Today tourists from all over the world flock to charming and captivatingly scenic Sedona. Offroaders come too, running the many famous rocky trails in the area. Schnebly Hill Road is both a road and a rite of passage. The road itself is crowded and annoyingly bumpy on the descent from the Rim into Sedona. But the views always delight, all that red and buff sandstone formed into monuments ranging from massive to whimsical. Despite being a Jeep Badge of Honor Trail, Schnebly Hill Road is a once and done for many. But it is one that you need to do and will always remember, a touchstone of the community if you will. Thoreau never did Schnebly Hill Road. You should.

Just ran this trail / "road". Amazing views! Spent the night in our roof mounted tent on our Ram 1500 Ecodiesel, just about 100 yards up from the Schnebly Hill Rd Vista. We were the only ones on the mountain that night...so cool! I watched this video first and got all the details from the trail guide. Thanks for all of your help!

Planning to visit the area in a few more weeks - thinking about making this drive - looks absolutely beautiful. Doing some research and looks like it might be better taking the East to West drive/approach. Currently see a Closed Road notice for upper Schnebly Road on the Coconino NF website. Guess I need to keep an eye on that - might need to come in from the East and head West, then turn around at upper SR and head back same way in. Guess we'll just plan on doing some extra exploring if needed. Thanks for the very visual and informative video. Safe Travels.

I've only done the whole route from west to east. Simply because I went on a picnic with my girlfriend up the lower part to the shelf looking down oak creek, and figured the way back to I-17 on the plateau was a better option than going back down the boulder path lower section back to Sedona . Sometimes fortune smiles on idiots that have a topo map and a vehicle they probably should not have taken to where they are in the first place. DOH!

Drove my 1998 Grand Cherokee Limited UP Schnebly Hill Road from Sedona to I-17 just after it snowed one year back in 1998. Had the all-season tires that came on the vehicle. The climb was no big deal. Cost me about $20 in quarters to wash the mud off in Flagstaff. The biggest deal was riding mountain bikes both up then down or down then up. I could get up to 37 mph on the bicycle on specific parts of the trail on the way down. It's a fun road with nice scenery that outdoor people need to drive just to say "been there done that." It's not really a challenge in a Jeep nor on a mountain bicycle going either direction.

A couple days ago we ran this trail from 17 to Sedona. Taller tires for axle clearance is probably the first necessity. The rocks which cover the entire trail are small enough to pass under your axle with 35s. You don't want to do this trail with stock Rubicon Diesel suspension. It will be a bottom-out fest. Beautiful, up close and distance views of the Sedona mountainscapes and long mountainside descent make this trail what it is. Never ending 7-10" unavoidable rocks take much away from this trail. There are no technical obstacles as I recall. (Except for the pink tour Jeeps.)

I have driven this trail a few times over the last 15 years. The last time was about 2 weeks ago. It is getting worst. The erosion from the increased traffic has definately taken its toll on this old road. Sedona has become such a tourist place now its losing much of its character and charm. The hotels and resorts are working their way in so it won't be long before much of Sedona is just like everywhere else. Its sad to see this happen to such a wonderful place.

I am not saying they can't, but I would rather side on the side of error then get someone into a place they are not ready for. I made the trail from Flag Staff to Sedona in a rented Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2016. OMG. The scariest thing I've ever done. Only attempt this with a major lift kit. 6" - 8".

I immediately assumed this must have been another trail, there's not a chance in hell it was the same one, but I was so very wrong...

The honor comes in when you bring a grill some brews and a lil bit of pot and enjoy the U.S.A 🇺🇸 God bless America 🇺🇸

Do you always have to beat the crap out of your vehicle to get a badge? I don't think that has to be. So if you're to macho to enjoy the ride go some place else where you'll need a wrecker to get you back home or maybe you and your rig aren't tough enough! Grow up junior. Not everyone has to flip their vehicle to enjoy the great outdoors.

Did this one a year ago in our 4Runner. Pretty fun. We camped up top then dropped into Sedona

You can drive a front wheel drive toyota corolla up this, its not a trail. Jeep badge of honor, HAHAHA

Yeah, the trail isn't hard by any means. But it is beautiful. From the lookout on this trail could be one of the best views of Sedona. We are not the Jeep Badge of Honor people, but a fair guess would be this is the reason this trail made the list. But it is a much nicer drive in a Jeep with tires aired down to 10psi.

Jeeper`s crack me up with their widdle badges, kinda like a participation trophy. I did Schnebly in my 4Runner without even putting it in 4WD.

yeah, its an easy trail. Only question is did you download the app, sign in, and request the badge for your Toyota?
