Humanity's first grasp of reality was based on a magical worldview. Over millennia, magic evolved into a multitude of esoteric and religious ideas. Within the last five centuries our worldview has settled upon science as the arbiter of truth. Each of these major transitions has offered more comprehensive explanations of the natural world, but each new paradigm also suppressed useful elements of previous worldviews. Based on the historical record, as well as a growing body of new experimental studies, we can now gain a glimmering of what our next grasp of reality may look like, along with its pragmatic consequences.
Dean Radin, PhD (Psychology, University of Illinois), has been Senior Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences since 2001. He previously held appointments at Princeton University, University of Edinburgh, Bell Labs, and SRI International. Author or co-author of over 200 technical and popular articles, he has also written several books including the bestselling The Conscious Universe (HarperOne, 1997), Entangled Minds (Simon & Schuster, 2006), and Supernormal (Random House, 2013).

Dean gives the best talks. He's such a levelheaded and pragmatic guy, you've gotta admire his patience. Decades of pointing out evidence to a community which actively rejects any possibility of ESP on principle. I'm very grateful to him for not giving up years ago.

ikr, and to whose benefit they are ignoring the data? (meaning mainstream science) This is meant for the benefit of all, because that is the nature and the potential ability of everyone. It seems the ignorance of a dogmatic religious polarity resulted in a quite strong counterpart of the same dogma but on the side of materialism. But science really is not about materialism at all, it is all about avoidance of dogma and an open mind. Fortunately we get more and more scientists each year that are willing to look and ponder and go beyond the dogma.

Linx Domgátic I agree with you in part. But being a clinical astrological researcher for the past 30 years, I can say that I can read in the birth map which parts of someone's brain are more developed, whether there are right-brain capabilities, or strengths. This is the problem with psi testing: not all human beings have the same capacity to develop these psi skills. Hoping to have some of my book series out this year, and I'll be sending a copy of the volume on this to Dean Radin. I greatly admire his work and courage. I'm hoping to change some minds about Astrology as a science, as Astrology is a language for consciousness and frequencies, but not all astrologers use it that way.

Dean's book Supernormal is wonderful. It gave me the confidence to explore psi, and it allowed me to do it without feeling foolish. Scientists like Radin, Charles Tart, and Russell Targ are so important to the development of human acceptance of these phenomena.

I feel so guilty that I actually haven't read ANY of Dean's books, because I feel exactly the same as you about him. As well as Targ, Tart, Stewart Hameroff, Andrew Peake (you get the idea, lol) in high school I always had such an interest in all things psi related, but I never allowed myself to get too caught up in the idea, because I was always taught that it's nonsense. Through my own research of quantum physics however, I eventually discovered these very intelligent men who had made this their life's work, and that is what gave me the confidence as well. It's changed my life in such a profound way. Upon graduation from high school, I was heading down quite a destructive path but it's been the work of these people that has allowed me to have this amazing spiritual awakening and has taught me that there is SO much more to life than what we can perceive with our traditional five senses. And I think that gave me a lot of hope, and reason to be excited and in awe of my life. ♡♡♡ So, at the very least I owe it to Dean Radin to read all of his books. He played a huge role in saving my life, really :)

@@tommyapples8490 That is very true in my experience. Also, I believe where Dean is talking about terror he's not 100% accurate. When iT comes to investigating certain para-psychological phenomenon, and not doing iT out of terror, I believe actually your brain/mind knows people would use this in attaining power in a corruptive way. The more harmonious your nature is the more inner counsel from brain/mind you may be subject to, pending the probability of how much one is bound to interact with corruptive people. Here's a thought about theurgy. iF you tell your spouse to take out the garbage and they do, you have exercised mind over matter.

This is admirable, but this is only one interpretation. I find it much more simple. There is a direct correlation and ration between the degree of simplicity within any system and it's raw potential kinetically We call any system that exhibits this "low entropy". At the end of the limits of analysis, we come back full circle to raw awareness in it's most simple form. The feeling of being alive and present in your environment, and the "interconnectedness" to all that moves and is. In other words, once we exhaust our pursuits of analysis, we finally find what we're looking for. An empty mind. Empty = Simple = Potential. The Potential...to realize your source of Potential and what drives it deep within you. Your Purpose. This is something that literally goes beyond all science. Because it's not tangible or observable. Science needs to be bridged with Psychology and translated into individual applicable and simple terms we can all digest and actually use. What is the emptiness? The real question is not a question of understanding, but a question of when,....we'll return to emptiness. Because the emptiness is 90 percent of reality and we have no clue as to what it is. We are only now making up terms for it like "dark matter" and "dark energy". The only reason it's dark is because we are not acknowledging that our own vision and thoughts and emotions fill that void...as the void fills us. This is the Power we all Seek. Whether we are conscious of it or not behind all that drives us....and within it all realizing the ultimate safety and security of infinity and eternity of Life itself of which we are all Sourced.

