This week we make a simple cube hand prop. While the core cube is basic it is the texture and painting treatment that set it apart. This is a perfect project to start off with and for the more advanced maker, it is an effective low-cost high-impact object for your film, series or cosplay.

I don't make a lot of sci-fi models, but I love Anthony's enthusiasm and the ability to make 'something from nothing'. Great vid, thanks for sharing.

You are just simply amazing. You have a warm soul. Why do you not have your own t.v. channel? You need more followers!

doesn't sound weird to me to make a prop first. Its like a physical mood board. You're giving yourself a piece of that universe to help write the story with. I tell stories through painting and modeling so I can understand.

Your motto of square peg round hole and you talking about making a cube, as soon as you emptied out the carrier bag on the cutting board I got immediate Apollo 13 vibes.

I think this is simultaneously one of your simplest builds but also one of the most professional looking. This one doesn't even look low/no budget to me.

That leftover Aztec taping underneath that layer is what makes that piece become amazing. Good eye, and great work. Love it.

I feel your like one of your next projects should be a miniature cyberpunk style city using bottles and whatever else you can find. Would love to see your take on it!

Painter's tape or packing tape over the top of the stencil will help hold all the lil bits together then once applied you can pill the packing or painter's tape off. Often works. Happy crafting

what is it about prop makers having a tenancy towards being delightful oddballs? (I count myself in this a bit) what is it about the combination of technical problem solving and artistic thinking that does this? the ability to look at any old mundane thing and saying "that could be something cool/strange?"

*of possible interest for a future prop element: **www.amazon.com/dp/B081RBGNGN/ref=dp_cerb_1** used as an aperture in front of a small on board communications device or one found on an abandoned piece of technology or one cobbled together from found parts once activated...* *perhaps a bit steampunky for what you intended or had envisioned but an arrangement of deck prisms might also prove to be an interesting bit of technology if used as power conduit crystals with electrical discharges transferring back and forth...just sayin'*
