Hey bro - this exact same thing happened to me two years ago. Shingles on my forehead above my right eye that made it into my cornea and formed two rings blurring my vision. I thought I was going to go blind and the scary thing is, you can if you do not treat it. After seeing many eye doctors, I entered a trial study that was able to resolve it after a 16 month journey. What ultimately resolved the issue was a daily low dose of Valtrex and 1-2 drops of Inveltys over 12 months. Valtrex keeps the virus from flaring back up while the steroid chips away at the scarring. Be careful with the steroid you're using, Durezol was way too strong and made it worse. Don't quit early because the virus and the scarring can come back quickly. While I didn't make a full recovery, the scarring went from two full rings over my cornea to one small scar that is only noticeable at night while looking at lights (it creates a halo effect). Definitely a scary experience but I think you'll make a full, or close to full, recovery.

Get well, Jon. I've dealt with vision issues and it's scary. Luckily, my issues were just weird, one-off incidents and I'm fine, but I feel so bad for you, man. That said, I'm now going to getting my shingles shot.

I opened my eyes too much underwater one time and my vision in both eyes was so blurry it was as if I was looking through really foggy glass. Fortunately for me it cleared up with a day or two, but that was definitely crazy scary. We don't realize how much we appreciate stuff like sight until it's gone.

I’m glad it worked I had a weird issue 2 yrs ago I lost my eye sight for two weeks I woke up one morning and it was just gonna. I was scared out of my mine. Drs had no idea what happened a month earlier I hit my had but they didn’t think that would do it bc it wasn’t a major hit and it was month earlier. We had established I was blind. Then I woke up one day & my vision was back but everything blurry. They said I was lucky and I would need progressive glasses I got all setup to pay $540 for progressive glasses and then I woke up one day while the order was in and I paid half for them & my eyesight was back 💯 . No longer need r the progressive glasses but was out the deposit bc they were already in process & u know what i dc bc I fucking see I would pay the price again just for my vision. It’s so scary to think what it would be like without legs, arms, hearing or seeing. It gave me a new appreciation for sure & I go to the eye dr now twice a year just to make sure all is good & make sure it stays that way

My wife got shingles last year. I know how much patience this disease demands. On the other hand when you made it these hard times seems like a blink of an eye in your life. So don’t worry about the slowness as long as you don’t walk backwards. We all face to much stress on our modern life. Get well soon! ❤

I am sorry to hear about your illness. As a cancer survivor I can say to you that one of the hardest parts of handling a serious illness is learning to have patience as you recover. It is incredibly frustrating to be unable to do many of the things you used to do. Have faith that your body will heal and try to really enjoy the things and people who make you happy. Thank you for sharing your experience. It will surely help other people. I miss your tech videos but I know they will be back in time. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Jon, I was diagnosed with Ocular Melanoma three years ago (eye cancer). I am into tech and I can really relate to the vision issues when working from a screen is something I do 8 hours plus every day. My cancer will most likely be fatal in the end, so I have learned to count my blessings for every day that I am still here. Hang in there... and thanks for your wonderful videos.

Current optometry student (eye doctor school) here: if you ever want a second opinion, please feel free to reach out. Shingles can be a frustrating disease to assess and treat, but there are several new options to try if first-line therapy doesn’t work; I’m mainly referencing contact lenses, amniotic membranes, and of course surgical management if needed. Stay strong and if/when something doesn’t feel right, don’t wait. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Hey Jon! Had something similar (minus the shingles) a few years ago. Started with blurriness in the eye, got checked out, found corneal stuff and minor scarring. Went on a multiple week course of eye drops, including steroids and made a full recovery. Just want to say that you got this man!

Had a bad episode of gout at exactly this time of year last year - no doctors available right before Labor Day, and even when I had a diagnosis, there was nothing they could do. Put the phrase "health is wealth" into perspective for me. All this to say, you're spot on when you say you need to focus on what matters.

I know how scary that must have been for you. I'm blind in my right eye and have poor vision in my left eye due to glaucoma. This summer I started seeing a floater in my left eye and it turned out to be a retinal detachment. I had to have surgery immediately or else I'd lose that eye too. I've recovered from the surgery and doctors say everything looks good, but my vision isn’t the same. I'm hoping it will go back to how it was before and just needs more time to fully recover. I hope you're fully recovered soon and don't have any longterm effects!!

@@lenmancan you know when you push your cheek up, it partially obscures your field of vision? That's what I feel is happening all the time. It is a little more subtle but I always notice the partial obscuring of my vision

Sorry you’re going through this. I’ve recently been diagnosed with anxiety. And suddenly everything my life changed. Heart anxiety is really crazy. Literally thinking you’re having a heart attack multiple times a day is not fun. Health issues really as you said make the things we used to stress about feel so small. Glad you’re back. I have first hand experience over how serious and unsettling this can be as my wife has had shingles on her eye twice (including just 2 months ago - both resulted in hospital admission and both eyes closing up).
