Went into the movie blind-didn't even know it was supposed to be a dark comedy-and had an absolute blast. I loved the cynicism permeating the film: an asteroid is about to end the world in half a year and people are either denying it exists or trying to exploit it via extremely risky maneuvers or trying to stop others from exploiting it. I enjoyed it because it reflected what I've seen so far during the covid pandemic: countries watching other countries having to go into lockdown for X days after discovering Y covid cases and thinking, "Well, things will be different here. Somehow." We saw country after county go down the exact same path, make the exact same mistakes, only a few days or weeks after the ones that came before. Now, if world leaders cannot adapt when they're seeing the same story play out again and again before their eyes in a matter of weeks, what hope is there for the world as a whole to cooperate and beat climate change when it's so slow and insidious? The best part of the movie, though, was the ending: the billionaires risking everyone's lives because they had a backup plan for themselves and were too sociopathic to care about anyone else.

A video on sentiment recognition would be super cool! I'm currently reading Lisa Feldman Barrett's "How Emotions are Made", which talks a lot about efforts to predict emotions. It'd be interesting to hear about the current ML side of that story!

I've looked a little bit into sentiment recognition at my last job, as more of a data labelling/training capacity. Basically, imo, companies need to be more honest that what they're usually detecting is an expression, and NOT necessarily the emotional/sentimental state of the person. Like, if a person is speaking loudly, doesn't necessarily mean they ARE angry, and if a person is speaking softly, it doesn't necessarily they AREN'T angry.

I absolutely loved this movie. Probably because it gave me a ton of confirmation bias about 21st century society😅. But it was great to hear some thoughts from an actual member of the scientific community. Thanks Jordan❤️

Somehow this video feels like part of a reaction video🤔? I had hoped for more since I appreciate your thoughts about this movie. Thank you anyway!🖖

For a next video I would like to see your viewpoint on stances like "you don't need to be learning everything about ML models as you can just import them and they are fairly simple to use from a coding perspective, and should focus on data science instead", I have worked in ML for almost 3 years now and seen a lot of debate on this topic. Some that say that the math and knowing electrical engineering is really important, while others say that we're reaching a "new age" where ML isn't that hard and shouldn't be.

As a "I wish I knew half the stuff you've forgotten" undergrad Comp Science student, I would like the Machine Learning sentiment analysis video. As for its inclusion in mobiles/cells ect. I can see how it would be useful, specially as someone who has ongoing mental health issues, it can be used to monitor ups and downs in mood and act as a warning for problems and can help in diagnosis for mood disorders, but i would worry about how the data was used and how ethically it was used.

Hi Jordan, would you like to colaborate on a project/paper that's takes takes youtube transcripts and helps generates chapters automatically? It's a very interesting NLP problem. I haven't found many people who explored this problem. This should fall under subfeild of Text summarisation in NLP.

It was hard watching because at the back of my brain I was if we had the mean to detect is going to hit us is way too late to do anything. We just don't have the mean to detect something like this early enought to do anything meaningful. I don't think drilling to is center and dropping all our nuke would change anything at all. You would go from one complex life destroying comet to lots of smaller destroying life on the planet. The thing doesn't need to be as big Mt. Everest if even one the size of skyscraper survive entry to the planet would change the world as we know it. So while it would not destroy all life it would do serious world wide damage.
