The speech at the end is something else. Pacino got an Oscar for this, and some people said it was a consolation prize for all the times he didn't get one, but I say the performance was oscar-worthy by itself.
@jamesoblivion3 ай бұрын
I also think he earned the Oscar on the merits of this performance. But I think Al got it into his head that they gave him Best Actor for all the yelling he did in this one. He started yelling a lot more after Scent of a Woman. 😆

@@jamesoblivion He's got a GREAT SPEECH ... and you got your head ALL THE WAY UP IT!!!!

Truth is, Pacino, great actor that he is and was, had a giant slump in his career for a long while. This was his comeback movie. If you don't believe me, listen to the natural raspiness in his voice, as opposed to his earlier works. Michael Corlenone versus Ricky Roma in Glengarry Glen Ross, even when he's speaking calmly.

No, the ending of the Italian original is a thousand times better. In the original film, the blind man tries to keep the woman away throughout the film, but in the final scene he falls and asks for help, and she goes to help him, and there's an incredible dialogue there. The American version is the classic exaggeration, with Ferraris and other bullshit. ps: yes, this is a remake.

After so many years, this movie is as good as gold. This movie teaches you one thing, that every once in a while people need to be given a pat in the back and told, that "your doing okay and you are loved" cause it's true. Hands down to this day my most cherished movie. Loved your reaction and the outfit.. Cheers.. 🥂

One of my favouite movies. I seen it in the cinema when it came out. As it went on, I wasn't sure what to make of it, but by the end, I was sold!! Still love it to this day, 32 years later!!! Yeah, I know! A very young Chris O'Donnell. and a completely unknown, and young Gabrielle Anwar. Pacino's monologue at the end was amazing, of course. (His whole performance was incredible). And there were many other touching moments in this awesome movie. However for me, the most emotional moment was when Slade reaches out and touches/sees Charlies face. He does it off his own back. All his other aides/assistants (whether he was blind or not) were faceless. He chose to see, and remember what Charlie looked like. Also, you look amazing. Dressing like this really suits you (again, just my opinion), and I'm glad you enjoyed the movie.

This is a movie I recall seeing way back when in the 90s, and several times since. Some great actors doing great work here, and the writing is excellent. Based on the 1974 Italian film Profumo di donna, based in turn on an Italian novel. Profumo di donna was nominated for Best Foreign Film and Best Adapted Screenplay at the 48th Academy Awards. Scent of a Woman was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay at the 65th Academy Awards, with Pacino taking home the gold. And well deserved...this performance really hit me. Still does. The headmaster is played by James Rebhorn, a ubiquitous character actor who seemed to show up in everything, particularly in the 90s. I always liked to see him, whether as a good guy, a bad guy, or a neutral third party. A prime example of a great That Guy. You'll see him in movie after movie, and you'll always be like 'Hey, it's that guy!' 😆 RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman 😞

First things first, Trixie Blue, I would like to say how stunningly elegantly beautiful you are in your dress and make-up! Your efforts did not go to waste. Next, love your reaction! In fact, the moment you described your expectations about this movie, I instantly began to smile from ear to ear. I got hooked and excited about how you would react to this Classic. I am impressed by how you remained composed and invested, knowing it's going against your assumptions. Still, you did very well. I loved your reaction because I had the same experience when I watched it 32 years ago. Especially during that time, all the trailers would highlight the tango scene! But thank goodness it also focuses on Al Pacino, with whom I am familiar. So, at least, I was also expecting some stellar performance from Pacino. This movie never gets old. A bitter, mean, blind man meets an honest young man both undergoing a crisis of their life and how their friendship saved each other. Again great job, Trixie Blue, and best wishes!

The outfit looks great! Very elegant. Kind of goth chic! I love it! This obviously wasn't what you remembered it as. There's probably a few movies that could be what you were describing. Made me think of Francois Truffaut's "The Man Who Loved Women". Truffaut is probably not on your radar yet. Very famous French Filmmaker, that had been a writer and film critic, and then went on to be one of the main directors that lead the French New Wave of film in the 50s and 60s. Stephen Spielberg put him in "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind" as an actor in the 70s, as a tribute to him, but not used to being just an actor, apparently he got bored not having as much to do, so sitting around in his down time while shooting, he wrote "The Man Who Loved Women". Honestly, it's been so long since I've seen it, but it sounds like the kind of thing you were talking about. As much as I can remember anyways. "The 400 Blows" was Truffaut's directorial debut though, and a pretty iconic movie, might want to check it out.

Nicely done. One comment: you said that university students should know better. They aren't in university. It's a high school level boarding school. College prep. Some trivia: For the inquest scene, they hired a lot of extras to be the students in the audience. My nephew answered a casting call and he's somewhere in there. If you ever see 'True Lies', Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tia Carrere dance a tango to the same song. Gabrielle Anwar (Donna) had a leading role in the TV series 'Burn Notice'.
