The worst is that the images of the goblins charging in broad daylight have been used in many derivative products such as boxes of games workshop miniatures , stickers, actions figure etc.

I was annoyed they cut off many shots from the battle of Dagorlad. Including Gil Galad's death.

those were the goblins which were 5x more digital effect than the orc actors were. they were basically wearing big eye foam helmets and gloves that were detailed later

That would suck obviously, but still even just being on the set of the LoTR is probably one of the best things one can experience in life.

Dude they never wasted any time or money on the makeup of orcs. They just hired a bunch of blacks and poured ash on their faces.

@@brandonrodgers2492 Goblins and orcs are the same thing in Tolkien middle earth , just different name fir same creature they have a class system the lowliest orcs/goblins were called snaggas, the more elite goblins and orcs were better armed and drilled just like with humans you have those that are better at fighting than the ordinary person.

Pacing-wise it doesn't make sense to cram in another action scene after the Moria-sequence. The audience and the characters have just been put through some intense and emotional stuff, like Gandalf's "death", so it makes sense to me to follow that up with a slower and more introspective sequence, instead of another action set-piece

For real, as a child, I remember we didn't have any TV service, only a DVD player and we also had the complete LOTR trilogy as well. My brother and I watched them countless times. Even bingeing them 2 or even 3 times in a row sometimes. I literally just rewatched both the LOTR and The Hobbit trilogies yesterday too. I'll probably continue to watch them for the rest of my life. I ❤️ LOTR!💯

@@bahramsultan8310 Well then they can keep being tired, because we're not getting any new Tolkien adaptations anytime soon. Rings of Power is not Tolkien canon. Reason being, they don't have the rights to any of Tolkien's material from their chosen time period, which is The Silmarillion + appendices, Unfinished Tales, etc. They only have the rights to LotR and The Hobbit, and what is mentioned in passing there. They're making an entire show based on info from a few sentences. But, if fake stories with your favorite character/location names copied and pasted into the script is enough for you then by all means, enjoy.

Honestly I was never excited for this show, I was just happy to have more things to watch from Tolkien's Legendarium. Do I think this show will be good? No. Do I think I'll like it. No. Am I happy to see more Middle Earth related content? Yes.

Personally feel it looks forced with her alone down there defending against invaders. A scene with her and a handful of rohan warriors holding off, protecting the women and children until Eomer arrived would seem less forced. Always felt weird about theoden, his knights, aragorn and Legolas riding out in that scene. I was always like " damn, what about all those you were protecting behind those gates though " lol

No, it wasn't in the books, and it would have taken away from the story. Eowyn goes to extremes to ride and fight with the Rohirim, being jealous of the chance to die for her king in battle. If she was already some proven action hero, that would all have been pretty dumb. Also, she is like 100 pounds and female. A 220 lbs male Uruk Hai war machine would chop her to bits, let alone 20 at once vs her on her own. It was a ridiculous scene and I am glad it's not in there. You can enjoy that sort of stuff in the rings of power

Even in battle in the 2nd age, Elendil and Gil Galad laid siege to Barad Dur for weeks until Sauron was forced to come down and fight, to where he was ultimately defeated. Gollum does describe seeing Sauron's hand and it's missing finger so he may have had a physical body too.

It could have make an amazing nightmare for Aragorn, foreshadowing the battle at the black gate, trying to scare him into not attacking. Imagine to see him dreaming of Sauron reborn, crushing the last men, and nevertheless don't back down at the gates and charging on, into certain death. Goosebumps

The Eowen scene was absolutely ridiculous. The Uruk-Hai would've chopped her straight away.

I think an unarmored and lightly armed woman fighting seven foot armored Uruk-hai and winning would further diminish their threat. They already go down super easily in the battle scenes.

The Eowen scene should definitely have been cut. The reason being that Eowen in Return of the King is still upset that she is being treated as incapable compared to the men. She is still feeling undervalued, partly because she had to stay with the other women and children in Helms Deep. That is part of her motivation for disguising herself and riding out with them. If she’d already fought at Helms Deep then that would undermine her character arc. As for the Lothlorien attack, that would somewhat undercut Gandalf’s death. The fellowship (and audience) have just been through long and intense battle scenes throughout Moria, culminating with the death of Gandalf. The aftermath needed to be quieter, sorrowful and a contrast and change of pace leading into the Galadriel meeting. Another action scene was unnecessary and would have diminished the flow of the movie. Basically, both of those scenes are ones I think definitely needed to be cut and shouldn’t have been included.

