Neil deGrasse Tyson Explains Future Space Travel Challenges
Subscribe to Science Time: / sciencetime24
Neil deGrasse Tyson talks about the challenges of space exploration and space travel. Throughout human history, humankind has shared an innate trait - the desire to explore. According to Neil deGrasse Tyson, the urge to explore is not the only driving factor that could take us beyond low-Earth orbit and into deep space. A large proportion of current research into space is involved in understanding how to keep humans alive. When a spacecraft built for humans ventures into deep space, it requires an array of features to keep it and a crew inside safe. Neil deGrasse Tyson also talks about "little" things that are important for space missions such as food and drinking water.

To sustain long-term human life in space will require artificial gravity, generated using the centrifugal force. To accomplish that, we will have to construct a giant rotating cylinder, probably at least 200 meters in diameter. It will have to be assembled in orbit, with the components sent up there one at a time. We will also need far better shielding from the intense radiation of interplanetary space. The crew will have to have at least some forms of entertainment and creature comforts (perhaps individual cabins), as well as "earthlike" food. That's a very tall order.

I understand that perspective. Luckily, this is not actually the case. Our society is a bit of a house of cards. Extraterrestrial vehicles were first recovered by DoD in late 40’s. Aerospace contractors mastered production of alien reproduction vehicles by late 50’s-early 60’s. Covert Lunar colony by mid-60’s, covert Mars settlements established in 1971. HQ of Mars Colony Corporation is Aries Prime. ET coverup still ongoing. NASA is a front organization that truly explores almost nothing.

Very intriguing video. I cannot believe that Dr. N. D. Tyson has not considered using a wire rope as a solenoid for a fuel-less propulsion means. Similar to the space elevator idea. Imagine a stationary wire rope, in space, several thousand miles long stretched tight between opposing rocket propelled depos on each end. The rockets only fire when needed. The depos collect solar energy and use a battery to energize the wire rope solenoid; or use nuclear energy. A magnetized yoke loop on the shuttle ship partially encircles the solenoid A desired acceleration speed is dialed in. Same thing in reverse for slowing down. Two solenoids near Mars. Two near Earth; and two in between Earth and Mars. One week there and one week back.
@KTBFFH
@KTBFFH 2 жыл бұрын
Do we have the material on earth to build a wire rope several thousand miles long? If we do (and I know this is not the biggest obstacle), surely the economical hurdle would run into the trillions. In other words, ahem, the costs would be astronomical (couldn't resist).
@clavo3352
@clavo3352 2 жыл бұрын
@@KTBFFH It's about as complex and expensive as a cross country railroad. . How long are they? Ok so we have the material and would only use about 1 /100th the amount of steel. Now think of how an old V8 engine pushes all of its exhaust out of 1 pipe (often 2 pipes nowadays). That's called a manifold exhaust system. Now wire rope isn't human so its acceleration force does not need to be limited; so that you don't crush the contents of the rocket's cargo. Finally old nuclear bombs can be used to produce steam, for a steam catapult. Using manifold to accumulate the energy to accelerate, the wire rope carrying rocket, to the edge of space using sea water to propel the rocket. It is similar to how a kids water bottle rocket experiment works . All that just gets the heavy stuff into space. Still got to assemble it into a solenoid.

@@clavo3352 would the tensile strength be enough to prevent the chain/chord/rope from breaking?
@clavo3352
@clavo3352 Жыл бұрын
@@slashnburn9234 That's a very fair question. Wire rope of about 1" diameter can pull ships at sea. I believe that 120k lbs tensile strength. But that's in a gravity situation. Which I'm not sure how to consider. But then the weight of the ship in space is it's specific gravity; I think; no? Then there's the effect of acceleration over time. [sorry having to break stuff on stove!] K i'm back LOL! Anyway; it would be too heavy, to send up 1"thick steel wire rope so it's going to need to be an original construct to maximize tensile strength and conductivity; Thinking a mix of carbon fiber, copper, aircraft aluminum and graphene or borophene. So, it is pulled taught to about 1000lbs during an acceleration or deceleration Then the calculation will need to be made for how to limit the tensile pull on the cable based on the ship's weight and the tensile rating of the cable; to determine the maximum speed and acceleration. There will need to be rocket engine depots at each end with the ability to move the cable around in space.

