Yes. I really like Taken By Force. Uli Roth added a bit of a Hendrix type of vibe to their music. Hearing his single-coil Strat in front of Rudy Schenker’s thick humbucker sound have it a bit of a jangly Rickenbacker-ish type of sound.

Back in 78/79 I had never seen the Scorps play live. But after listening to Speedys Coming (as a drummer) over and over again...I figured out how it was played. Nobody that I knew, could not play that break in Speedys Coming. I eventually learned all the Scorps songs and drum solos... Great and Fun stuff to learn!

Yes, more Uli Roth era Scorpions please. This one is actually a lip sync to the studio version. Many people here in the states aren't very aware of this period of Scorpions because these albums were only available as imports until maybe the late 90's or later before they were finally released here.

GREAT choice! The Scorpions (especially in the 70's) have been around a long time, and were one of the hard rock bands that helped usher in the Heavy Metal genre. No doubt early Scorps with Uli kicks ass and is indeed sadly overlooked. One of my favorite Uli numbers is "Longing For Fire" from 'In Trance'. Sweet little number with a heavy rhythm but very melodic. I feel fortunate to have grown up in LA during the late 80's and having the legendary rock station 105.5 KNAC play music and bands not found in regular pop or AOR stations. Your videos bringing back many memories. Thank you.

Back then, Van Halen just got started...but we as a Rock Band played our covers of the Scorps and UFO. Lots of good music in the Late 70's and early 80's!

Funny story, I actually was aware of this song for many years since Uli Jon Roth (lead guitarist) wrote a small article in Guitar World magazine teaching how to play the opening riff back in... 2004-ish? I knew what the riff sounded like, but had no idea what the whole song sounded like. Anyways, I didn't hear the actual song itself until maybe 2012 and was blown away by how it sounded.

dude, the Scorpions of yesteryear were the happening thing, starting with "Lonesome Crow" 1972 with Micheal and Rudolf Schenker, Fly to the rainbow 1974 Schenker brothers but Micheal left to join UFO, In Trance 1975. Virgin Killer 1976, Taken by force 1977, Uli Jon Roth leaves, Tokoyo Tapes 1978, Mathias Jabs and Micheal Schenker help out on Love drive 1979, Micheal help out after leaving UFO in 79 and had his debut LP in 1980 (The Micheal Schenker Group), Animal Magnetism 1980 all of those albums are way better than most of the new preppy stuff they began to release with 1982 Blackout. You know what I am not going to even ask what or why because I truly understand everyone's circumstances. I truly recommend checking out Micheal Schenker one of the pioneers of the Scorpions and the progressive metal and hard rock as it was beginning in those days

Uli and Yngwie were always on good terms and are friends. You can hear so much in this song of how Yngwie was influenced by Uli! Yngwie incorporated arpeggios a lot more, but so much of the scale stuff was already there, in Uli's playing from way back in the 70's. It's kind of like the way you can hear Bach in Mozart's work.

Hands down my favorite Scorpions song that not many people know about. Testament did a cover of this and man it is heavy as fuck but to be honest this is heavy and metal as fuck for its time! High school in the mid 90's is when I first heard this song and I was playing guitar and all into shred like Yngwie Malmsteen and a very archaic internet, people were into that pearl jam grunge garbage lol I first heard testaments version and seeing the writers as Scorpions. Blew my mind! Had to get the the original song. I had to import it from Japan via the local record store.

Few songs that I an recall that open up with a unbelievably rocking solo and then proceeds with a driving rock beat than Sails of Charon. Boston's Foreplay/Longtime is another. Its interesting though how most Americans who are Scorpions fans were introduced to them in the early 80s from their "Blackout" album and videos which received heavy rotation on MTV. What many didn't realize was the Scorps had been around for twenty years prior in one form or another. Uli John Roth is a awesome and this is but one song that displayed his talent.

This was not a "Live" performance. The audio was taken straight from the studio album. It was a lip-sync type of performance. My only proof is that I have listened to Sails if Charon since 1977. Rich u came into Scorpions around '82. I have to tell you again that I am from San Antonio, we were so lucky as Rock fans to have our radio station, KMAC/KISS play so much of this great music In the 70s and 80s. Sails of Charon was a huge radio hit as well as Steam Rock Fever. But it's safe to say, all or nearly all tracks from that album got airplay in San Antonio, either by Joe Anthony the Godfather or Lou Roney. So, yes we're the lucky ones. I mean, they even played 70s Supertramp, like Fools Overture (huge hit here as well). I will mention again, they helped make a lot of bands. They heavily promoted and played many of Canada's 70s rockers, many of which became headlining artists, including Rush, Triumph and April Wine (keeping the list short, cuz there are others!). All these bands were relative unknowns throughout, but they were already huge in San Antonio. Thanks KnR

I understand you totally, after listening scorpions for the last 33 years but only knowing scorpions from the 80s and forward. Until I listened to this music and we'll burn the sky. I was crazy astonished like you. Then I had to listen the all 70s scorpions but go for the Tokyo tapes first, you will love. Strange enough, when they release their world wide live, they made you think that their 80's was their only style. But man their 70's were so ahead and more progressive, which unfortunately makes me think that their 80's were more "commercial". Imagine what would they achieve with this progressive, but, maybe nothing reason why me and you would never know nothing of them. Go immediately to pictured life

Hi guys. A lot of German/Dutch music went under the radar - even in Europe! The Scorpions, VDG, Bauhuas, Focus, TanDream, Faust etc etc. A lot of it was English/US music bias in record companies as they owned the big labels. Very few 'foreign' bands got the promotion they deserved. There is a wealth of progressive/rock continental music just waiting to be undearthed, you've made a start!
