This is a sequel to my most viewed and controversial video, along with a remade version of the original-featuring a revised collection of clips-in the same video. Think Evil Dead II.
I was actually really contemplating over whether or not I should make this. The original video was made for one exclusive reason: to show my love for one of my favorite movies of all time. And, at least, half of the conversations that it started were negative. They were either negative towards me, suggesting that I was-somehow-some sort of Christian anti-sex mother for pointing the details out, or that I was some sort of over-objectifying pervert for pointing the details out, or that I was being an asshole because there were no details to point out. Or they were negative towards the movie, for having the details, which really fucked me up.
Anyway, the first film's screenplay (written by James Gunn) was originally going for a PG-13 rating with a darker tone, and a lot more sexual innuendos and weed jokes. Shaggy was going to be a full on stoner; Daphne and Velma were supposed to a have a relationship of some kind, but-when the first cut was given an R-rating-it was heavily re-edited into the film it is now, where most of these aspects are completely gone. For example: they, apparently, "CGI'd away" a lot of cleavage; something I've read and re-read so many times, and still don't understand the meaning of. I mean, I understand the concept, but I don't understand what it means for the movie. Either it's not true; or they reverted back to not covering the cleavage; or they did, but then cut those sequences out, completely, anyway. Or the aforementioned "CGI" is just so incredible good that it looks like clothes, while it's covering up absolute cleavage or something.
Footage: Scooby-Doo (2002), Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004).

This is my love letter to the R-rated cut of Scooby-Doo (2002). The title doesn’t mean that I think this is Hostel: Part IV, or that kids shouldn’t watch these films, or shouldn’t be allowed to. These specific parts are just things that would fly over a child’s head, and are definitely targeted towards older kids and adults since the original film was originally given an R-rating (you can read the details of that in the description, if you want). Also, a lot of people are trying to correct me by saying that Scooby was actually saying "hydrochronic," which is stupid because A: that's not what he's saying, and B: why would they want to stay away from that?

@@ofearghailthefearless6481 No need for alarm. Just because the film was meant to be more adult-oriented doesn’t mean that that idea was the result of smoking. That’s very lazy thinking. You have to understand the mindset of the time period in which the movie came out. Someone on another video did a pretty good job of summarizing it: “The studio wanted a Scooby Doo film that would get adults in go see it in droves. Jaded and cynical 90s young adults, specifically. It was I’m sure a pervasive belief at the time among the suits, and probably many creatives as well, that adults at that time would simply not buy in to a sincere, unironic, straight-forward Scooby-Doo live action movie. That it’d be taken as a lame joke and immediately flop. Keep in mind, nostalgia culture had yet to explode via the internet into what we understand today. It was a different time. Of course the ironic thing is, the studio then proceeded to chicken out and gutted James Gunn’s original vision for what was supposed to be a PG-13 relatively mature deconstruction. But the basic idea for what it needed to be still stood intact.” A lot of films at the time were full of irreverent (and occasionally raunchy) humor. Even adaptations of previously established works were tongue-in-cheek, and Scooby-Doo was no exception. It was about taking what people knew about the franchise and poking fun at and subverting it, which sometimes included putting a darker and/or more suggestive twist on it.

Easily. It was at the time a comedic inversion of the extremely tame "Who's your daddy," as openly expressing Oedipal lust for your own mother was still considered pathetic and shameful. On an unrelated note, the amount of men having no sex and getting very angry about it has skyrocketed since around that point in history. Then they became chill because they convinced themselves they chose it, none of them will reply to this comment, they're that chill

This is how kids movies should be! Parents can enjoy it and what kids don't understand goes right over their heads. It's exactly what kids films are missing now. Most use to be like this and we aren't any worse off for it. I think more thought and effort is put into the script when a film with a target audience considers everyone, hence decently entertaining even if a bad film.

The only way they would see breast as inappropriate at such a young age is failed parenting and being raised by adults willfully ignorant of the human body... What exactly is a sexual joke to a kid? I'm not saying they should but you can definitely make a movie enjoyable for all audiences without sterilizing the material based around unrealistic "dangers".

Scooby 1 went through a LOT of changes. A LOT. The first few scripts were just adult jokes and it was modeled after I know what you did last summer and scream, and everyone loved Buffy, so ...lots of her doing her buffy thing. Almost no shag and scoob. Scooby was mostly a real dog. They told us he would never have to walk on 2 legs. Everyone in the upper management thought it would be buffy and Fred that would be the draw for people to see the film, not scoody and shaggy. Shag and Velma both showed up for the cast and crew screening, Fred and Buffy did not. It was NOT supposed to be a kids film. Later, people complained, the film should have more scooby since... well... he is the title character. So ... more rewrites, and reshoots. This is why the clothing changes. It's also why Daphnie looks like her boobs change size, and her clevage disappears a lot. We had to paint a lot of it out, to get the lower rating. People still said it needs to feel like a scooby show, so... the dumbasses they are decided on adding Scrappy. The most annoying character in history. The FX team worked on more shots than any live action character was in. Meaning Scooby was in more shots than Fred, Buffy, Velma, or Shaggy, and yet the FX team only got like 200 credits, when like 500 people worked on it. WB said that is just how their films go: FX only get 200 credits... always. Something about the length of the film reels, and FX are not Union. The second film, they knew the audience better.

@@gowthamkrishna1568 yeah, and the animation director was awesome to work with. always pushing for more cartoony, and more fun. It was the writers, and the way high up management that wanted this to be about Buffy and Fred. I think there were over 20 scripts that got finaled. Also... Scooby's voice was not the original guy, from the TV shows. Not the official guy. That guy was apparently really expensive and hard to agree with his timings. Instead they went with a guy who did the previs for the show. A scooby impersonator from Australia or NZ, and they liked his voice so much, they decided to use him for the final product.

@@SmoothCriminal12 yeah. All of us kept pushing for it to be more like the scooby we grew up with. The people in charge acted like they either didn't watch the original shows, or felt it was safer to go with what worked (ie. buffy and I know what you did last summer). The guy you should thank is Leon Joosen (animation Director). He actually had the ear of the upper management, and push constantly to make it more fun, and more like the cartoons. Rough fight, but he did get some of what he wanted. It was a shock to everyone when they added Scrappy. He would have us push the animation until the rig broke, then pull it back a little. The rig was never originally supposed to be anything other than a normal dog at first, and had to be reworked several times to allow the more exaggerated movements. One of the more fun films to work on.

I was obsessed with these movies as a kid and noticed none of these jokes. Now I'm equally obsessed with these movies as an adult because the writing and comedy is actually genius.
