If Pep was manager, Harry Kane wouldn't have played. He's shown you can make the big decisions by leaving out the likes of Aguero and Haaland whilst being in charge of Manchester City. He also wouldn't have played Foden if Foden wasn't giving him what he needed (see the back end of the 2022-23 season). That's the difference between a world class manager and someone average though. And no matter what, Southgate's faith in Kane was nowhere near as ridiculous as Martinez's faith in Ronaldo. I cannot believe that yet another country are trusting Roberto Martinez with their golden generation. Have Portugal learned nothing from Belgium?

England gave themselves 2 massive handicaps. First, they played with 10 men in each game by playing Kane. Second, Southgate abandoned the left side of the pitch by: - not taking at least ONE fit left back - not playing a left winger ie Anthony Gordon or if you didn’t really fancy him then should have taken one of Grealish, Rashford, Sterling or Sancho each of whom have done a reasonably good job for England in the past, on the LEFT.

The “final passed Mainoo by” because he spent the game with his neck arched up to sky as Pickford kept launching balls over his head to the Spanish back line. Effectively, by this tactic, Pickford neutralised England’s two most press resistant players in Stones and Mainoo) and it played a big part in England retaining so little possession and being unable to build from the back. Incidentally, I don’t blame Pickford. He was no doubt playing to Southgate’s instructions.

In all these post tournament / match interviews did ANY journalist directly ask the question to either Kane or Southgate ... 'was Kane a 100% fit during the tournament or during any of the matches?' ... the answer is no they didn't. The journalists and pundits want to make their observations BUT don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by asking them directly ... speculate all you want ... you're all just gossip mongers.

Kane is not the brightest and needs a strong manager to deal with him not a yes man...A manager mskes the decisions and the players follow suit...he wouldn't have played injured or not if a strong manager assessed the situation and made a decision in dropping him

It's not just kane though. ALL of our players looked slow and off the pace. Fatigue perhaps? Are these guys playing too much football these days? Kind of seems like we see this fatigue at every tournament nowadays. Fyi, most players are usually carrying or playing through some kind of injury. Thats the way football is.