@@californiacloud1036 Magnetic repulsion requires proximity to a magnetic flux. That cannot be done wirelessly as far as I know. Otherwise those Star Trek tractor beams would be a reality. Solenoids require a conductor. Notice Mag Lev trains have the entire track and the magnetic coils along the track. So, contrary to your assertion We do not have the technology to make a wireless solenoid. The space between the solenoid conductor and the electromagnet is a wireless connection but that always been the case. It usually measures in tiny fractions of an inch or millimeter. Outer space might offer a little more fudge room in that regard. *But now you make me think!* How far can a magnetic flux be extended in space? I do not know the answer to that. Can a laser beam conduct a magnetic flux? I also don't know the answer to that! Can an array of laser beams house a magnetic flux? I do not know that one either. -- -- -- For the pain you have just caused to my brain I am requesting a chocolate milk shake at your expense!

No matter where you live on earth, what color your skin is or what your religious beliefs are, we are all the same immortal, spiritual, cosmic beings of light, vibration and frequency, who love and cherish each other beyond scope and measure when we’re back home together. Most of you, except a very tiny percentage of the population, have forgotten who you really are and where you’re actually from and that we are from one collective source (the creator of all) of energy in the cosmos. Some believers will call this reality or realm ‘Heaven’ or ‘the other side’, but whatever name you do choose to call it, the bottom line, it’s been our true spiritual home since time immemorial. Don’t fear death, there’s nothing to be afraid of because you are going back home to your countless love ones you’ve made over eons of time and space. It’s all the same to me but some people find comfort with labels and there’s nothing wrong with that I suppose. I do believe though, the word ‘Heaven’ has gotten a bit misused over time, because to me it’s not a place you can go, but a feeling of belonging and acceptance and love beyond your wildest imaginations and dreams and desires for the one, known only as, ‘I AM’. Your consciousnesses and your soul are one in the same. Earth is not your real home. The place your consciousnesses goes when you pass away, is all the same thing and again it’s where our spiritual home really is. When you do cross over, It’s simply a matter of closing your eyes here and immediately reopening your eyes there, It happens instantaneously. Actually it happens so fast that most people that have NDE’s (near death experiences) say that at first they didn’t even realize they were dead for a while. Even the ones that died on the operating table in the hospital, for example, have said that as they were out of their bodies temporarily and floating up near the ceiling, they were wondering who was on the table below in the room because they just felt that there wasn’t any way that person could be them. Only when they don’t get a response from someone in the room or suddenly walk through a wall is when they realize something happened to them. You have all lived many, many lifetimes through reincarnation, quite possibly thousands of times, perhaps more. More than likely, you have been every race, gender, ethnicity, color, even every species throughout all the billions of galaxies and the cosmos and lived from every time period going all the way back to the very first inhabitants of every planet that contains life. Again, you are immortal and have died so many times throughout the spectrum of time. Every time your soul comes back to a new being, you and your soul guardian, or as some people like to call them, their guardian angels, will pick your life’s blueprint of what you’re going to do and accomplish. You’re not meant to remember this most times, but there will be some instances where the source creator will let you retain your memories from your full existence and you’ll get to remember them during your journey throughout that particular lifetime’s span, for reasons the source sees fit. If your memories are removed for a particular lifecycle, the creator wants you to discover this throughout that lifetime and on your own, learning lessons from it. If everyone was just told what they had to accomplish or learn every time, they wouldn’t be able to properly get what was needed out of each life. The core learning for each soul and every life time is the ability to love one another and show compassion for each other. For some beings this takes a bit longer and they may want or need to keep coming back until it’s accomplished. For most beings though, I’ve heard they want to finish the lessons and be done with it for good, stating that life on primitive planets such as Earth, is just to hard and they want it to be over with. I would have to agree with that sentiment, life is hard on Earth unless you were born into a family that has everything and everything is done for you and on top of that, you were blessed with wonderful looks or talents that leave you never wanting for anything at all. It’s a fairly low percentage rate of beings this happens to but we’ve probably all experienced a small amount of success in one of our lifetimes or another. Please stop the wars and fighting amongst each other and start to love one another, as it should be. We are spiritual beings having a physical experience, not physical beings having a spiritual experience. Jesus said on the cross: “Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing”. Maybe we will be able to do the same one day, forgive our enemies. I will get some comments sometimes saying, “some don’t deserve it”, but that will be between, them and the creator. If you want any other perspective or guidance on this information, watch the programs called: (The Ghost inside my Child), and NDE’s, (Near Death Experience) testimonials. Most of these are on KZfaq. There are many different channels on KZfaq with different hosts, so try if you can to eventually watch them all. No two experiences are ever the same and all have different information that others won’t have. The more you watch and learn, the better of an understanding you will have of everything I have mentioned in here. Please watch as many of these videos/episodes as you can, because you will get a broader, more detailed understanding of what it’s all about and what’s to come. I promise you, this will completely change your life for the better and you will never fear death again. Some of you have said, “it’s the fear of pain” that you associate with death that you fear mostly and I get that as well believe me. Nobody wants to die of a painful or agonizing illness or disease, especially something as terrible as cancer for example that can go on for years sometimes. It will also give you a complete sense of peace and perspective for all things in your life. You will become exponentially more compassionate towards people and even animals once you learn the truth about it all. You will learn to love yourself first and foremost and that in return, will help you learn to love others better as well. I completely understand if you can’t and/or won’t initially except some of what I’m telling you. But I do hope and pray that you will try to expand your mind from what you’ve been taught. Trying to get rid of what you were taught since birth and accept something completely new and what some have called, ‘fantastical’ isn’t the easiest thing to do, especially if you like the way things are in your life and don’t except change that easy. I myself have been accused by my family and friends for being what they have called ‘Pig Headed’. I’m not that way anymore, I have completely changed since learning the truth. I’ve had some ask me about the situation with babies or young children and cancer or illness, disease and ‘why god takes them at such a young age’. Saying, ‘how’s that fair, they didn’t do anything to deserve that’ or ‘why would they pick a life just to turn around and die’. I initially had issues with all that as well, but over time and learning, it became clear that sometimes the life blueprint that’s picked, is not always about you, but those you choose to be born unto. A mother or father may need to experience or learn humility or sacrifice and yes, sadly the suffering for the loss of a child. I know it sounds cruel but for whatever reason, it was ultimately necessary and the creators plan. We’re not meant to know or understand everything, that’s essentially in the creators hands. I was a nonbeliever and hardcore sceptic when I first heard about this information but the more knowledge one learns and acquires, the more you will realize it all to be true and not just a ‘nice story’, as one guy responded back to me recently. Please don’t ignore this, it has everything to do with why you’re here. Some things are true whether you believe them or not. I would like to say though, that I’m not in any way an expert on the subject or claim to know everything, not even close. I encourage you to do your own research and come to your own conclusions, have a blessed day or night.

