Thanks Ryan! This one was a challenge to play, pressing down two strings instead of one... and they're different sized too ahaha. It definitely is a fun challenge though and the sounds that this thing make turn my surroundings tie-dye ;P.

@@LowEndLobster you can set some of the octaved 8 basses up where you can adjust the individual strings in the pairs for your best playability; there is a LOT of talk about pairing string sizes and how the playing and tone is effected by how you set up your string pairs on progressive discussions on both 12 guitar and 8 string bass forums (most common octaved platforms, there's less common octaved arrangements, but they're only partial, like 8 and 10 string guitars, commonly seen configured in several popular Taylor acoustics and the BC Rich Rich Bich, respectively), personally, once I had an octaved bass (why not a 10 string, go higher on the 5th string and double it - push the register upward at first for playability till we understand string pairs well enough to start throwing low pairs made of transatlantic cables on there lol) I would be playing with tunings to see if I could up the sitar/sympathetic tone game and try to generate beat frequencies between string pairs so I get some heterodyne lovin before even laying a finger to fret. I'm that guy that needs 5 of these because they'd all be set up different and if I had another musical idea bout 8 string bass, I'd need to buy another two because ideas to me are like beers, it's never just one lol

Thanks Michael! I actually traded my ESP Bunny Brunel for this. The ESP was a great bass, but was not getting a lot of playing time because it was just another review bass pretty much. I may have taken a slight value hit, but now I actually have an 8 string and an instrument that brings something truly different to the table compared to my other ones. That's why this has stayed in my stable for so long and will probably continue to stay there.

Hahaha, yes :). This bass is worth it for the mind altering experiences it brings ;P

If I leave a case open at least once cat will try to crash in it. I don't care - if you have any sort of air movement around, cat hair is not the same thing as a dusty environment with particulates that electronics to not like. And if the cat hair was the problem, it's easy to debug with eyeballs and a vacuum cleaner. :-) It brings me comfort that they come in with me when I am playing and sit on my things and just chill. It means that they feel safe and comfortable and that makes me feel like out of all the other stuff I abjectly fuck up for everyone around me, at least I can do that one thing and make a cat feel safe. Bleh. I know why a caged bird sings, but more importantly I understand why many DON'T. Keep singing even when you don't feel like it because at least people will hear you, so you are seen and if you can be seen, then you are real.

@@LowEndLobster needs old analog effects like a original rotovibe and a fuzz wah (I am still looking forward to see what happens when I start plugging basses into the Weeping Demon), I mean MU TRON. Okay. All you probably need is one of those Mutron things that has all the colored buttons on it including a shiny pedal to gas it with to unzip the tops of everyone's heads and head back to what the summer of 69 was supposed to be instead of what it actually was (see: Vortex Festival, Oregon oregonencyclopedia.org/articles/vortex_i/#.X1JtVXlKiUk)

I just had to follow up on this with some thoughts about this bass's "normal" sibling, the Schecter Stiletto Studio 4. I ended up buying one not long after I posted this comment, and while I initially liked it (its feel, playability and tone are excellent), there were three absolute dealbreakers for me (two of which were directly related to each other). First, there was bad wiring on the pickup selector, causing it to short out if you turned it all the way to one pickup or the other. That could've been fixed, but there's also a really bad design flaw on the Stiletto Studio: it has no active/passive switch, and the battery compartment is terrible. It has a screw-on plate, and the batteries are stacked on top of each other, packed into an extremely tiny cavity making them impossible to get out without a tool of some kind, and fairly difficult even *with* a tool. (I had to use a computer "spudger".) If a bass is *only* active, and the batteries are nearly impossible to get out, how can you possibly trust playing it on a gig? Is that why it has "Studio" in the name? Anyway, I ended up returning that bass to Sweetwater and buying a Fender American Ultra Jazz Bass instead. The Jazz isn't perfect either but it definitely does not have the issues the Schecter did.

@@LowEndLobster I'm actually still rounding up feelers on that the Apocalypse you showed. Ever since I got a legit green guitar that everyone kept thinking was black, I've been on a kick about not just ash (but it's usually ash) but guitars that have these moss-ish colored greens that can appear even darker or more monochoromatic in color until you light them up and they just ooze the darkness - I mean, I've never seen darkness flash off a tiger eye finish until that green one ('92 Starfield Altair SJ Custom, Fujigen built, it's twin that has a "cherry" finish looks like it was literally dipped in fresh blood, which also throws some darkness in the light but it seems to drip a little instead of ooze a lot when it gets lit up)...anyhow. Slate-ish colors, STONE GREEN I guess? Moss colors. Mold colors (oddly enough look really great on a guitar but hella repugnant on bread)..whatever the gray/green/black precious stones are? I can't really put a finger on it but again, it's like trying to explain why you like that 8 string bass to someone who can hear but has never heard music. I still want to get a slab of cheap walnut to roast and finish to see what happens. That roasted ash body...it's getting to where I don't even like PAINT on my instruments lol but I know if the clear coat was not on the french horn it would corrode like fuck and stink like hell, because SPIT MOLD YUCK

I am plucking both strings together (or at least trying to haha). Tuning is tedious but not hard. First you tune the bass strings, and then you tune the guitar string to its bass counterpart. That's how I do it anyways.

It's a bit more difficult, and you have to be a lot more aware of the pressure you put on the frets because you're pushing down two strings with drastically different girths. It also wears me out a bit on the pluckin side. My guitar player friend played this a few weeks ago with a pick and he was able to get a much more consistent sound out of it vs finger plucking.

Does have a a good sound. I like EMG for certain applications and this is definitely one of them. Get over there played with the flatpick so I was impressed at how clean everything sounded with just fingers. These Really shine when you start playing Hard Rock with a little distortion and maybe a touch of Reverb. Going to say your kitty has the markings of a Maine Coon but not the size I was curious what kind of cat😢 it is
