannot have a moment of such pure and raw emotion like that and just continue on with your day. That was the most beautiful thing I have ever experienced. Thank you to everyone involved in it's creation.

Everyone talking about expressions and so on, but the way the petals of the flowers are moved by the air, by the beat of the dragons wings, or caught up in her breath . . . it's incredible. The animation is incredible.

This video still makes me cry so much, even when I know it's coming. Everything about it, the animation, the music, Dan's voice, it's just so beautiful.

I had to rewatch this because I didn't feel like I was emotionally and mentally prepared the first time.

I will say that hearing "generals order their soldiers to kill" just as the dragon was attacked was a life changing experience

Anytime my baby is have a hard time falling asleep or is in pain from teething I show her this music video. She drops everything to watch and listen. It's like she's studying this beautiful piece of art. No matter how cranky she is if I put this on for her everything else takes a back seat.

Every time I watch this, I feels like it takes something from me and gives something back to me.

Sure I get emotional about any animation, especially so majestically done like this. But this is something on a whole new level. Its so beautiful, vocally, artistry, and emotionally. Everyone who made it deserves so much more recognition and love.

I think I'm going to be sad forever after watching this, I actually can't get over it.

I love this song. It's really beautiful, wonderful, classic, and special. The song of Scarborough Fair fits well for the short film with the dragon and the unicorn when they met in the forest and formed a lovely bond of friendship. They even shared their talents of magic to make things grow till they eventually became friends. Then one day, the unicorn was out to get a lilac branch while the dragon was asleep, three of the other unicorns from her herd attacked him and one of them stabbed him in his heart with the horn. The poor dragon was dying in his wound. But before death, the dragon stood his ground and breathed his last fire to make those unicorns run away. He was dead. And when the unicorn heard the commotion, she raced back to her friend as quick as she could, but it was too late. She found her poor dragon friend lying dead with his blood spilling on the ground and it sadly broke her heart. In order to save the dragon's life, the unicorn used up all her magic to heal him and brought him back from the dead, and then the next thing, she was gone. When the dragon awoke at sunrise, he found himself healed and the plants right in front of him. He realized his friend, the unicorn, left them for him and and passed away. The unicorn could not lose him for the sake of their friendship, which meant she sacrificed herself to save the dragon. The dragon never forgot his friend as he planted the little tree and flower bush in the middle of the forest with magic. Magic, excitement, adventure, thrills, and friendship. I always love fantasy things and magical worlds filled with fantastic creatures, immortal beings, little people, and mystic figures. They fascinate me since childhood. There is nothing wrong a little believing. I never gave up believing in fairies and magic with all my heart because I still refuse to grow up and forget all those things I have know in my young life. I am like Peter Pan. I still hate getting old, which is terrible to look weak and ugly. Yuck! I wish to be a fairy that stays strong, childlike, young, and beautiful forever and ever like Tinker Bell (Peter Pan) and the blue fairy (Pinocchio). I love fairies and magic, always have and always will.

My favourite detail in this video is the unicorn's intentions as he went to grab the two plants they presented to each other when they first met. He couldn't even close his eyes to sleep he was so enamoured with her. It almost felt as though he went to pick the plants to grow them together to show their union, how their souls were entwined, and how they could continue to grow together. The sad irony being that after it all they're left in memorium instead just really hurts my heart. The fact that this rendition shares an even cut of true love and heart wrenching pain really makes me feel, and I appreciate it.

This wonderful animation reminded me of Osamu Tezuka, one of Japanese greatest cartoonists and animators. This work reminds me of the spirit of the world Tezuka created. It depicts the preciousness of life, the beauty and sadness of heart-to-heart communication that transcends differences in species, and it moved me to the highest level. Thank you so much.

2:11-2:12 almost feels like it should be the thumbnail. Bloody hellFIRE is this a gorgeous piece. This... This was shared by a friend who did indeed give a "FEELS WARNING" when he shared it with me, but... That warning was NOT enough. This hit hard on such a basic level that I'm still reeling a bit after the second viewing. I was *not* expecting this to affect me as hard as it did. Wonderful work. Exquisite, even! My dad used to travel around singing folk music. when he got married to my mum and had me he started to settle and decided to be a stay at home dad. I have so many memories of him singing this song to me and practising it for hours. I can't even begin explaining how much this song means to me and how much it means to me that you covered it. I don't know why, but this reminded me of a story that animated for public tv. it was about a songbird who took pity on man who wanted to take a woman dancing to ball, but she agreed on the condition he bring her a red rose. The songbird searched the valley, talking to each rose bush until she found a thorn bush absent of roses. The only way to bloom one in time was for the songbird to let the one of the thorns pierce her heart and sing with immense passion. Next morning, the man saw the red rose outside his window, and took it to woman he wanted to court, insisting she wear it on their dance, but she said it wouldn't suit her dress and that she found a more promising suitor who offered jewels. He calls her shallow, tosses the rose, forsakes love, and dedicates his life to scholarly pursuits, ignorant of the work put in by the kindness of a songbird. If anyone knows this story; please tell me the name of it.