1 year on earth doesnt mean 1 year on them. it could be 1 day or 1 week. our definition of time is only relative to us by how we measure 1 revolution of earth to our parent star. for us they travel for hundred of years, but for them, they only travel 1 year or so. depends on how they measure time. and maybe there is a region in space that light is travelling faster than by how we understood light speed limit besides super massive gravity can bend or distort light. who knows.

The speed of light in a vacuum is a universal constant, nothing can travel faster than light, regardless of the gravitational field. At speed c, time is infinite (photons don't "experience" the passage of time) and they travel at speed c because they are massless, once you add mass you can't possibly achieve that velocity. No evidence has been found that there is anything that can hit c except for electromagnetic radiation (and possibly gravitational waves).

If we could pull this kind of activity off, we would have well established “colonies” in all of the remote corners of this planet and the cost of living on destination islands would be no more expensive than living on any mainland. In short, the base economics of space travel will always be a zero sum depletion of earth resources.

Solar sail Spacecraft shipping cargo from where to where. Forgeting one thing distances in space are soooo HUGE that using solar sails is simple not feasible. There are so many problems. First technical. That kind of sail is very fragile and in completly empty space wil be sufficient, but only one alone mateorites, even small one will destroy that sail and that will be end. I dont see any cheance to repair it in empty space. When we will be leaving our solar system light pressure will diminish with distance and with expanding distance between sun and our specacraft just simply slows down and with no access to any close sun with sun wind, spacecraft simply slows down to speed of walking man and that will be just drifting pice of junk in imaginable space. This is like sailship drifting without wind. Another problem, it would take 5ousedns of years to reach any closest objects in space, especialy we dont know acctualy where to go, because we dont know which planets we can acctualy reach to be worth exploring. Tell me how we can decide where to go if we dont have neither technology or information to know which planet or plantes are worth yo explore. Additionaly, solars sails wont resolve problems with powering life supporting system inside spacecraft to actually allow us to survive. Another problem, people evolved to live like maximum 90 or 100 years, unless we find the way to make us imortal, I dont see how we can travel with that kind of slaw ship THOUSENDS years. We can eventualy send people just to reproduce during that trip, and in that case like next generation will reach that distant planet. Howevere we stumble with another problem, how we compress so much biomas enough to support whole crew or next generation. We can for example use hybernation technolgy to freez whole crew for undefined time but again how much energy we would need to provide if we dont really know for how long. To resolve these problems we need to discover new technology which we dont have right now. Only way to efficiently travel in these distances requires to discover some kind Warp drive, directly from StarTrek, otherwise that kind of travels are simply not possible and fact that we dont see any aliens visiting us or even detecting signals from aliens make me rather thinking that these aliens, optimisticaly assuming are more technologicaly advanced than us, didnt resolve problem with long distance travelling and not even long distance communication. I can safety assume that aliens in distant space are only simple bilogical organisms starting evolvin, aliens on level of development our middle ages or possible similar to our development of technology. No chance to communicate or long distant traval whats so ever. We evolve to life and flourish on midium size planet not really for long distant space exploration. Wormholes dosent provide anything. There is no wormhole in our vicinity. Maybe in theortical phisics are possible. But how we can generate them, how we can point them in our destination in distant space. There is no technology to produce or even utilise them. For me they are more possible to discover some kind magical worp drive rather than generate and utilise wormholes. Video focused rather on small problems like our body reaction for lack of 1G garvity instead answering question if we are on the way to technologicaly resolve problems with long distance travel. In some of sf movie I can find more contents than it tha movie. As much as like Neil Tyson, he didnt say anything revolting and interesting, and movie was simply boring with some nice animation. Till we solve problem with our short span life and design some kind magic worp drive we are stuck here possible to the end of our civilisation.

