The whole picture thing is a bit weird... or is that just me? Also-- as usual-- the law enforcement was totally useless in these types of movies lol.

I think I gave off the impression that I didn't like this movie. I promise you, I did! I always just say the first thing that comes to my head while reacting and so if I think something looks weird, I say it. If I think the story is predictable, I say it. It's no shade to the movie, I'm just saying things. I'll specifically say if I actually think something is bad/good/weird.

The picture thing would be weird in our world, but it's a lot more understandable in his world. He doesn't just fall in love with a picture, he knows who she is. He knows she's a great warrior, an incredible mother, someone who trained the man he idolises. His knowledge of who she is, coupled with her beauty, and the fact that he's living a horrific isolated life with no lover and nothing but war... yeah, makes sense that he'd fall in love with this idealised image of Sarah he has, and even more sense when she begins to live up to it. It's kind of beautiful that he always wonders what she was thinking of in the moment the picture was taken, and it turns out she was thinking of him. But it's also sad that he'll never know.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is REALLY, REALLY good at playing a mechanical serial killer, especially doing it completely deadpan. Funniest line in this movie to me is when The Terminator scrolls through his list of responses when the landlord asks about the bad odor coming from the room and he chooses to say "Fuck you, asshole."

After doing the two Conan movies offers had dried up for Arnold and he had just about given up on an acting career so Cameron really had to talk him into doing this film. It launched his career and he never played a villain again.

It's a time loop... Sarah in the moment that picture was taken, is thinking about her love for Kyle Reese. John gives that picture to Kyle (knowing Kyle is his dad but never telling him). John spends years telling Kyle about Sarah and all the things she did raising him to be a survivor. Kyle often stares at that picture wondering what she's thinking about in that moment (she's thinking about him). It's oddly romantic, and sort of a destiny fulfilled kind of thing. - PS - I think Kyle sort of loses his cool in the hotel because he realizes exactly why John gave him that picture... and who he is to John and Sarah.
@Insolent8

Yeah I'd agree. He says "John Connor gave me a picture of you once. I didn't know why at the time." Who gives a random person a picture of their mother?
@Mr.Ekshin
@Mr.Ekshin 5 ай бұрын
@@Insolent8 - Yup... it wasn't until I'd seen this a few times that I recognized that moment when Kyle seems to recognize the truth in all this. Imagine suddenly realizing that your best friend... a leader you look up to, and who brought you under his wing as his protege... is actually your own son. And while it seemed weird at the time when he gave you that picture... you now know why. Talk about an overwhelming moment. All the things he told you about this amazing woman suddenly make perfect sense, and your entire destiny sort of falls into place. Note that he also realized in that same moment that he won't make it much longer and that his time with Sarah will be limited.

I've seen this film countless times on VHS growing up, I thought the special effects were flawless until I saw it in HD for the first time. Still, the originality and creativity shines through. An absolute classic.

One doesn't tend to fall into ROMANTIC LOVE with one's deceased heroes based on the legendary exploits of said heroes and a photograph. People tend to have great admiration for their deceased hero's whom they had never met, but they don't tend to form deep romantic feelings for said deceased heroes. This is an excellent movie, and I have no problem with Sarah and Reese falling for each other as he is protecting her. But the idea that he was already in romantic love with her, even before he time-traveled is kind of WEIRD. Unless there is some kind of MAGICAL DESTINY GOING ON, where Reese just somehow magically and subconsciously sensed that Sarah is his destiny, and thus Reese formed a subconscious emotional connection with her, even before he time-traveled back in time. In other words, their LOVE FROM 1984 REACHED ACROSS THE SANDS OF TIME TO 2029. That could explain it; particularly if one was writing a science-fiction romance-novel
@LukeLovesRose
@LukeLovesRose 5 ай бұрын
Exactly. Kyle is literally from h**l. A photo of Sarah Connor, the legend that John couldnt stop talking about wouldve been more important to Kyle than gold. Kyle wouldve mistaken his infatuation with Sarah for romantic love. I mean, seriously, put yourself in his shoes. WW2 vets were obsessed with photos of their girls back home. They thought they were in h**l.... Ha!

@keng4847

Sorry, it's weird. It would be more about fantasy than love. There is a difference between falling IN LOVE WITH THE LEGENDARY EXPLOITS of someone and being in love with a person. The former would be more akin to hero worship, or being in love with THE IDEA OF SOMEBODY. Still as I said, it's an excellent movie. But the idea that he was already in love with her before he went back in time is not among it's strongest aspects. It feels forced There is no reason they couldn't have made it that he fell for her as he was protecting her.

