It's a good time to be in to hifi. I use the Freya S to Schiit Vidar into Magnepan .7. Sounds lovely. I really like the remote. Just feels good in the hand. That's $599 USD, best value! Nice review. Only reason I didn't get the + model is I use a analog tube phono preamp and didn't want the extra tubes.

The Freya + has addressed a couple of the issues mentioned, starting with the ability to shut off the tubes by switching to passive or multi bit mode. The pre-amp runs incredibly cooler from the previous model (although it still gets hot when running tubes after a couple of hours). The second improvement is the remote and the volume control are now in sink when using them the remote. Unfortunately, its difficult to know volume by looking at the dial. I placed a red dot on the volume dial that helps with this. The only really outstanding issue now is the power switch location on the back of the unit. It’s really good product and rolling tubes is fun. Great video by the way!

You have convinced me, great video! I'm ordering a Freya+ to go with my Threshold Cas 1 amp this week. I think it will give me exactly what my system is lacking.

I got the Freya+ a few months back and I pair it with the Jeff Rowland 125 power amp and it is a lovely combo. I am very happy with this pairing of tubes and solid state.

That was a good sounding combination. The preamp made the music sound alive.

Yes. I think valve pre/solid state power is the way I’m heading

@@dittonworks Yeap that is the best combination.Valve preamp will give dimension and colour to the sound while ss power amp will keep the details and bass quality as i have read in many articles,,,

I currently have the Schiit Saga with the Tungsol 6SN7 valve. I love it. II am hoping to get the Freya Plus if it ever returns to UK distributor soon.

As of 1st qtr 2023, the Freya + ships with tung sol 6sn7GTB. These are a step up from the cold and vanilla JJ tubes. Sylvania or NOS Electro harmonix gold pins are many notches better. Note to the haters: Schiit audio doesn't stagnate. They constantly improve year to year. The Freya+ is great, and a vast improvement to the OG and the nova.

What were the tubes used? The 2 on the right definitely weren't stock. Thanks. Mike

Another nice review! Once you had the 507 why didn't you try to find and match it with the 502 which also have balance input's?

Sounds really wonderful. I’m in this dilemma, having a decent new power amp with my integrated posing as a pre atm. Was thinking about a tube pre, this might have helped me settle into getting a Freya +. Can I ask, what tubes were you using there?
@dittonworks2 жыл бұрын
I’m really sorry I can’t remember what they were.. only had it for a day or two. Valve pre and SS power is definitely a good combo

Hi, can you use the Freya as just a buffer? and what do you think of tube buffers. Thanks
@dittonworks2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t see any point in using the Schiit as a buffer? In my opinion keeping the signal path simple and clean as possible is best.

@@dittonworks Some people say Freya sounds edgy?Does it sound too sharp?
@dittonworks2 жыл бұрын
@@beslemeto I would say in my opinion, yes, a little bit. However I think with carful valve/tube selection you could remedy that.

I owned a Freya but it acted as a microphone when using the valve stage. Tried different valves but that didn't work and in the end the distributor took it back off me ( much to my surprise )
@Nick-sk1qp2 жыл бұрын
The new Freya + has addressed the microphonic issue with it’s current model. It’s dead quiet now.

@@Nick-sk1qp Shame they didn't get it right the first time!

Are Schiit components considered rubbish? I think they are a great value for money company. They set out to make affordable stuff that doesnt completely suck...they know and dont try to be more than that. They are very open about that. But...maybe they are more expensive where your at...in which case I can understand people feeling they are not worth the money. :) What tubes are you using in the gain?
