Every Thursday we're traveling through a DUST wormhole to bring back some our channel's classics.
One night, a teenage girl disappears without a trace. Years later, her friend returns home and finds himself being beckoned back into those woods - the last place she was seen alive. An atmospheric sci-fi about the archetypal lost girl.

Director’s Statement:
I was interested in making a short that confronts the perversion of the “missing girl story” in both film and in reality. I wanted to create something meditative and personal with a small group of collaborators; I shot most of the film myself, including the VFX, which were hand done in my parents’ basement. I’m from Rhode Island and grew up reading Lovecraft, and was incredibly inspired by his worlds, his characters, and their maddening search for the bigger picture, the great answers. As Callum searches for Haley, the alluring missing girl of his past, his expectations get challenged. His journey spans fertile woods, deep caves, and fallopian tunnels. He grows to realize that he is a passenger, not a pioneer, while she is the leader, not the victim.

OBVIOUSLY this is being reshown to take advantage of the young starlet's current success. Well done, compelling, good acting, good visuals and editing, but I'm still not any clearer about the endings' meaning than I was a few years ago.

I’m not sure what the meaning behind this short film is- but my interpretation is of a delusional man retracing his steps of a young girl he murdered years ago and left In thats cave. Maybe in a psychotic break. Then all those woman looking at him with disgust maybe his guilt of trying to “erase” her and he thinks they know

This could/should have been a much better story with it's great premise and setup, but seemed to fall apart half way through when the "mystery" of what happened to the young woman is so open ended.

I didn't recognize it at first b/c the intro has zero to do with the rest of it. Then I realized I'd already seen this one so I skipped to the end to see if the intro made sense & remembered the end made no sense either.

Also notice the futuristic stage coaches lined up on the street. She said she wasn't constrained by space or time. So maybe he went into the future where there aren't men anymore.

Compelling production, Natalia played her Haley character very well, but still not quite connecting the dots here with the story. "You can not erase me" . . . OK, but what's going on here? The final scene, with women walking around him, glaring at him like some sort of mysterious lifeform . . . have men been purged from existence by then? Oh well, the harbingers of a story might be here, maybe just needs a bit more story development work.

Guys, not that this may help, but this is the description of the film. I understood it by watching it initially but for anyone who doesn’t understand it, this is the film’s description: Synopsis. After finding a mysterious totem in a cave while on a hike with her friend, a wayward teenage girl goes missing. Years later, seeking to understand the disappearance that continues to haunt him, the friend returns to the cave, embarking on a journey deep into himself.

The only conclusions I could find were the possibility that Natalie’s character is representing girls and women who go missing for various reasons and never found. If they are never found, they are never truly dead. If you can never truly die, perhaps you’re able to live outside of space, time, and matter that her second-half character seems to suggest. It’s also possible that, that “thing” they found was alien in nature and caused not only her “disappearance” but his as well. Since he found himself surrounded by women looking at him that were possibly in this “never dead/immortal via time” dimension.

@@robertheinkel6225 I have the LG and Samsung full keyboard sliders, and about a half dozen RAZRs. Everyone knew from the beginning that CDMA was a dead end, but it's one of those things like sea level rise that you don't think about until your house is floating away.

what the hell just happened? Why were the women looking at him like he's an alien? Why did she turn into smoke? Why did she want him to have the strange object and how can she transcend matter and not age? Did the object do that? Did it do that to the other missing girls? Why did the object burn him when he was in the cave but stopped when he was outside? What was up with the black smoke? Why did she want that object in the first place and how did she even know what it was or where to look?

@sudo Wow, I swear that directors part was not there before, bc I checked it several times for more explanation! IDK if it was changed or if there was a newer version released (just looked- didn't find one) or what. Thanks for your reply bc I still wouldn't know. Having said that, for all that his statement does add, I'm still left with a bunch of questions. Were the girls in the last scene also "missing girls?" If she was the leader, what was he following her into? Was the black pod a hallucinogen or a touchstone to another dimension or reality or future or...? And more.... I really like the way this film was done which is why it's got me asking. The artistic scenes are so cool but step outside clarity a bit. And, that's fine and to be expected in art, but the curious part of me keeps wondering, and wishing there was more to sort of add a bit more perspective. Still, one of the best conceived and executed shorts I've ever seen.

Something to do with crossing dimensions.. some tie in with being a woman or a female as she says she can see everything and at the end all the females are watching him as he walks by and around them... As if they know something..

Sci-fi short - comments by Jan Beware of spoilers! After Her by Ali Migliori Plot: Well… :- ) Something happens to a girl and then to a boy…; there is basically do story to be told and no plot unravelled. I don’t know, maybe it was just an allegory on some girl issues, based on him vs all the girls; and her monologue Negatives: 1) whole story is not a story, it is just a variation on mystery something, leads only to confusion; 2) her monologue: big words, but nothing behind them Positives: 1) some visual effects were nice Personal note: I got the impression of puberty: big words, everything is mysterious, some visuals and, that’s it, nothing more Summary: maybe it was just about lost girl and that he cannot get her out of mind? Understandable, but generally, not that great movie

Not a bad short film, but, I've ALWAYS HATED the 'Shakey camera view' way of filming. YES... I KNOW it was meant to give more of a 'Person type view' of what's going on, but, to me, it detracts from the actual acting, scenery and 'Watchability' of the films and TV shows that employed it... It's like, IF you were following these two characters (or ANY characters in film/TV, would your vision be shakey like this...? No. Do your eyes and head normally give you shakey vision...? No. So why do it? It's an ineffective way of filming. But, like I said, pretty good short film with the story and theme it portrayed. 👍 😎🇬🇧

This is a great little piece of storytelling. The use of sound and the photography are amazing. Its captivating. A little mesmerising. Each moment gives you a sense of anticipation of something about to happen. I love that I didnt fully understand this one. I think it should remain in the abstract. Suggesting several things about the main characters and things that happened between them. Whoever edited this together was profoundly talented. Even the hand held camera work was fantastic. Thank you and well done.

I agree that’s it’s been edited well and everything and isa good concept looks amazing and is entertaining but Wym by story telling what the fu*k is the story what’s the meaning what’s the message and what tf is the ending and it’s stupid that’s it’s kinda everywhere because you don’t know what’s happening and it’s hard to keep track off

@@beastgamer4683 I didn't have much trouble with the vagueness of the story. A boy follows a girl. She shows him a strange object. He is frightened. He dreams about her. He can't contact her. He retraces his steps and finds the object she found. He somehow reconnects with her. The boy is changed by the experience. It reminded me a little of Walkabout with Jenny Agutta.

Okay, what?... Are there special glasses required to see through the crap? Really people, there are stories that leave nothing to the imagination and well this. A happy medium would be nice. Good effects and location filming.