ICONIC. This is one of those movies like Rocky, Jaws, Back to the Future, and The Godfather should be persevered and protected. It was heavy shot with a lot of practical effects. Like you said, people are getting bored with CGI. But if you love this one, you'll understand why a lot of people loved Terminator 2 (1991). A total win for polling. Keep them coming 🎉.

Kay, I really enjoyed your reaction to this iconic film! Some trivia: In the original script, Arnold's line was "I'll come back." However, it didn't seem to pack much punch when Arnold said it. After much discussion, "I'll be back" was determined to be the perfect catchphrase for Arnold to say.

The scene with the criminologist was re-edited from what was in the original theatrical release. The scene used to go something like this: Detective: Sarah, this is a criminal psychologist (cut to criminal psychologist) : Hi, Sara (he says in that hang dog voice of his) (Cut to Sarah as she rolls her eyes in disgust at this creepy guy) This results in a big unintentional laugh from the audience. The "Hi, Sarah" is now gone and so is the shot of her rolling her eyes. They inserted the part where he says "That's what we're gonna find out" to replace it.

Kyle thought he loved Sarah. John Connor told stories about the legend, Sarah Connor. Then Kyle was given her photo. He finally had a face to go with the legend. The movie specifically illustrates that they dont have televisions. They have nothing to keep them happy, occupy their time or inspire them. One picture of a legendary figure who is also very pretty would be more important to Kyle than gold. I think the movie beautifully illustrates that Kyle needs to turn back to Sarahs picture whenever hes down. In WW2, many soldiers were obsessed with pictures of pin up girls or pictures of their girlfriends back home. They needed those photos to inspire them. Thats no different than Kyles obsession with Sarahs photo.

The Terminator and T2 were the Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back for my generation. The Terminator is possibly the greatest "B-movie" ever made. By that i mean, it is the greatest low-budget sci-fi ever produced. Some of the effects stand out like a sore thumb. But The Terminator is still a great inspiration for future filmmakers. Cameron showed us what can be possible on a small budget and its freaking amazing. T2 on the other hand is the greatest action movie ever made. Cameron showed us whats possible once youve established yourself in the industry. And its freaking phenomenal. I mean, Linda Hamilton was so great in T2, she made Sarah Connor one of the greatest, strongest, most iconic female roles ever put on film. Her Sarah Connor is right up there with Cameron's own Ellen Ripley in Aliens and Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind.

Reese falling in love with Sarah's picture was not weird. In the world he came from, any kind of relationship with a woman would have been virtually impossible all of his life. Everyone was probably a ragged, desperate, diseased refugee. Even if he could persuade some woman to have sex, where would they have done it? In a crowded refugee shelter? He had probably never even seen a movie or TV show. This would be nothing like our world.

PS - Over the years, I've seen plenty of pets on the roadside that were hit by cars. It's sad to see, but usually forgotten by the time I get to work. Yes, people get killed a movie and no big deal, but heaven forbid a dog does. I asked someone about this moral reversal and their explanation was that all dogs are innocent, but not all humans are. I don't buy that, because in the movies, innocent people get killed too and it is not as big of a deal as it is if a dog gets killed.

Not to neglect your opinion in the matter, but Kyle Reese had probably not only seen a picture of Sarah Connor and fallen in love based on just that. Her son had most likely talked a lot about her. And if he had some modesty he probably made her seem more of the hero when his followers called him a hero and saviour of humanity. He may have passed it all on to his now dead mom who "taught him everything he knows". Of course Kyle Reese fell for Sarah Connor when he finally met her. So you could perhaps call Kyle more of a fan and groupie of this legendary woman that indirectly saved all of humanity. And it was the 80s so of course there has to be love/sex relationships between main characters. I was becoming a teenager as this movie came out, so I didn't complain. But was the whole world just hornier back then?

I noticed that you called out a lot of things before they happened. Maybe you weren't too impressed with the film. But for its day, it was quite unique. A lot of modern sci-fi movies are cliche because they borrow ideas from previous films of the past. The Terminator is not cliche. This is the film that all our modern movies steal their ideas from. The Terminator was unique. It started it all. -OG

It doesn’t get said till the fourth movie (just found this out, blows my mind), but the terminator was specifically a T-800. Kyle made reference to the earlier 600 series, and he called this one a model 101 which is referring to it’s human appearance. But T-800 has been know for much longer because that’s what it was called with the toys

I've watched a number of your reactions over the years, and generally I like them. But with this one it seems like you went into the movie with a mindset to NOT enjoy it. There's nothing wrong with jokes, but many of your jokes in this reaction seem to be meant to disparage the movie and nitpick it. This can be off-putting to viewers who genuinely enjoy the movie and it puts them on the defensive. It makes it seem like you are a negative person who just wants to find fault rather than appreciate the film for what it is. I don't think this was your intention, but that's the impression that came across. Just something to keep in mind for future videos.
