These Giuliani Arpeggios bring back great memories of guitar lessons long ago. The beauty and simplicity of these practice pieces as musical training and as musical compositions in their own right is compelling. They have a charm all their own.

This video and your others are very well done. They will help a lot of people! I think the relationship between m-a when playing pima, pimami, etc...could have been addressed more in the video as well as sequential planting. Managing the m-a relationship through sequential planting and thinking of m-a as one 'compound stroke' is key to playing succinct and even arpeggios. The movements aspects in the video are excellent and you are a great teacher.

This is what guitar teaching should be. I wish I had watched this since the very first day I started learning how to play the guitar. I've been having a lot of trouble with tone production and posture due to personal physical features and I really appreciate that some of my problems can be solved thanks to information provided in your clips. You used the word opposition when talking about the PIMI arpeggios, with the I and M moving in opposition to achieve the appropriate finger position to pluck the string. You could argue there is opposition with the first group of arpeggios you mention, between the thumb and the fingers as a group. For example with the PIM arpeggio, the thumb strikes and then resets when the I&M strike, with the I&M resetting when the thumb strikes. Same with the PMI and PAMI arpeggios, and arguably with tremolo as well.

Thanks Scott for presenting this video. The timing could not have been better!!! I rededicated myself back to playing classical guitar and have been seriously studying everyday for the past week. I wish I would have never stopped playing, but as you know life gets in the way sometimes. I play about 25 of the Giuliani studies a day taking my time and making sure every note is crystal clear. Like you said the Giuliani studies are wonderful!!! And they cover so many different combinations of right hand fingerings. I also have Pumping Nylon. The opposing motion and slur exercises in there are spectacular!!. I noticed your nails are kind of long especially on the thumb. I tried the long nail approach and it felt weird. Like I wasn't getting to the strings fast enough. Scott has a technique for filing the nails down on the left side of the nail which causes you to have least resistance when you're playing. But I do like the long nail approach for the tone quality... it's a bigger sound. Anyway keep up the good work. Keep Inspiring. Playing classical guitar is very challenging but rewarding in the end... But then again it never ends!!! Have a wonderful New Year😎

If you look at the music it is not just a matter of holding down Cmaj and G7/B chords. The note values change and indicate that the left hand should be placing and lifting fingers. Depending on the arpeggio study, the fingers need to be placed and lifted differently. If you are just holding the chord down you are playing the music incorrectly.

seems to me that on the second example you should really practice both ways (with finger relaxation and without finger relaxation) as thoses two kind of practises develop two valid ways to aproach that arpegio pattern.

Disappointed that he didn't play at least some of the piece at the beginning. I generally like to hear the player play before I listen to their lesson, then I can hear whether their technique is good enough for me to be taking advice from them.

Uh, I think I’ll um ah, purchase the book. Uhm… He knows his stuff, but is uh painful to listen to. It’s, uh, like um, he’s in a hurry and is not really listening to uh… what he’s saying. Anyway, I think you get my drift here. Honestly, I do not mean to be mean, but, just wish he’d prepare a little better for the video - very amateurish. Presentation interferes with the great lessons.