Sara Shaw very seldom do I find myself unintentionally (let alone, if ever, with any intent at all for that matter...) rather should I say; unwittingly stumbling across a yt comment which embodies such powerful insight in the form of a statement or "hypothesis" if u will, which seems to make sense almost simultaneously with that amount of tremendous meaning and logical simplicity. That it leaves me impressed enough to actually want to clap in amazement at it's almost exact sense of accuracy.

Dean Radin ROCKS!!!
@lukebradley3193
@lukebradley3193 7 жыл бұрын
Its good to see alternative views getting an open minded exploration. Radin shouldn't dismiss the conjecture of some scientists regarding this stuff being real but not classically testable though. Scientific method leans implicitly on statistical techniques which are about getting classic (Shannon) information, but in the Quantum theory, they had to bend that around into new forms, to express things like quantum information. For instance I claim that a qubit can store 2 bits of information, but in a lab, I can never get more than one bit of information out of a qubit. So how can my conjecture be true? By using superdense coding, I can now prove it to be true, but only *out of isolation*, with another entangled qubit. But the lab setting where I was looking at one qubit *in isolation* couldn't produce the result. So things have truths in ensemble that are not visible in isolation, and that's an important place to look to understand weirdness.
@AwareLife
@AwareLife 3 жыл бұрын
But that is what Dean explained. He and others presented evidence that met all criterion and it was sidelined simply because of its subject matter. Trouble with science today it is totally beholden to funding sources. Objective observational, results data-based science is steered by a fundamentalist scientism. "Peer review" has a certain fascism about it now..

The oldest witch in France, Hecate, said, in a fairly recent interview, that today what was most requested of her by her clients was revenge, sometimes even murder... It's simple: when you really want to know who someone is, what they are really worth, you just have to empower them and see what they do with it ... So yes, I have no doubt that the paranormal exists and this interview is interesting. But at the same time, the disastrous way human beings are accustomed to using power in general (which all human history bears witness to), I hardly dare imagine what would happen on this planet if everyone was developing superpowers! Other than boosting their egos and behaving like little bullies, I don't believe people would evolve into anything much more noble. So the notion of evolution seems to me very relative here ... In the same way that technological power has in no way made man himself evolve -not in the truest sense of the word. Yogis warn yoga practitioners for millennia against "siddhis" (powers), not because they are bad in themselves, but because the human being is an immature and self-centered creature, who does not control himself, who is dominated by his appetites and his narcissism, and that it is therefore at the service of his weaknesses, much more than at the service of his greatness of soul, that the "powers" are put most of the time.

So it seems like magic, Religion, and Science, are all linked together, through conciseness. but the key is (belief) for the universe to grant the magic. With that in mind isn't the D-Wave supercomputer a method enhancing these magical magnifications. through quantum mechanics?
@reedjones7300
@reedjones7300 Жыл бұрын
I think it would be more accurate to say that magic, religion, and science are the same, not just linked together, basically religion was the new magic then science was the new religion, and now we realize they are all the same thing. Computers, even quantum computers, don't really apply here.

What we seem to be learning is that the mind has an effect on reality - sometimes a tiny effect, sometimes maybe a large effect. This means that it's impossible to be 100% objective, which presents a difficulty for how science has normally been done (it assumed the mind had no effect on reality at all).

So, Dean, what are you trying to do with your lecture? To what extent should we change our thinking? In everyday life? Ok, first buy your books. But otherwise? What do you have in mind? You could also work in a bank. So what drives you into this controversy?

A true scientist is driven by truth, not money. He can of course work in places where he is heavily paid, but he won't be able to do things he believes in. The organization he currently works in is well aligned with his mission.

john kennedy, I have been following Dean for a while, and I have never heard him make such a claim. What's your source? Based on everything I've ever heard him say, spoon-bending sounds like the last thing that he would claim to be able to do.

john kennedy Not really, his claims are backed up by evidence. I've never known him to make a spoon bending claim.
