Surely the best voice and greatest lyrics in pop? Bar none...

"Cute cute in a stupid-ass way" That line always gets me. I know he was just translating Brel, but still that does not sound like anything Ive ever heard from the 60's. Love it.

Apparently despite the BBC ban on "Jackie" for the "authentic queers and phony virgins" line, the album Scott 2 topped the UK album sales charts for a couple of weeks in 1968.

Jacques Brel's original lyrics 'Beau, beau, beau et con à la fois' translate to 'Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful and stupid at the same time'. Looking at a translation of the Jacques Brel's original lyrics, it seems Mort Shuman's translation was somewhat loose, perhaps in part to rhyme better. Some French details were reinterpreted that would otherwise be lost on English-speaking audiences. In any case look for Jacques Brel's live 1966 performance, and his dizzying live performance of 'La valse а mille temps' (not the 1961 one).

Scott Walker reminds me of beauty: the look, that voice, his interpretation of songs... Since today is March 22 and he's in heaven for 4 years, I hope he rests in peace and sings for all the ladies up there. So, thank you Scott for bringing beauty to this world. And thank you Guidofski for your efforts in making these wonderful videos for us to enjoy.

Fantastic song!! When it was released it was way ahead of it's time, and treated with a bit of suspicion! Listen to this guy's diction - every word in his songs is so clear. What a singer - absolutely in a class of his own!

Magnificent Scott Walker, stark music figure in the booming end-of-60s TV like orchestras, the decade between Tenco's death and leaden sunrise of the Seventies; fire weapon sounding percussions, his lyric full voice like a yell from the road, like the sun shining dark at noon. R.I.P.

the broadway musical, mor, cabaret, brechtian touches, gigantic orchestrations, the whole of the apparat assembled in the service of a great bitterness........ and thats a very logical reaction to whats on offer. in getting to england he got what walker would not have found in the u.s.--- a deep memory of the war- and what it had cost. he got it.
