Let’s take a moment to analyse the trap at 2:10. Why wasn’t it effective? First of all, it’s predictable. The pressure plate triggers something underneath it, so the natural response is to run back up the stairs. In this case, due to this being a basic trap, that works. Secondly, it limits how much room the player has. Technoblade could use the newly created limited space to his advantage, as the opponent trapped themselves in a small tunnel. Thirdly, he probably knew something was up already due to that tunnel. A massive wood structure jutting out of the build that protects someone entirely when they could have bridged like a normal person is in no way suspicious! So how can you improve the trap to defeat even the almighty Technobladder? First of all, if Technobald reacted by running up, then EVERYONE reacts by running up. You can use that to your advantage. Create a three-high structure out of whatever material you like. If you have time, maybe even build a house to make it seem like you’re trying a meme strategy for extra convincingness. Then, place another block just above that, and build a roof going one block out. Again, you need to make it seem convincing - the person rushing your base needs to think it’s either turtle strategy or house strategy and not consider the next-level plan you have. Once inside, the rusher will likely not consider how the wall prevents them from ender-pearling away. Congrats, you’ve trapped them on your island! Now comes the tricky part: rigging the perfect trap. Now this comes down to the island you’re on, its features and the direction from which someone will probably rush you. This will change a lot based on the map and your island’s placement. If your island is large, you want to scatter the TNT as much as possible. That way, you will level the entire island, confusing the attacker and hopefully buying yourself enough time to knock them off. If your island is small, like in the video, then you want to clump the TNT together, as it will destroy most of the island regardless. But where do you place it? Let’s take a look at the video. This player could have predicted that Torquenoblade would rush from the left of the middle island, and cluster the TNT around the point that the bridge would meet the island. In doing so, when he retreats (possibly back onto the bridge), the TNT explodes, destroying that portion of the island and the bridge too. If he’s in the right spot, that could have killed him right there and then. But here’s the time-consuming part: you need to encase the TNT within the wall. To do this you need to hollow out the entire wall, place the TNT there, cover it back up to seem natural to attackers and maybe even modify the island’s outer structure to achieve this appearance, all without someone attacking during the process. With practice, I estimate that someone can do this in about 20 seconds. The wood structure that the player made COULD work, but it would have to be hidden. To do this, you can build it on the opposite side of the island to where you will be rushed so it stays out of their line of sight. And after all of this, there’s still no guarantee that it will work. However, if you want a decent trap that doesn’t kill you in the process, try using this method. It works quite a lot better than the player’s did in the video.
