What a first touch by Dalglish for his goal. You have to wonder whether Clemence's mistake was partly down to not having recovered from the knock he had just taken. Loved the football from this era.

My very first proper game, my dad’s friend was on security and got my mum,dad and myself in the old wooden stand opposite the main stand . I was 11. Used to love the home internationals.

I was in the Rangers end at this game, had a great view of Dalglish putting the ball through Clemence's legs for the winner. Then the clouds of dust coming up as the fans celebrated.

Coleman’s commentary was superb. People thought he was biased back then but listen to his commentary at the 74/78 World Cups. Totally behind Scotland as the only home nation to compete.

my grandad and dad always used to tell me about this type of football, when he said football was at its peak for scotland, as my grandad came to over 45+ matches for scotland, some he may have snuck in but he said it was all worth it to see dalglish. wish i was alive during this time

Going by today's prices, there is about £1.5 billion worth of talent on display there. Today's primadonnas wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes on that pitch.

At certain points there's a dramatic expressiveness to some of the players, Stuart Pearson at 3.46 when he knocks Rough and nods as if to say 'Yes, yes, I accept my behaviour there was ungentlemanly' and Kenny Dalglish at 5.12 after he hit Clemence as if to say 'Whit did ah dae?'

I was there. :D Great memories. After the match we were walking back to the railway station for our train north to Aberdeen and an SFA bus came slowly through our ranks. Being tall I spotted a spiky haired individual poking his head up over the back seats and looking back at us ....it was Rod Stewart! It only took a few seconds before us fans were singing "Sailing" with Mr Stewart "conducting" us from the bus. What a way to end a fantastic day. :)

Great exciting players, and a proper football commentator, David Coleman. Footballers today , are overpaid spoilt bastards , who dive all over the pitch, and only care about one thing, money.

I was there as a 15 year old in the old North stand above the terraces. What was the crown? Officially it must have been 115,000, but the Hampden park gatekeepers h would let anyone in for a note! At least another 10.000. Great atmosphere just from fans and never to be repeated sadly

If football was like this, I'd go miles to watch. I don't like the game today - players with red, yellow, green, white shoes, jerseys tucked out, tattoos, strange haircuts...I don't like the style of play either. Today's football does not turn me on at all. But there was a time when football was pristine and there was glory.

Those Scots in the 60s, 70s, 80s had great world class players beating England was normal and expected how England has gone backwards since we won WC at home in 1966, then the first team to be us was guess who? Yes Scotland 😭

Both teams had great players in their ranks then and were quite evenly matched. Despite his mistake allowing Dalgliesh's shot between his legs Ray Clemence was a superb goalkeeper and in this respect England were far superior as Alan Rough was at best 'very average'

the second goal reminded me the blooper of Robert Green when US goal tied against England, seems like English goalkeepers are kind of distracted when England is having the game under control.

Every time Scotland plays England at Hampton Park ( every 2 years) there are always nice sunny day.

Scotland had a brilliant side back then. Certainly better than England's. They remained decent until at least the millennium and normally qualified for tournaments. They produced players like Souness, Law, Dalglish, McCoist, Strachan, McAllister, Gemmill, Hutchinson etc, the list goes on. Why are those Scottish players now? Both England and Scotland suffer the same problem with blazers who are behind the times and not enough good coaching and skill put into their national teams. Both countries need a shake-up in youth development from top to bottom. I know that we have so many foreign players in the Premier League where British players, especially Scottish ones, used to dominate but blame must also be put at the SFA's door, along with the FA down in England. We both need the types of organisation they have in Germany with ex-players on top on the football associations.

You can really see the lack of structure, continuity or confidence in the England team by this point. Revie clearly didn't have much of a plan or real idea what his best team was.
