I built a CHEAP, DIY Pond... It has BIG Goldfish in it!

I have a snapping turtle, last winter I got him feeder gold fish, he ate every one within 12 hours except one, that is still alive and well coexisting. They've grown to be friends and Goldie eats the dead skin and nasty stuff off rex, just wanted to share, maybe you should get a snapping turtle!!!!!

I didn't think I would be as attached to him/her as I am, I morally know it's wrong but I give him a better life than most have in the wild, and someday in the next couple years I will release him, just a cool creature, could literally sit and watch him all day

Brother you inspired me to build a pond in my backyard. It is 25 ft long by 15 ft wide. It is also 4 ft deep in the deepest part ant 1.5 ft in the shallow end. I also converted a 60 gallon food grade plastic drum into a filter. Thanks for making great 👍 ☺ 😊 videos. The videos were a great help. Cheers

So I came here because our sweet, sweet comet is already this size (the one you said is as big as your hand). I don't have room in our house for a bigger tank, so I was trying to see how I could build him a cheap place, outside and ended up on this video. I am very thankful because I can and will ABSOLUTELY build this for him. We've had him over 3 years, now, and we have quite a few pets and he is so dear to us, but I want to make sure he's in the best place for him.

Man I wish I had a bait shop like that around me in Pennsylvania. Most bait shops my way don’t even have minnows this summer. Well the one that are even still open that is!

Could just get some cedar fence boards and just build a box around the filter and you can do the same around the pond. It would look really nice and the boards will last a long time

Glad to see someone else coming to some goldfish's rescue. I did something similar with some comets that I now have in a 125 gallon tank with some fantails. Goldfish number 7 from what I saw he almost looked silver and black, so Panda might be a good name for him. Or as white as number 8 looks Casper might be suitable for him. Would like to see that other DIY filter video. Stay Fintastic Zac!

You need to put a sponge filter on the inlet side for two reasons. 1 bio media. 2 it will keep your fish from being sucked into it.

This is so cool! I'm new to the fish keeping hobby, and it's due to my kids winning some commet goldfish from the fair recently. They're tiny right now but I know they'll get bigger and this is definitely something I'd be interested in doing to give them more space when they're bigger. (But we couldn't possibly have a giant tank inside our house!!!) Thanks for this!!!❤️❤️

Wow $2 a goldfish what a deal! For a size like that it would be in the upwards of $20 per fish here in California! Just got some koi for $18 each and they're about 1/2 inch long. Anywho 💜 the filtration video will definitely make mine for my koi pond! Thank you!!

You should definitely think about fantail goldfish in the future. Hardy like the common one when compared to the other types of fancy goldies and they won’t get as humongous as the common one. The commons will get as big as tilapia on a couple years.

Love the goldfish! My choices for names: 1: Anaranjado (Spanish for orange-colored), or Ana for short, 2: Snapdragon, 3: Sunny (I think this is the one Cathy Hendrix meant, and I agree), 4: already has the most suggestions lol, 5: Tiger Lily, 6: Creamsicle or I also like Natali Turnbull's idea of Peach, 7: Cliff Garstka's suggestion of Jeri Ryan is awesome, 8: Nilla or Vanilla, and last but not least, 9: Big Chief as per Bonaskei's Adventures. So some originals, and some votes for other people's suggestions. Great video!!

Hello thanks for showing us how to build our own filter, I wanted to ask you what I'm I doing wrong the water gets yellow very quickly every time I clean the filter like in 5 days starts changing color, is it the food or something missing on the filter, I have a 300 gallon pound with 12 Koi and goldfish. Thanks in advance for your input!

I am sorry to say....but the gold fish you have will grow to be 12 - 18 inches long. The rule of thumb is 1" of fish per gallons of water. I have a 3X5X2 foot in ground pond with 4, 7" goldfish, and in the spring, my pond will be going bigger. The fish are all beautiful, and my favorite is the one with the black stripe on it back.

Hi, I’ve just found you and subscribed. You said you were going to show how to build a “prettier’ version of the filter system for this patio pond but I can’t find it anywhere. Can you direct me to where I may find it please? I set up a bog filter for my pond but would like to try your version for my next pond. I’m also keen to set up a simplified fish tank inside so will be scouring your videos for one of those. Have you done a video for basic novices like me on how to set up a tank and what kind of maintenance you need to do? Other bloggers I’ve looked at make me go cross-eyed listening as they complicate it too much. Cheers from a granny in Australia.

Hi Zac even though this video is 2 yrs old I came across it looking how to setup above ground 300 gal rubbermaid stock tank for my fish, like how you setup this 110 gal pond. I need netting but can't find anything to hold it to the tank. At 7:48 you mention hooks you used to hold net down, did you say command hooks? Wish could have seen them up close. Where can i get these hooks? My rubbermaid pond is ready but can't find hooks for netting. Love all your fish tank setups! Please reply if you see this...Your helping so many people with great ideas~

I lost a koi a few years ago when it jumped out of the pond so the net is a great idea! My prediction is that the black patterns on most of the goldfish are gonna slowly disappear and they will be mostly gold and white. Name goldfish number 1 "Columbus" because he was first to discover the pond!
