Yep, he was faster, can go early on the gas, had more control and a safer line. If there was oncoming traffic he wouldn't have to change his line. You can clearly see, the moment he sees the exit, he hits the apex and goes full throttle. Very difficult to keep up with this guy I can asure you ;-)

That's a sarcastic response to "why you should turn when you see a hairpin turn" no to how to take them. See this example, it's like the difference between making a funny comment and making a fool of yourself in a comment. Seems similar but there are differences.

i acted like the 3rd guy a few days ago and missed a car by only a few inches, thought I was good until realised I had ended up on the whole other side of the road, staring at cars coming toward me. Swerved back onto my side of the road and In a panic, hit the curb, dropped my bike and scratched my fearings. I was lucky I was riding with mate and he helped me pick the bike up, this turns up at the top of my KZfaq feed today and I think I’m being told something. it’s an important skill, and not one to overlook, and it’s always useful to practice turns in an empty parking lot or something. I’m an inexperienced driver and I got too confident. Drive smart, not fast, and if you ever have an accident, make sure you learn from your mistakes, because I believe everything happens for a reason, and maybe it’s the only way you’ll learn, besides, you’ll never really know when it might just save your life. Drive safe out there.

Oh dear, - start the turn wide, go wide of the apex so you can exit tight. Maximise your turn radius. If you cut in on the apex you will exit wide. There's usually marbles on the inside of the bend, cars and trucks sweep debris there, avoid that area.

@@redpilledpatriot8484 all three bikes here do start wide but then cut into the apex and the last two exit wide into path of oncoming. My point was, "it you cut into the apex". Here I take a very tight hairpin which the car ahead cannot negotiate. The turn is as tight as a 180 turn in a two-lane road. The apex and exit is covered in wet leaves. Note UK drives on left but road is single lane, use the whole road but right of way is on left. The leaves on the exit disguise a pothole I had to dodge. As for oncoming traffic - use your eyes and ears - which is where a soundproof helmet is a complete fail. If you try cutting the apex on this one you'd be riding up the bank on the exit. My bike is RE500, fwiw a GL1800 cannot make the turn and has to use the dumb-bell. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eMplZdx6y8C1iok.html

45 yrs of no accident riding says if that is a 2 way road with a vehicle coming the other way: first rider did ok, 2nd rider was pushing it, and third rider was an accident looking for a place to die. Because the driver coming the other way as often as not will NOT take that curve wide, and many times are also going too fast to stay on their side of the road. They ARE out there to get you, intentionally or not, and you cannot forget that if you plan to ride for decades.

@@cliveadams7629 If there is a massive Magirus-Deutz log lorry coming up (and they are common) it will use the whole road and they do not give way. But they're slow and the bikes would see and hear it coming. Remember that all other road users are deliberately trying to kill you. On these bends you give way to traffic going up. You do not try to cross on the bend. You do not try to stay tight to the kerb or you get into all sorts of problems. If the road is clear you use the whole road but try to exit in your correct lane.

All three cut into the apex. It is the steepest part. The road drops away, the front wheel goes light and you come off. You feel the front go light and so you straighten up and so you go into the wrong lane on exit. From there you're trying to tidy up instead of being set to open up again.

If you practice the turn by running into the opposite lane then you will never make the turn if there is traffic in that lane. If you practice the turn while staying in your lane then you should be able to make the turn regardless of the condition of the other lane. I don't know what IAM is, but if they are advising you to use an oncoming traffic lane to perform a simple turn, in ANY situation, then I think either: A : you misunderstood what they were saying B : the IAM instructor is a garbage rider also, or C : IAM courses aren't worth taking, because they are giving garbage advice. Someone please tell me when you counter lean, counter steer or just go all in one way. When I ride dirt bikes I just turn and counter lean. But I’m moto gp they are all one way. I know it’s dirt and pavement but what’s the difference?

So...I get it. You just swing out into the opposite lane, then dive in close to the corner and exit into the on-coming traffic while hoping that no one is going the other direction...easy peasy!
