39:53 WE CAN DISTINGUISH BETWEEN ETHANOL AND ETHANOIC â BY ADDING SODIUM CARBONATE IN BOTH THE TEST TUBES. TESTUBE CONTAINING ETHANOIC â WILL PRODUCE CO2 GAS , AND THE TEST TUBE THAT DOESN'T FORM CO2 CONTAINS ETHANOL.

Take two test tubes add ethanol and ethanoic acid in test tube A and B respectively. Add sodium carbonate/sodium hydrogen carbonate solution in both the test tubes the test tube which will produce brisk effervescence of CO2 gas will contain ethanoic acid.
