Scotland Remembers Easter Uprising 1916

Caught this "Easter Rising" parade through Glasgow City centre on Saturday 26th March 2023
The Easter Rising, also known as the Easter Rebellion, was an armed insurrection in Ireland during Easter Week in April 1916. The Rising was launched by Irish republicans against British rule in Ireland with the aim of establishing an independent Irish Republic while the United Kingdom was fighting the First World War. It was the most significant uprising in Ireland since the rebellion of 1798 and the first armed conflict of the Irish revolutionary period. Sixteen of the Rising's leaders were executed from May 1916. The nature of the executions, and subsequent political developments, ultimately contributed to an increase in popular support for Irish independence.

The great victories of the five Celtic peoples are their marvellous culture and identity, (3,000 years plus, and as strong as ever ), the fact that they are rising while their enemies are sinking, and the fact that they are delighted to be Celtic, while their enemies are ashamed of themselves.

Speaking as a British ex serviceman who is 62 percent Northern Irish, i think the members of the uprising would be embarrassed at this "parade" too many big bellies, no iron's used and crap "marching"

That was the plan my friend for it to be a failure and for executions and for it to eventually lead to peace a British withdrawal from Ireland, the unification of Ireland is coming because politics will work in the end..our flag says it all peace between the orange and the green, its never changed, unionism is being left behind the British and the European Union will eventually unify Ireland

Who do have a shared history with Scotland, who fought side by side in the 17th century to defeat James II. The Easter rising was half a century after the famine. Remember that the leaders of the 1916 uprising were both Socialist and Nationalist, leading the national struggle against british imperialism and the socialist struggle against both domestic and foreign exploiters.
