I loved the visuals/effects. The main character was unraveling due to isolation and loneliness. She obviously was seeking evidence of other survivors. (Of an alien attack?) At first I thought she was hunting when she ventured out, but it makes more sense that there was evidence of contact and she went looking. I can't help but think she was baited. Sad ending, but definitely a compelling, riveting film.

@EdwinWiles
@EdwinWiles 5 жыл бұрын
No, I don't think so. From the calendar (tally sheet really) that she scratches on the wall, she's been in that location for months. She's been going outside for much of that time as well, which you can tell from the map that she circles an area, and then scratches it off after she's cleared it. The most intense time of fallout is shortly after the event that caused it. If she's still got fallout that intense after months, then you have to posit that the conflict that caused it is still going on. If that were the case, why would she be moving through the city clearing it block by block? A survivor in that situation would move towards other people, not spend their remaining life hunting the creatures. No, the makers thought that the constant fallout would make the world more bleak, but didn't study how fallout actually happens, or how fast it accumulates.

Edwin Wiles You make a compelling argument! That's probably what happened when they created the film. But we, as viewers, can find excuses for it. Perhaps this place is subject to very strong, intermitent winds. At 3:56 you can see an enormous death-star-like structure in the sky, so chances are that this story is set on another planet than Earth. And who knows what kind of peculiar climate would exist on this world?

Well I had it in my sights. And was behind cover. So I figured I'd better run away and enter an empty building. Thereby ensuring that this thing could sneak up on me from any direction. Great visuals. But duuuumb tactics. Might want to switch off that geiger counter BTW. That sound is sort of giving away your position.
@schwinn434
@schwinn434 3 жыл бұрын
@Reploid REVO The Geiger counter seemed to only sound loud, once the protagonist turned around; didn't make a lot of sense to me- since the Geiger counter's sound should have increased as the creature got closer, to be an effective device for defensive purposes, and not just when the protagonist finally turned around, and it was too late. So I agree, another, inconsistent detail in this visually well-produced (but story wised flawed) short video, IMHO. I personally think the little details are what really makes a story be a good one.

Yeah, I couldn't understand her tactics at all. I thought that when she got up on that bridge-like structure she had a big advantage -- she was elevated with a clear field around her and if the beast managed to make the bridge, he'd have to come straight at her without deviation. But instead she goes running to a dark building with a million recesses in it where the thing could hide and come at her from any direction. But what do I know?

This version has a rather bad quality compared to the Vimeo version, which has better colors, no mpeg artifacts, and normal credits. However, the mutation or long scar and the wing tattoos on the girl's back, recognisable in the shower scene, raise some questions who she was before the apocalypse ;-) I would give the actress some credit. Her name is Lila Guimarães. The short is dated 2016 on IMDB. It is technically very advanced, regarding picture manipulation and integration of CGI into real-world photography. I recommend watching it a few times, because of the many details it has in every scene. Most of the flaws the movie would have, according to some comments here, are based on speculations or presumptions. -The moon is not our moon for sure. -The dead man in the strongroom shows no sign of decomposition, but he could have died not long ago. -Propane or Butane gas for cooking can actually last for decades, as I experienced myself recently with a 30-year-old cartridge. It would require some airflow as it produces co2 when burnt. -Some viewangles are showing that the girl lives in a cellar, not a bunker. -The shellac record has about three tracks, which is not impossible but very rare. But playing a modern (33 or 45 rpm) record with a grammophone (usually 78 rpm) would certainly kill the record. I doubt that you would hear anything with such a big needle. -The first two gunshots on the street are indeed missing the reload noise inbetween. -The map is indeed of San Francisco (west oriented), but the architecture of the buildings does remind me more of the old town of an european city. -I would argue that a better gun (automatic) was not available to the girl, or that antiquity is simply the weapon of her choice. From some artifacts there I would then conclude she is a bit of a Steampunk girl.

I was expecting the ferret to break free of its cage, and activate something that would help her. Like, she knows how long it will take the ferret to get out if she loosens a few wires, so she always makes sure to get back before that time has passed. But if gets out, it goes for food and has to walk over a pressure plate that sends out a homing robot or a flare or activates a bomb on her suit, etc. Nope. Just dead girl and ferret. *sigh* (edited for typo)

For a survivor who takes so much care in the care of her weapon, plus body hygiene - why and for whom? - she amazes with unbelievable carelessness during her patrol. Many of these science fiction films convince with technical brilliance, but the stories and motifs behind them are often very, very thin. I suppose they're all student graduate theses from a film school.
@globalincident694
@globalincident694 5 жыл бұрын
I think it's credible (just about). We know she has a weapon, but that doesn't necessarily mean she's a soldier. She could have acquired her weapons through other means, and learned how to take care of them through a combination of intuition and trial and error. (She might have some sort of engineering background, which would help her out a little.) Even if she is trained in combat, the film indicated that her peripheral vision is quite poor in that suit, making it difficult to spot threats, and the suit might also be muffling sound. The creature is also shown to be quite resistant to bullets, so running is arguably a better option than shooting. As for the shower, she does still need to remove sweat to prevent fungal infection (assuming that's still a thing).

@Woochinatchika Kokillibolinov So your personal social circle gives you special insight into how Dust finances their filmmakers and puts you in a position to judge their character as individuals? Wow. That's... "special." Since you obviously have a personal gripe with everyone associated with an entire industry, why would you even watch the video, let alone make yourself look like an ass by making vague ad hominems about the people behind it? Feel free to not answer, by the way. This thread is adding nothing meaningful to the discussion about the video.

Problem: A vacuum tube radio is not starting up in an instant... that particular model would need five to ten minutes to become operational. The effect could've been quite nice, she turns on the radio then goes and pours herself a coffee or some water, the radio slowly turns on, the volume and noise increases building up on the scene, she gets back on the chair... just saying as you clearly like mixing in old tech with apocalyptic scenarios. And I actually agree that those old radios could still work very well in such a scenario.

At about 7:01, the woman passes some newspapers and/or magazines strewn on the ground. This would imply that the apocalyse (whatever it was) happened only a few days before, since paper degrades fairly quickly. Then a little later, at 7:47, she comes upon the skeleton of some large animal. It would take three to six months for a large animal to be completely stripped to its bones. This is an inconsistency.
