They talk about John Wick bringing back the Hong Kong style of action to Hollywood but the fact that much of JW 4 was choreographed on the spot is truly in keeping with the spirit of the HK approach. Heavily improvised without any pre-vis where the action directors would have some basic idea of what they'd want but end up making completely unexpected and whimsical changes at the last minute.

I used to. Been closely following Scott's career since Undisputed 2 but have realized how ineptly Hollywood generally utilizes physical talent, the John Wick franchise (especially 4) being an exception to that rule. If, after its success, producers start to greenlight more 87eleven type of projects, then I'd love to see what Scott could do with high-profile roles.

Yes! Pleasant surprise to see this, absolutely loved this talk! As great as your spot on his Art of Action podcast - could listen to you gents go on for days. Hopefully John Wick 4's success and other recent films with stronger stunt teams who know what they're doing all help bring on a new wave for the action and martial arts centric stuff in cinema/media. Fingers crossed! And here's hoping we see you and Scott work on something together in the future! Would love to see you two host a round table of stunt/action folks talking. Looking forward to the next Action Talk!

I really appreciate him since the movie " Shepherd Border Patrol " but to be honest i started fallow is career since Ninja 2: The Shadow of the tear and The Expendables 2. Scott Adkins is a great martial artist, martial arts and action star and a big Actor. He becomes very well known and he still humble, that's is awsome. I hope it becomes even more famous and successful in his career and personal life too. Congratulations for you Scott Adkins and Éric Jacobus. From 🇫🇷 by a 🇵🇹 fan Kinds regards.

It may never get back to like it was in the 90s where there were tons of guys doing it, now still just a few, Like look at this list on the A side you had Chuck Norris, Van Damme, Seagal, Jet Li, Wesley Snipes, jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, then on the B side you had Lorenzo Lamas, Jahl Merhei, Cynthia Rothrock, Bolo Young, Billy Blanks, Richard Norton, Oliver Grunner, Jeff Wincott, no way there will be that many all at once ever again.

The thing with Bruce Lee, as he says, is you know, often even before you know anything about Martial arts. Is that he is the ultimate martial artist. I felt the same thing when I started out, when I was around 18. I read it in one of his books that Linda Lee published. In the forward, that he was the greatest martial artist of all time. And therein lies the problem. In western society we are conditioned for hype and the cult of personality. The more I learned of him, as well as the more I learned of martial arts, and especially when I began really learning Shaolin Kung Fu, I am less inclined to accept hype.

It’s funny because you see people on his videos saying how Scott is one of the best fighters ever and I always say this….hes not a fighter….and then people get all pissy at me for saying that but he’s not…I mean even Scott wouldn’t call himself a fighter he’s said himself here he did his martial arts because he always wanted to get into movies that’s for the most part why he was training so much when he was younger and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Now I’m sure he can handle himself if he ever needed to but there’s a difference between martial artist and fighter and Scott is a great martial artist and he’s a great guy no ego and doesn’t pretend to be anything he’s not (apart from his movie roles where it’s his job to pretend he’s someone he’s not lol)

@16:45 i always had these same questions... why is it that US producers don't believe that long and elaborate fights would work or even make any difference in a movie. one of the cases that i always recall is Rush Hour, they bring Jackie and his stunt team and somehow they just decide to shoot a few short fight sequences, super basic, even edited with unnecessary cuts, etc.?! i think to remember Brett Ratner talking about that, like he had figured out the right formula or ratio for these scenes. And obviously, after the movie made all those millions in the BO, it's hard to argue with him if the decision was right or wrong. however, we do know today that the John Wick series has demonstrated that the american audience definitely CAN enjoy these long fight scenes... yet, we can't go back in time and have Jackie make them anymore ☹☹☹

Duck Dynasty Ranger!!!!!!!!!!! I like Adkins, he appears to be a very nice, humble family man. But he is extremely tall or appears to be so and this presents a bit of a problem in the genre. These movies are often shot in Asian areas complete with stunt doubles. He towers over them and often has to hunch over at 6-3 or 4. It looks a bit comical and it is difficult to suspend disbelief. With Bruce Lee, Norris, Van Damme, Cynthia Rothrock, Don the "Dragon" Wilson, Jackie Chan etc. logistically it must be less of a nightmare. I know these movies are tightly budgeted but to keep improving the genre that I adore I suggest he. A) Have stunt doubles attack from above or low angle shot the villain like in Halloween to give them a boost. B) Have his stunt doubles play dual roles as henchman C) Infuse more comedy into his fight choreography to take focus off of his height like Jackie Chan. A) fighting in cars while green screen driving B) fighting in chairs C) fighting while his top half of his body is stuck in an elevator. D) Fighting while in the water. E) Fighting in Smoke F) Fighting in Thermal Vision Decent interview, felt more like a beer 🍺 chat with a friend. My favorite Adkins role is the first Universal Soldier movie he did. Lastly I want him to do a movie with Ray Park aka Darth Maul MAKE IT SO SCOTTY!!!!!!

UFC fighters automatically think they can being in a action movie jsut because they are real fighters, but that is not the case movie fighting is way different, lots goes into it plus if they have dialog they havr to able act to and not all of them can.

that move on 45:17, kinda pointless breakdance sloppy swipes onto back, im a b-boy myself since 2000 but it looks weak, im sure some stunt guy was practicing breakdance for like 2 months and wanted to showoff in previs and its not a good looking one, bent legs and all, id take scott asthetics over that shit and im biased toward breakdance but i dont really like beginners looking shit especially in slowmo, i loved that scott is changing his look for character he's playing this should totally be his style, like christian bale, it started with boyka and should continue so scott would be known for martial arts and for transforming his look for characters, im pretty sure hes the first martial arts guy that does it, just look at the recent "whale" and what it did, people like these things especially if it goes with the story

16:25 DO. I. EVER Damon has a ‘punch me’ face. I heard he’s crap during fight scenes (heard, actually saw since I watched the flicks. Lol) worst out & hit stunt guys just like Seagal, yet no one constantly bashes him over it. At least Seagals fights looked good in early flicks, Damon’s always overcompensating with over edited /too close, or shaky cam to hide stunt men doing all his actual cool parts.
