Gran Canaria Playa Del Ingles avoid this famous scam and join me as I walk back to my apartments at the Irish Centre Green Park Apartments.

When I was in Gran Canaria in 1996, I went down to that closed nightclub downstairs which at the time was called The Hippodrome. Great nightclub. It also had great jewellery shops on the lower level which had air conditioning I remember.

Reason The Plaza shopping centre is closed down, is there was an electrical fire in 1 of the units, leading to the whole place potentially needing rewiring. No one wants to pay for it. Sad state of affairs.

I used to love going kasbah about 10 years back. Now we avoid the place like yhe plague.the touts drive you insane to the point they followed us into shops.

20+ years ago they had the same scam in Tenerife, “free drinks for two hours” - slow service and bottles only, had to take your empty to the bar to get a new one, but the glass/bottle collectors would pick up your near empty bottle & then you couldn’t get a new one 😔

20 yrs ago I was there a few times and that was the hippodrome etc down the escalators, I can remember when that place was THE place in that part of the centre……. Crazy to see the place so dead… wow, so glad we have booked for meloneras next year

Hi we stayed in Las arenas in October 2021 the shopping centre was closed then was derelict. We stayed in Green Field in May and Tagoror in September 2022 not many people around and more places closed down.

Never let reps take you into discos or bars because they will order the drinks and you pay twice as much , ask at the bar how much a drink is and only give them that much, than you can't get sort changed , ps not all bars are like that most ok

Last time I was in GC I was in the Bull Eugenia Victoria, great hotel with underground spa, and a rooftop terrace for sunbathing. Food was also great. But not impressed with the area, run down and very dated, dusty, broken pavement tiles, a bit dis-jointed when it came to bars etc, there is just no comparison when you compare to Tenerife, lovely and clean, modern, just a great place to be. I'm trying Fuerteventura in December, first time there for me.

Will let you know in a few weeks of Tenerife or Gran Can is our fave,when we go to Puerto de la cruz and then playa del ingles. That scam goes on in the UK as well, to get the place looking busy for free.

Hard to compare those resorts a bit different , Puerto de la cruz lovely down past church and old town I have done lots of videos there. Molly malones for late night live music.

Sure one of those bars was called Scandvik, I'm guessing Swedish or something, down in that circle, this was 2002 ish, couldn't move up and down the escalators then, packed. All changed now

Hi wee Kev.I.N I have stayed at the Corona Blanca apartments several times, good holiday flats and better still after they were refreshed several years ago. Jet2 holidays sell 'basic flats' or the 'de luxe' flats holidays 🧐 There was a real problem with cockroaches in the development at one time (it's a common problem all over GC island) I hope they cleared the roaches when it was refreshed. Saying that I would stay in the Corona Blanca anytime. There are other bigger scams to worry about in PdI than night club tickets 😎😎 Cheers DougT

Had a picture on them stairs at the shopping centre 2mins in on a barcrawl 18 years ago. Woke up on a wall outside pasha and someone had stole my trainers 😬 was bouncing back then so sad really

Only been to Gran Canaria once and nearly got scammed by timeshare touts, they where rife and hard sell everywhere. Put me off for ever.

Kevin, last time I went to Gran Canaria, just before the Pandemic, PDI and Puert Rico were crawling with timeshare touts. Are they still about?

Most have all left. I used to work for Anfi and Club Puerto Atlantico as a liner and an OPC for timeshare companies. Left in 2010 and so did everyone else I knew.

You mean, within the Canary islands. Otherwise, the Marquesas Islands, Bora Bora, Seychelles, Fiji, and a few thousand other islands, may be slightly more appealing, in some cases.

Playa del Ingles start dropping from 2004 after a couple of deaths and this paved the way for an increase in moochers, touts, scammers etc I reckon the PRs smothering tourists by order of the bar owners pushed tourists away also.. the place is a shell of its former self

First went to Playa de Ingles 1985 and went back in 2008 couldn't believe how much it had gone down hill. Dont think Masplomas even existed in the 80s but the Kasbah used to be the main place to party. It seems stuck in the 80s. We used to go down the famous guatemala campsite by Mogan for 3 months back in the 80s.

That Kasbah was rocking 30 yrs ago , we used to get pounced on by prostitutes walking back from the Irish centre back to our hotel in the Yumbo area ,Maspolamas was just a golf course and nude beach, think ill stick to the reef Kev much better vibe ,part of the enjoyment of watching your videos shows where to avoid

GC defo not a patch on Tenerife! Just my opinion but I found it a bit grubby. Hubby liked it so went back for a 2nd time but won't let him talk me into it again 🤣

Looks like Chinawhite has moved from the top of the kasbah to where pacha was located. Incidentally have done the party boats where they added free VIP tickets with a bottle of bubbly, if you paid €10 extra per person.

@@garycox740 yip got video it was dead when I went , it's actually massive inside with lots of bars so probably hard to fill. I find shopping centres everywhere in canaries pretty dead during the day.

The Yumbo Centre is pretty much your only option I'd agree and it's dead during the day. I went to Tipsy Hammock too every day last time as not much to do just a good crimbo deal. Had a nice fish and chips and watched a good live singer doing rock music 60s and 70s etc. from Dundee with another musician at Mulligans at the Irish Centre but for three adults sitting there having pub grub and drinks it was silly money dearer than Magic or any of the nicer bars in Del Duque or the safari centre in a pretty run down area, oh and the kasbah Centre was closed too.

Shit, well the comments are disappointing, was going to book a holiday here tomorrow but it doesn't sound too attractive. I worked there years ago back in the 80s touting people into the bars. It was a lot of fun back in the day. Any ideas where I can travel from the U.K to somewhere hot that the flight isn't too long. Thanks

Best thing to do is go to the gay bars in the yumbo. They are quite mixed gay/straight anyway but they don't have touts and they don't rip you off. Just avoid the straight bars with touts.

I have been to Tenerife on 4 occasions and Gran Canaria on around about 15 times. Now I'm Gay so GC does have a certain attraction for my community, but I do feel these videos are very biased towards Tenerife. Each to tneir own I suppose.

My mate lives in GC Kev, last time I went to see him was at least 10-12 years ago and the Kasbah and surrounding area was a dump then, the escalators were out of order and rusting, brasses were doing blowies in the bushes, it was and still is a complete 💩hole, you never felt safe there like you do in Tenerife, bout time they spent money on it or Semtex it😂
