I had a math teacher in school who looked like John Paul, this was at 1994-1995, everyone called him Scatman, so one day he came to class all dressed up like this man, shouting -I’m a Scatman! Everyone cheered, applauded and laughed like crazy. He was one of the best teachers ever. RIP Sven-Olof, RIP John Paul Larkin.

I know it’s sort of a joke song, but Scatman John actually had a pretty inspirational life. He was born with a stutter that made him too nervous to sing, so he played piano for most of his career. It was only in his 50s that he decided to become a scat performer and made this song as a way to inspire kids with stutters. It made him a worldwide hit, (especially in Japan for some reason) and he did two more notable songs before he died of lung cancer a few years later at 57. He was completely at peace when he passed, declaring: ‘Whatever God wants is fine by me ... I've had the very best life. I have tasted beauty.’ Scatman John. Legend. Ferghal Icious As far as I’m aware, a friend recommended him to do something fun. Scatman thought why not and did it to kind of make modern music at the time. And yes, he was an alcoholic as a kid so that’s why he hung out at bars playing piano :)

@@prince_nocturne Well, I was born in 1990, so I mostly remember the second half of the 90's (my earliest memory is from like 1994 watching the Lion King at a theatre, but it's pretty vague), but I loved most of it, not just the entertainment (even though that was the peak, same as the first half of the 2000's). Different people have different experiences, it also depends on what country did you live, what part of it (urban or rural), how well off your family was etc. I generally got it pretty good and I'm aware that's what partially formed my experiences.

@@hcsnake '84 for me. My earliest solid memory is from 1990. Watching tracer rounds flying out of Bagdad on the news as they covered the Iraq war. so yeah. The not-so-good parts. That said, we also got the amazing Ninja Turtles movie that year, so there were some great parts, too!
