My stable includes an original aluminum Mukluk, a Ti Mukluk and a Bucksaw. I've had a carbon Beargrease with a bluto as well. I do own a fully and rigid 29ers as well. No doubt the the Bucksaw is my singletrack go to bike. I use the Ti as my winter and gravel grinder here in Iowa. I do miss the carbon. It is in my opinion it is a more efficient bike than the Ti all around. But my advice to you is , get chew a fatty and go ride man.

I'm leaning towards a carbon with no suspension. I have an all mountain bike also. I think the no suspension and big tires would be a hoot on these trails by my house. (North Vancouver, BC) what would you suggest as a first fat bike? Suspension or not?

Go with the carbon rigid and see how it feels to start. It'll be the best for snow riding up you way for sure. If it beats you up a bit, throw a Bluto on it and call it good. Then you could always add a fully fatty to your stable down the road.

Good plan, I'll keep an eye out for frames that can except the Bluto and a rigid. Thanks for your help.

Derick, I started at the top with Shy Ann to Long trail in the middle all the way to Jury Duty. If you watch the second video, I finished up with Boot Camp.

I test rode this Scott Big Ed yesterday. Of course all bicycles are fun, but first thing I noticed is a slight more rolling resistance, which is to be expected, and I was able to safely roll off curbs and such without the nose dropping like it does with 29" bikes. However another thing I noticed was the un-sprung weight can really beat you up, and abuse your back and spine, but thats all a trade off for having a fat bike.

I have a Bluto and a Thud-Buster on my Carbon Beargrease for my back and bad shoulders.

Nice run Phil! Well done! I have been to Trestle a few times myself and always had a full suspension. Last year I fell in love with fatbikes and was thinking about doing the same thing, nice to see you did it so well. A Bucksaw would probably destroy this trail. What tire pressure were you running on this run? Tubeless?

What did you think of the bike? Ridden any other fat bikes? Badass to see that out at Trestle.

My stable include a 2010 Mukluk, 2012 Beargrease and waiting on delivery of my Bucksaw, so im pretty versed in chubby rides. The Scott Big Ed was a riot on about every trail and gave me several pucker moments on Rain Maker. I think the combination of the Bluto and the 4.5" tires helped to soak up everything from the top of the mountain to bottom. Since I have put a Bluto on the Greaser and love it on our local trails here in central Iowa.

finally a video of someone shredding a fat bike how its suppose to be. Tired of watching videos of people riding fat bikes like geeks.

scott hoelzel My thoughts exactly all the other videos I've seen are either of pro's who to be fair could ride any bike well enough for it look good or people riding like it's pretty much their first time on a bike - this is a breath of fresh air.- nice one.

What tire pressure were you running?

Jon, I had 12 lbs in both the front and rear to start. After letting a little air out, I'd guess both to be at somewhere between 9-10 lbs.

Hi, does the bike feel heavy ore what?
@byknphil7 жыл бұрын
Not at all. Prolly weighing in at 33 pounds. Plut I only shoe fat bikes. The bucksaw is a frigging blast on the downhills.