A lot of these shots were for b-roll takes and still images. They weren’t meant for the final film, necessarily. If they made it in they probably would have been sped up and made more exciting

If you watch the battle at the Minas Tirith gates where Gandalf says "No matter what comes through that gate you will stand your ground" at the end of that sequence you can see the Easternlings charging in, in the background. Blink you'll miss it moment but they're still in the movie

True, when orc grappled his sword hand he didn't hesitate to give him a left hook and good old Leonidas kick. That would be shoving a spesific moment in battle where the walls are contested but still holding Although it's epic I also see the movements might seem a bit too janky and larplike

This guy and the Gondorian soldier that jump spears an Orc at the gate of Minas Tirith are the only two that actually show initiative and manage to succeed on screen. Most of them get knocked down or cowed by their enemies in the movies. I suppose this is to up the ante, but it makes no sense from the books where the Rohirrim and men of Gondor basically fight against overwhelming numbers and manage to do a lot of damage despite their numerical inferiority.

As already said by others, the goblin attack would have taken away from Gandalfs death and there was an extremely long action sequence just before that scene would take place. The movie needed a quiet scene, and the books had that too. In the books, the Elves destroyed the goblins, but it was only reported to the fellowship.

I think it's heavily implied Sauron had physical form. Gollum, having been questioned by Sauron, mentions that he only had four fingers on his ring hand etc.

They could've made him squeeze the life and the power of the rings out of his servants The Nazgul, to give him enough power to create a temporary physical form.

I think PJ left it out because it would have deviated from the books too much and I agree with that. They still used the footage they shot and just CGI'd a troll on top of Sauron's movements. They also did this completely in post-production because Viggo Mortensen was not available to reshoot that scene.

@@UserJWR That scene (and the battle in general) always felt a little bit odd to me. Aragorn looked so extremely terrified, like he absolutely knew this would be his end, even though it was "just" a troll. His expressions make way more sense in this version. Just like how the confrontation at the gate makes way more sense with the mouth of sauron scene included.

The Sauron Reborn scene could have played out as a nightmare, trying to scare Aragorn not to attack the back gates

That would've been an interesting addition. I've always wondered if something like that could've happened.

@@Catwhisper175 Actually Sauron in the books did have a physical form even by the time of the Lord of the Rings, the ''Eye of Sauron'' was more a metaphor for his overreaching power rather then a literal flaming eye. He required to Ring to achieve his full power but he very much had a physical form. Sauron fighting in battle was cut because it both wasn't in the original book and second it took away for what Aragorn and his friends were doing which wasn't to have some big epic showdown with the main bad guy but rather serve as a distraction to allow Frodo the time to destroy the Ring.

Even in the battle of the last alliance, Elendil and Gil Galad laid siege to Barad Dur for weeks and forced Sauron to confront them to where they defeated him. He wouldn't risk it, and he definitely feared Aragorn as Gandalf mentions many times, that the rumour of a Descendant of Elendil still lives and poses a threat.

@@kyleenglot9184 They sieged Barad Dur for seven years, not just weeks. Sauron fears Aragorn mostly not because Aragorn is an excellent fighter, but because he could rally the Free Peoples under one banner, but you're right that Sauron wouldn't fight at the Black Gate.

Yeah so originally after Aragorn says "send word for the women and children to make for the mountain pass" Gamling got them out, but the Rohan mother that was shown throughout the movie (her kids are the ones that escape during the sacking of villages) was pregnant so Eowyn stays to help her give birth. And the Uraks get in after the cavalry ride out of Helms Deep. If you look closely at the scene where Aragorn and Eowyn reunite after the battle it's actually a recycled take from a scene that was never used where Eowyn greets Aragorn right when he arrives at Helms Deep, she was gonna greet him even before Legolas did. But as originally filmed Eowyn was going to have her fight in the caves and then Aragorn was going to show up after the Uraks were driven off into the forest. U can actually still find a quick 2 second shot of their original reunion in the caves

That scene is totally something they would've done for the new stupid amazon prime lotr, and would realistically never happen in real life, buy I will say this, neither would it be all that plausible for same to take out some bigger orks and yet he slaughtered them, so why couldn't they have filmed it In a way that didn't seem to unrealistic, like maybe a unnamed soldier saved her at last minute cuz she obviously couldn't do it? It's still a small plot hole that always irked me because I imagined the urak Hai would've followed them in to the caves

I think it would have undermined her character arc somewhat and weakened her decisions in The Return of the King

Fellowship: Arwen saying goodbye to Legolas Two Towers: The Uruk watchman Return of the King: Fighting on the Mumakil corpse Most of them are cut for a reason and the more major scenes would have a negative impact on the films overall in my opinion. The Lothlorian ambush, gollum Frodo, Eowyn fighting and Sauron at the black gate especially would have weakened the films and were good cuts.

Some of the scenes were cut because they were bad and didn't work.

It could be Ithilien since Legolas settled in Ithilien after the quest. But there is another possibility. In the books, when Aragorn-Legolas-Gimli went to the Fangorn Forest, Legolas was really fascinated by there and wanted to hang out there but they didn't have time for that. In the Helms Deep Battle, Gimli really liked Helms Deep Caves and wanted to hang out there but they didn't have time for that either. So Legolas and Gimli promises each other to visit the Fangorn Forest and the Helms Deep once their quest is finished. So if those footage is from the epilogue, Legolas may be in the Fangorn Forest and Gimli is in Helms Deep Caves.
