This song realistically describes a majority of kid's middle-school experiences. Passing down info and tips to underclassmen who have no idea of what is going to happen to them.

If you like this, and don't mind a bit of colourful language, check out some of the songwriter's other stuff. Tim Minchin is a musical comedian and it is absolutely brilliant and some of them are actually really insightful.

In a production that I saw (it was a local theater group not on Broadway) it had similar choreography and I kept thinking "How are they not scared that they will fall off?" at the end when they recite the alphabet, Matilda comes to the middle of the stage after watching from the side for the entire song and climbs up the fence to get into to school yard so when she is coming down the students are pointing at her and singing "y y y y y y y? Y?" like "Why are you climbing in here instead of out?" and I always thought that was so cool.

The progression of my being impressed by this song 1st listen: this is a catchy song 2nd listen: Seriously what a bop 3rd listen: OMG it goes lyrically through the alphabet while still driving the story forward. 4th listen: Wow, what an alphabetic bop 5th listen: Ohmygod ohmhgod the alphabet is on cadence with the four count. How did someone write this masterpiece?!

allright, lets all just admit that terrifying or not Agatha Trunchbull does a terible job at keeping her students in line, she is constantly tricked and trolled. in the short time frame this happens in she has somebody pour a can of treacle on her chair, gets tricked by matilda, Bruce steals a slice of her chocolate cake and Lavender puts a newt in her water. in all of these cases the kids don't back off and the only one who was punished was Bruce.