Come on, Neil...are you unironically saying that time dilation makes space travel less interesting? I'd kill to time travel + space travel at once, I hope I come back here and 150 years have passed - hope the future will have far better things than today.

@@MeMe-fb1hi Yes. Using robotic spacecraft we can do that. But humans voyaging in space? We haven't even set up a moon colony yet, even tho we sent humans there 50 years ago. And that's only 3 days travel from earth. Let's see a moon colony first. Then we can talk about doing something more ambitious. Maybe.

Lol 250 years we will resemble a galactic empire, providing warp drive falls in place in the coming years which I see happening before our parents die, assuming your a gen z. (Excluding catastrophic wars) we should have mapped the whole solar system, come the fusion drive before 2040. Atm warp drive is still on a nano scale so we can send seeds to warp but that’s about it until we master anti matter containment either that or negative mass which is already in mid testing stages which should be done before 2050 once again (excluding any major wars or society collapsing events)

If you understand science fact, rather than science fantasy, then you understand that vehicles of extraterrestrial origin have never visited the Earth. The distances to other star systems are too far and thus too expensive in terms of time, energy, and cost to develop and then deploy extraterrestrial vehicles. There is no such thing as faster than light speed travel; physically impossible; always has been, always will be. Ignore all wand waving and focus only what we know that is demonstrable under the known laws of physics.

Good video, but there is literally nothing about Mars that makes it ideal for human colonization. Consider that even the majority of Earth is not colonized by humans, and even the least hospitable place here would be a piece of cake to colonize compared to any place on Mars. Now l am not saying humans will never visit Mars. But visiting and colonizing are different things. To colonize Mars would require advances in technology and many fields of science and human development on a scale of multiple orders of magnitude. And even if we could, anyone living there would face a life that very few could stand.
@fockewulf190d9

Yup, Even Venus would be easier to colonise then Mars. It has an Earth-like gravity (0.904 g), and the atmospheric pressure and temperature 50km above the surface are similar to those at Earth's surface. We just need some habitats that would float on the dense atmosphere and withstand the corrosive amounts of sulfuric acid.

I think it is important to cut the myth of exploring down to size - it is greed or necessity that has driven all explorations, not 'because it is there'. It is very difficult to see Earth becoming richer by spending trillions on interstellar expeditions, rather than improving the lot of the billions on THIS planet. And remember, OVER-population is not going to be our problem in the future, UNDER-population is what we need to fix in the coming centuries. We know that distant star systems do not have 'exotic elements' that haven't been discovered, so WHY we would expand outside the Solar System, or even outside Earth (other than robot probes for scientific purposes), still is a 'solution looking for a problem'.

We better get this idea of traveling to another Earth or terraforming Mars out of our heads. It isn't happening for hundreds or even thousands of years. In the mean time Earth needs our total focus and efforts to keep it habitable and we're doing an absolutely shit job of that.

Apply yourself to a multi-faceted existence, learn and connect to the multiverse the influence is quite powerful, profound, dominant and represents good, light and love, your psyche is key’- Andrew Rogers. The multiverse is a group of multiple universes. Together, these universes comprise everything that exists: the entirety of space, time, matter, energy, information, sentient beings, spirits, spirit guides, gods, goddess and aliens, and the physical laws and constants that describe them. The different universes within the multiverse are called "parallel universes", "other universes", "alternate universes", or "many worlds".
