"Schism" from Tool's "Lateralus" album (2001).
I honestly never thought I would cover this song. But yeah, here it is. A cover of the most popular Tool song. A song most of us got sick of after 10000 replays, but we love it anyway. I like how 99% of all tabs (except for CoverSolutions) get the intro wrong. I'm talking about starting with a 3 on the D string during the first chord at 0:12. But anyway, I didn't really changed that much when you put it up to the CoverSolution tab. Some minor changes really.
Some important information that nobody is going to read.
Tuning : D-A-D-G
Artist : Tool
Bassist : Justin Chancellor
Album : Lateralus (2001)
Song : SCHISM
Bass : Warwick GPS Corvette 5A Ash

It’s wild, all you ever see are people teaching the main riff but nobody ever shows how insane the whole song is, that riff is just a small part. Such a fav to play, my all time favorite bass line is the bridge at 4:40
@LeoBassCovers2

Agreed. I also think 2:24 is quite a cool riff. So disgustingly powerful, especially after all those higher notes.

@@LeoBassCovers2 hey Leo- no it’s great. I meant your comment about most of the tabs are wrong showing the barred 3rd fret (high d and g strings) for the 2nd part of intro. My point was my original tab from 2001 had it that way and so does my 11 year old video. 😀 I’m not sure why all the other tabs that showed up since got it wrong. Outstanding job, as always!

Heya Leo. So I have a Warwick 4 string (basically the same exact as yours active pickups etc) , the cheaper version ( i assume you have the german made one by the sounds.) I'm wondering how you set your blends on the knobs to achieve that gorgeous jangly tone. Mine always seems too thin or too too muffled. Amp settings are important too, but something is telling me im kneecapping myself by having the actual bass tone sounding shitty going into the plugin im using (neural DSP which is pretty well regarded) Any help to get that clear yet resonant tone?

@LeoBassCovers2 3 жыл бұрын
Hmm... It's been quite some time since this video came out. I think I actually just left every knob on neutral (in the middle where it clicks) for this video like I did with most Tool covers. I definitely used new strings in this video which is why the tone is so bright. I also used 2 different amps (bass amp and guitar amp), similar to Justin. But yeah, no specific settings for the knobs.

Do you use guitarpro for the tabs?
@LeoBassCovers2

Guitar Pro 7 for making the tabs, Go Playlong 4 for syncing them and having them in the video like this :)

None actually. It's all digital so it was just a distortion plug-in I think.

I’d never played bass in my life before yesterday. I’ve played guitar for 5 years. I sight read tab for schism and played it within 3 minutes. Bass easy. Bass

@@636op-- Bass is absolutely nothing like guitar, except for the notes on the fretboard... The mindset behind the instrument can send a song into the stratosphere or dump it along the side of the road as trash... A few subtle nuances of a great bass line can hinge on timing, and how, or where on the fretboard the played notes best compliment the song.. 12 notes makes it simple right ?? Not by a long shot..the more simple it appears to be, the more difficult it is to actually make it look simple. A live drummer to rehearse with is best learning tool a bass player can ever have.

@@bryanhoyler7947 Physically it’s basically the same thing. So yes; he will have a easy time playing a song following a bass cover if he already has experience playing the guitar. I’m not saying you’re wrong I’m just standing by what I said to the guys that thinks that guitar is better than bass.
