Schlummert ein, ihr matten Augen, Fall into [death’s] slumber, you languid eyes, Fallet sanft und selig zu! Droop gently and blissfully shut. Welt, ich bleibe nicht mehr hier, World, I will remain here no longer; Hab ich doch kein Teil an dir, I have indeed no share in you Das der Seele könnte taugen. That could be fit for my soul. Hier muss ich das Elend bauen, Here [on earth] I must build up misery, Aber dort, dort werd ich schauen But there [in heaven], there I will look upon Süssen Frieden, stille Ruh.
