Meet Scientology's highest-level defector, Marty Rathbun. As the former Inspector General of Ethics in the organisation, Rathbun worked closely with its leader, David Miscavige, and celebrity follower Tom Cruise. Now he lives in small-town America: a man under siege. With incredible access, this doc captures the shocking measures the church will take to pressurise and discredit defectors. A rare insider-view of the highly secretive organisation.

Exactly. Just to think, all of this was dreamed up by a prolific science-fiction writer. L. Ron Hubbard was a mental case. The practice of scientology hating psychiatry was borne from LRH wanting psychiatry to accept the idealogy he came up with as legitimate & effective (it was not). His idealogy was met with suspicion and skepticism by psychiatrists and doctors, as it should have been. After all, LRH made sensationalist claims that his practices could cure just about anything! Just like Tom Cruise credits scientology for 'curing his dyslexia.' There is no CURE for dyslexia! This is why LRH preached about the "evils of psychiatry," because he had a grudge due to their rejection. So...yeah, saying 'I'm an "independent" scientologist' just shows continued gullibility. An e-meter is SUCH BS.

One of the most common actions of ex-cult members is to look for another, seemingly less abusive cult or create an offshoot of their original cult. This behavior is similar to the behavior of domestic abuse survivors, who seem to always end up in a relationship with another abuser, because that's all they know, that's their familiar territory, where they feel comfortable.

When bsquirrel Buster's come, the yeah, they will stand up for themselves against the harassment. What former members often like to do is spread the word of their horrible experience . And that is a major freaking public service. 😊

While I totally support former members that have left the "organization," (I call it an organization because it is by no means neither a church nor a religion...L. Ron Hubbard termed it a "church" because of CONVENIENCE & $$$ reasons only!) & their attempts to fight back from the harassment from the organization, for a former member to still "practice" scientology is just INSANE. Maybe I'm too much of a black & white thinker, but if a former member cannot see through ALL of scientology's BS, then there's still a big problem. I think Marty has continued his "practice" of scientology because he was in there for so long & it's a pretty sure-fire way to produce income for himself & his wife. What else does he know how to do except harassing & steamrolling people's will to conform to what scientology expects or wants of them? After all, that was basically his job in scientology..he was a pit bull of sorts. Sad but true. Doing the e-meter was also what he was good at, thus a great way to earn some money doing something he is very practiced in.

Now he’s settled his lawsuit with scientology and is back attacking the very people he used to call friends. That’s what Marty does best: play the attack dog and let himself be used. Scientology is probably blackmailing him. That’s how they work. They have degraded Marty to the level of an animal yet these are the people who claim to be the saviors of mankind. Something for David to keep in mind. Both men believe they will live for billions of years. With that kind of lifespan would you really want someone like Marty that mad at you? If you really believe in scientology, if he doesn’t come for you the first billion years he will go after you the second billion years. That would scare the hell out of me and it’s what David M has waiting for him. A mad dog he himself created. May God have mercy on his soul but neither man believes in god.

In the shadows, whispers, minds they sway, Crafting narratives, leading minds astray. Brainwashing beats, a hypnotic blend, Lost in illusions, where realities bend. Manipulation's rhythm, a subtle groove, Controlling thoughts, like a cunning move. Echoes of persuasion, a relentless rhyme, Invisible chains, weaving over time. Verse by verse, they mold the perception, A lyrical dance, sparking mind infection. Chorus of control, in the mental abyss, Cunning words linger, a hypnotic twist. But beware the sway of the mind's terrain, Break free from verses that bind like a chain. Question the rhythm, seek truth's embrace, In the rap of life, choose your own pace. You get me!

This was already done by Lawrence Wolershiem, when he escaped Scientology’s Sea Org. He then started Integrative Spirituality, also based off a yacht, in Sausalito California. He left his son behind (in Scientology), his son then died… Larry W showed no sign of any loss around the death of his son. Larry also threatened to expose Scientology but eventually one a settlement for 100’s of million’s of dollars..! He did do some good by “deprogramming” people who escaped, but the guy would wander around Sausalito with a gun in a concealed holster.

@lizs5709: We don’t know that, but certainly people begin to have a different perspective when they suffer the consequences of their behavior. People deserve a chance to make things right, they need to live their lives in peace. I suspect he is doing what he needs to for his family. We all have marks on our character to some degree; I think he has paid for his past involvement with the church. Not having any personal knowledge of the situation, I admit this is my opinion based on speculation, but I sincerely hope that is true, because Scientology is a serious and dangerous group.

It doesn't really matter whether he is in the church or not. The issue is the level of HARASSMENT that he and his wife (and others) are subjected to. If you subjected a known 'Sex Offender' to this level of harassment, you would wind up in court or jail. FREEDOM OF RELIGION is a cornerstone of America and other free countries, by harassing someone like this you are NOT letting them worship freely. The police should step in and move these people on and also have a presence on site whilst the 'Squirrel Busters' are anywhere near anyone subjecting anyone to harassment as they would be if it was for anything else.

But those who were abused never wanted to have anything to do with scientology. What shocks me the most is that has never expressed any regrets for being abusive and ruined other peoples lives. How would you still want to practice independent scientology?
