You can get everyone saved (kinda) and you can kill everyone. Some characters are insanely hard to keep alive and some have plot armor for 99% of the game but CAN die in the end. To save Chris: don't fail his quicktime events and make sure you get his relationship with Ashley high enough so she wants to save him. To save Josh: you need to find a specific clue as Sam before you encounter Josh in the mines.
